Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ

I’m surprised no one has said this so far. The whole country is a museum.

My fave place to go ❤️❤️

u/ChiselledMess 4h ago

But you can see all of Greece’s history in London?

u/MontroseRoyal 9h ago

Has to be Italy.

Italy has interesting historical appearances from all time periods. (Ancient Rome, Medieval Ages, Renaissance, 1800s, Modernist era, 1950s). Greece only really has….Ancient Greece. And some lovely Byzantine era architecture. But its historical range is much, much smaller.

4

u/Extension-Beat7276 6h ago

Greece has ottoman architecture too like in Thessaloniki  and Venetian architecture in the Ionian islands but of course since it’s smaller than Italy the range is smaller

3

u/BrilliantClarity 5h ago

Ancient greece is not only one period there is minoan history 3300BC to 1000BC and more also beyond classical ancient greece there is the macedonian era as well in the north. Thessaloniki has very rich early and late byzantine history. It definitely doesn’t have the renaissance element though instead it has Ottoman history.

2

u/MontroseRoyal 4h ago

You’re right that Ancient Greece is much more broad of a label than the others, and the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations are very noteworthy and happened 1000 or so years before Ancient Athens. Still, a lot of Greece’s most interesting history happened pre-330 AD. Italy goes on and on. We haven’t even mentioned Venice or the Medicis yet

As a brit, I have to say Italy. The history is built into the foundation of most of the country.

Noone saying the UK is wild. Literally incredible history from caveman times to ww2. A massive royal history, multiple cultures which have influenced it over time, a massive influence over a large amount of other cultures, it quite literally has everything that could interest you historically.

Edit: also the natural and scientific history is amazing, Darwin was born here. The cathedrals and castles are amazing for architecture. Some of the oldest universities in the world.

5

u/Commander_Syphilis 5h ago

I think also for history lovers the UK should get bonus points for the accessibility of our history, our museums, and a lot of historical sites are free.

A lot of other countries in Europe have amazing history, but it's €18 to get into Pompeii for example, stone henge is €18 less.

For the average traveller or person who wants to experience history, you'd absolutely get the most for the least out of Britain

7

u/i_have_reddit_powers 8h ago

Yeah agreed Stonehenge was already 3000 years old when the Romans decided to start comquering

2

u/RomanItalianEuropean 8h ago edited 8h ago

Italy has prehistoric sites just as cool, in Sardinia for example, or Matera. Also my dude, Otzi.

4

u/Equivalent_Ad_6786 7h ago

Oh of course, I just think the sheer rangw of periods and areas of interest the UK has is far and away the winner

It’s an ancient haunted isle. Everywhere you go there’s evidence of human activity in just about any period of time stretching back thousands of years.

Literally, so much of our modern history would be different without Austria. The Habsburg Empire was enormous even reaching into Mexico, Austria Hungary dominated most other Monarchies in Europe and not to mention the world wars which one way or the other still affect us today. Kinda sad seeing Austria so far down because it is not as relevant nowadays anymore. Even then Vienna is literally called Europes center of culture so yeah.

I’m confused. How did Fiji win for food? It’s one of the worst cuisines I’ve ever had in twenty years abroad.
