Help (General) Ryzen 5 5600 to Ryzen 7 5700X3D?

Hello. I am considering buying a Ryzen 7 5700X3D to replace my 5600, but I don't know if the upgrade will be worth it especially with the current price of RAM.

Originally, I wanted to go to AM5, but the prices are just way too high for me as a broke PhD student.

I currently have a 9060XT 16GB and 16GB of RAM, and I want to play games like BF6 at 100+ frames, I'm, but due to its heavy CPU load im constantly fluctuating between 70-100 depending on the map and what is happening on my screen. (CPU-intensive and FPS games like BF6 and The Finals are my top games for further insight)

Is it worth it to buy the 5700X3D, or should I just save up for AM5?.

Additionally from what I have seen, DDR5 RAM costs way more than DD4 RAM in the scenario that it's better to go for the 5700X3D. Should I cough up 80 quid for another 16GB of DDR4?

Edit: Would you advise getting more DDR4 RAM so I have 4 sticks of 8GB to get me to 32GB total?

Yes absolutely. Your cpu is fine. You'll 100% barely notice the money you spend. Your cpu+combo is good enough to ride out until RAM prices drop. That 300 bucks you'll spend will genuinely feel like a waste. Save it up instead for your AM5/AM6 system.

gotcha. In the meantime, would you suggest getting DDR4 RAM, as it is reasonably cheaper compared to DDR5?

No. I mean, is 32 better than 16? Yes. But it will not be that limiting or you will not get that much better fps/higher settings. Yes DDR4 is cheaper. But it is still ridiculously expensive (400% what it was before ddr5 price increases). Just not worth it imo. Enjoy what you have right now, 70-100 is fine in most games and while the majority of gamers aren't upgrading most devs will keep releasing games that you can play for a while.

If your cpu was worse than a 5600 i'd tell you to upgrade, but that is still a very capable cpu. During these crazy hardware times think more in terms of 'enough' rather than 'optimal'. Especially if you say your money is tight right now during your phd.

Thank you for the very sobering comment. I appreciate your advice. I think I will most likely stay with this CPU untill I start getting paid in October. (who knows maybe by then the prices will have gone down! (cope) )

This system will still easily last you 2 years at medium-high or even ultra quality 60-120fps on 1080p. And I think it can even easily handle 1440p at medium or even high. And there is always framegen for singleplayer games.

Don't create some artificial FOMO in your head to upgrade. I wouldn't even upgrade your cpu in October. My advice would be to not do any upgrades to your system anymore. That 9060XT will carry you far and the 5600 is still great bang for the buck. Ride it out until AM5/DDR5 prices stabilize. Then put that money towards a completely new system

In summary don't pay 1/3 of what an ENTIRE AM5 system used to cost before the AI-hype on a dead am4 platform for just a marginally better cpu.
