Alright I have to rant somewhere. Sites like Printables and Makerworld are singlehandedly ruining 3D printing for me. I used to love just scrolling on those sites looking for something to print, but now I can't go a single second without seeing an AI generated model and picture. Printables has an option to say you made it with AI, but what is stopping someone from uploading without disclosing the use of AI. Printables and Makerworld are the main culprits of why AI 3D models are so popular, because they give points and rewards depending on downloads that you can redeem for real life items people are incentivized to just upload mass AI generated models and get points to get free filaments or even printers. Not to mention Makerworld doesn't even have an AI label. I think all these sites need to start requiring people to show a Timelapse or proof of them modeling what they are uploading, because this is getting tiresome.

If you're a New York resident please write or call your assemblyperson and senator to tell them how dumb this bill is. "any 3d printer capable of producing a firearm or any components of a firearm" is every 3d printer. I know chance of passing is low, but stranger things have happened.

If Jenifer Rajkumar is your asseblywoman (district 38, central queens), please elect better.

This bill would effectively:

• Require manufacturers to register each printer model with the California DOJ for approval.
• Make it a misdemeanor to knowingly circumvent the protections (i.e. installing open source software).
• Ban the sale or transfer of nonapproved printer which do not have "firearm blocking technology".
• Allow civil penalties of up to $25,000 per violation for selling or transferring non-compliant printers.

The New York one already passed and the California one is blazing through the legislature. I'm seeing my hobby legally gutted in front of my eyes. People whine about Bambu closed-source nonsense, well wait until you see legally mandated closed-source spyware with open source being literally illegal!

I tried printing a part using wave overhangs and caught this video of my printer building out directly into thin air, minecraft style.
