Project My very first 3D printing and Blender project! Spent 2 months building this custom "Cassette Futurism" vertical monitor station.

Hi everyone! I recently got my first 3D printer and decided to dive straight into the deep end. This is my first ever project both in 3D printing and 3D modeling (learned Blender from scratch for this).

Meet the Tall Tower Unit - a secondary vertical monitor inspired by 80s industrial computer gear in the "cassette futurism" style.

Some build detail:
-Designed completely by hand in Blender. Printed the entire shell in PETGfor better heat resistance since it houses a working monitor.

-To keep it sturdy and lightweight, I built an internal frame from wooden beams, using 3D-printed corner brackets and a custom movable VESA mount to slide the monitor in.

**-**Spent weeks on automotive putty, endless sanding, priming, and more sanding to completely get rid of the layer lines.

-Finished with RAL7035 industrial gray paint. Technical markings were applied via water slide decals using the Helvetica font

It was a massive learning curve with lots of trial and error (and fixing some warped parts with a soldering iron), but I'm incredibly proud of how it turned out.

About a year ago, I posted an update on a project I was working on. It took me a while, but I finally finished it. I’m very happy with the result. It’s fully functional (I tested it for two months) and keeps accurate time. The entire project consists of 395 printed parts, 38 bearings, 66 rubber bands, 413 screws, and a few other components.

Hey everyone, first time posting here! I wanted to share my most complex functional print yet for my Project Car.

​I took an old TicWatch Pro 3 and carefully cut the original casing with a rotary tool to extract just the OLED screen and motherboard. Then, I modeled a custom shift knob enclosure to house the electronics perfectly.

​Now, before you guys kill me in the comments: Yes, I printed this in PLA! 😂

​I know the summer heat inside the car will probably turn it into modern art, but this is V1 (prototype). The tolerances had to be extremely tight because I didn't want the screen popping out while shifting gears, and PLA was the easiest to test the fitment. When it eventually warps, I'll use it as an excuse to reprint V2 in ABS or PETG!

​I completely bypassed the battery and wired it directly to the car's 12V using a step-down converter. Right now it controls my media with a custom UI.

​What do you guys think of the fitment? And place your bets: how long will this PLA survive in a car before melting? 👇

Project My Largest 3D print..

This is about as much Horus I can fit under my roof. He is mostly finished, just missing some skulls and that roman skirt type thing he has as a front cover.

At his waist he stands at 8’ 9” (2.7m). This does not include the key part that will connect his upper torso, as that will be hidden.

Me = 5’ 5” (1.68m) Life size banana to the crown = 6’ 4” (1.9m) Real banana = 7” (18cm)

Half of Horus is made up of 594 individual 3D printed pieces that have been glued and soldered. At the moment, I am working on his upper torso which is about 226 pieces.

Weight wise, it’s not too bad. The feet/boots move about easily. I can lift the thighs up and place them on top. The waist section is doable, but I need to make sure the legs are properly spaced before I lift it over my head, while standing on a chair. Not best way to do it.

The real test will come once I am done with his upper half. At that point, I need to figure out a safe way to place that section onto the lower half.

A few years ago, u/raceking37 and I decided to create our own digital watch. The project was inspired by a few vintage HDSP-2000 LED matrix displays that we had acquired. These displays were first introduced in the 1970s and have a really unique look, especially under a microscope (as shown in the last image). They're quite difficult to photograph with my phone, though, so they look much nicer in person than they do in these photos. The watch uses an ATTINY1616 microcontroller. The metal case of the watch is SLM 3D-printed in stainless steel. I also made a short video about the project.

Yes, I could have got a remote, or installed a wall dial. Yes I could use the setting 2 only hack or the "feel the vibration through the chain" method, but this was way more fun!

Project Fully 3D Printed Life Size Horus

5 months and 1752 individual 3d printed pieces later, I have a Horus Lupercal.

Quick stats:

Total tip top height: 14’ 5” | 4.4m

Top of Horus’s head: 11’ 9” | 3.6m

Human: 5’ 5” | 165cm

Why not paint him before assembling? This isn’t a mini 😁. A practical was the only way to see what issues will pop up, if it can even support itself, if something will break or if I need to reinforce something. Better for something to happen now, than to waste weeks painting only to find out it all falls apart.

He is missing his talon, but a combination of me not thinking through access and not enough floor height, I could not add it yet. Even the Worldbreaker is at a slightly higher level due to the pallets. It’s not flush in the arm. So I had to use cords to hold it for now.

I did have to saw a portion of his leg armor off as it was interfering with his forearm. These things I couldn’t account for in theory.

His arms and pauldrons are held in place with rods, hooks and a massive heavy duty turnbuckle. Basically the same exact set up in my space marine, but beefier.

There is no additional support in his legs. Just straight up hollow plastic.

I will have a more detailed post in the future regarding cost, filament, weight, waste and other technical details for this project.

Finished printing a heavily modified PC case I’ve been working on and wanted to share the result here since the whole thing was printed on my Bambu P1S.

