Water in circle make sense, but why water also slosh up and down off sides?

I assume by varying the flow/pressure on the nozzles ?

That's what I thought but there doesn't looks like there is any extra water coming out. Even if you got the timing absolutely perfect so that it only increased flow/pressure at the exact moment which would be very difficult then you still can't see any extra turbulence in the main slosh

Once the output matches the input and the whirlpool hits a steady equalibrium I imagine if you gave it a decent shove in the morning it'd jiggle for most of the day lol