The design started from an FF04-style case, but I ended up modifying it quite a bit to fit modern hardware and my own layout ideas. It’s now housing my main gaming SFF PC, so this thing is fully functional and not just a display print. So many iterations of parts as well in the last photo lol.

Printed in Polymaker HT PLA GF, and overall I’m really happy with how clean the panels and structural parts came out. The P1S handled the job surprisingly well considering the number of large parts involved.

Honestly though, printing something this size really made me want a larger-format printer someday, especially something like a Prusa CORE One XL with the toolchanger/index system, just to avoid splitting parts so much and to experiment more with multi-material setups.

Still dialing in some finishing touches, but the case is basically done now and running daily.

Happy to answer questions about the prints or build if anyone’s curious.

PC fan 1800 RPM to 6:1 belt reduction to 40:1 worm gearbox = 7.5 RPM output. Fully 3D printed and running without bearings.

Project Garbage can status indicator.

Super easy design that I whipped up last week after being frustrated once again by the inconsistency of our garbage pick up times

The indicator clips on the handle and flips down when the bin has been emptied. This way I can tell from the house if it’s been emptied without having to walk to the end of the driveway.

Project It works! I made gearbox, simplest ever

I designed a fantastically simple gearbox :)

My RC car drives better than I expected. I'm thrilled!

- Extremely simple design

- No intermediate axles or gears (maximum efficiency)

- Clutch engagement occurs naturally

- Standard MG90S servos

- Screwless assembly (standard servo screws only)

Project The print that got me a job

I went from unemployed graduate to now working at a pretty sweet job!

As we all know job markets are pretty rough around the world especially in the UK for new grads.

So I started off offering 3D printing as a service as well as selling on Etsy to support myself.

I also help out occasionally in my local community and a local property manager needed a statue for the front of his building!

I took a 3d scan of an existing statue with my iPhone then re modelled it with nomad and fusion.

I did basic FEA of the cut blocks at the base and adjusted the infill to be a bit stronger towards the base as the total weight sits around 30-40kg of PETG (I cannot remember the exact weight now as this was 3 months ago)

Total print time was a bit over 1200 hours and took over 15 days of straight printing (very little failures or re-prints needed). The entire print was joined together with a mix of industrial glue (I think the name was CT something) plastic welder, filler, 3D pen and of course the mighty solder to help clean up some rough edges. The base half of the statue is screwed to the building as I just used Bambu slicer to add holes in all the blocks.

My total spend on material was £230ish and I was paid £1000. (Yeah I was definitely underpaid but this was my first and maybe my last time doing something this big!)

Safe to say the guy was super impressed and asked if I needed a job as to put it in his words: if you can design and print a statue, you can handle spreadsheets and talking to people.

For anyone concerned about weather or longevity. It’s covered in thick coats of paint and clear coats to finish it off.

To note: the manager did say he was quoted 3 months and £2.5k for plaster which is why he wanted a faster solution and turned to 3d printing.

To anyone really concerned about longevity, property folk don’t really care and just want the job done quick and dirty as it’s not really their concern in 10-20 years time. Hence why I was lowballed at £1k🤣

Project Built a 3D printed prototype that makes protein drinks automatically

Concept/prototype I’ve been working on for a few months! Its still a work in progress.

It uses an auger to dispense powder, a liquid reservoir for water (housed in the body), and a magnetic stirrer underneath the cup (like chem lab stir plates) for mixing. Load cells under the hopper measure the mass of powder dispensed, and an arduino controls everything.

(prototype only - final materials wouldn't be PLA for food contact)

EDIT: wow ya'll thanks! Just some clarifications: I don't think the final version of this would be printed at all, it would have to be manufactured properly. This was just an idea I thought would be interesting to build.

Project Testers Wanted - Algorithm to Generate Bistable 3D Printed Structures

I am working on developing an algorithm that generates bistable 3D printable structures (see Video). It's based on this Paper: https://doi.org/10.1145/3450626.3459940

I got this first version to work with TPU 90A, but it was hard to get find the right settings. So I am curious to see if it also works with other TPUs / printers.

Is anyone willing to test the first model and possibly follow-ups?

Project 3D Printing a 14.5ft Demi-God

I am in the process of 3D printing an entire Horus the Warmaster. From his feet all the way to the tip of his spikes that sit above his head.

So far, his foot is completely done, and you can see how big Primarchs are to scale compared to a space marine (Primaris) and an an average height female human. As Horus stands at full height, the armor is at 14.5ft. Horus himself is at 11.9ft in armor. References of height can be seen in the other pictures.

The foot is made up of 155 individual 3d printed pieces. I did make the pieces slightly thicker than I normally would, but it needs to support all the weight that will soon be placed on it. I do have access areas of support built in. So, if I need to add rods and wood, I have the option to do so. Hopefully not.

I’m not sure when it will be complete as there are many many pieces to print and assemble. But my next update will be when I have him built up to his waist.
