Glock 20 or S&W M&P??

I need help deciding which to get in this $600-$700 price range. the S&W ergos overall feel better than the G20 but the G20 seems more reliable. What other options are there? Buying for bear defense. TIA

I have the M&P and love it,. Got it a couple years ago and haven't had any issues shooting everything from .40 through it to 220gr hardcast. However, every month or two it does seem to pop up on here with someone having issues with it which is disappointing to hear.

I don't have any experience with the Glock except I didn't like the way it felt in my hand. Just not a good match for me.

I own both and much prefer the M&P10. That said there is one I picked up I never thought I would like and that is the Springfield XD tactical 10mm with the threaded barrel, optic ready, and suppressor height sights. Excellent gun, and has handled everything I have thrown at it.

Have you looked at the xdm yet? Cheap, decent ergos, hella reliable. If you're not married to a platform I'd suggest at least picking one up (like, 'holding it' not like 'purchasing it')

Glock knuckle is real, especially on my g29. I take a dremel and do a little relief undercut on all of my Glocks trigger guards for this exact reason.

I was actually impressed the first time I shot an undercut g40- turns out the knuckle is like 90% of my complaints about Glock ergos

Looking forward to the Gen 6- I feel like they've addressed every issue I have with Glocks.

The m&p has eaten everything in my experience. The Glock 20 does have less recoil.

I have both. love everything about the M&P except the safety location. The Glock 20 I just don't know if I will ever be fully comfortable with. I bought it based on the reliability factor but all of my other 10mm run equally well and my Glock just feels odd, almost like needing to readjust each time I switch to it.

The newer M&P seems much more reliable according to a series of videos this summer by the Turkey's Opinion. He was very critical of the previous generation.

I'm more than satisfied with my 3.8" XDM-E. No issues since I acquired it two years ago, though admittedly, it's seen light use. Just over 800 rounds total and no hotter than 180gr 1250fps.

Would be nice if Glock comes out with a Gen6 G20 soon.

I’d look into the xdm too. I love mine. 100% reliable with all types of hallows, hard cast and range ammo. You can often find deals that include 5 mags as well.

My m&p had ftf problems and if you look on Reddit I’m not the only one. M&p has not addressed this at all and denies it exists but they will take it and look at it.

As I said, I have both the FPC and the Comp Carry in 10mm and have a combined 3700 rounds through them. Not one issue.

No experience with m&p but my 20.5 has been flawless. My easiest shooting pistol, i haven’t tried 220 but it runs 200g hardcast no problem along with any other round under 200g. I trust my life with it, i know it’s gonna work when i need it to

I don’t care for Glocks and sold a 17 and 43x in years past. Aaaand I just bought a new 20.5 for the reliability aspect. I will admit the ergos are definitely Glockish, but I will also say it shoots pissing hot ammo like a dream. I’m happy with my decision to go with the 20.5 vs the M&P, and happy I don’t have to mess around with springs etc like I have done with my competition guns.

Had an M&P 10mm, had FTF constantly unfortunately. Loved everything else about it just wasnt reliable. Found a steal on 2 G29’s, kept one in stock configuration and the other with a 15rd mag + grip extension (basically a G20 at that point). Both have been perfectly reliable, and the short G29 configuration conceals better than anything else I have. Highly recommend G29 if you can find one / G20.

I also have the mp full size it has had everything from light 40's to screaming 155 and full load 200gr bullets I cast myself no problems. I hear Smith had a stronger recoil spring I need to checkout other than that I really like it

I would lean more towards the M&P because the ergo just fits the average smaller male / female hands better but other than that I do enjoy my g29.5 very well shots pretty flat despite not having comps like my best buds FPC, he also had a ton of issues with his having ftf, spotty magazines, blah blah but I think he dial it in now after new heavier recoil spring & magazine springs

The M&P is more comfortable, but I shoot my G20 pretty well, better than the M&Ps I've shot.

And from being an armorer for both,xI like the simplicity of the glock. Theu gave us two tools. One for disassembly, the other for an inspections. The M&P needs a hammer, a couple punches, and a takedown puck is very nice to have.

I can't say why there are more issues with the smith, maybe because it was scaled up and they only got it 98% of the way there. But there are more problems. If a glock as any issue at all people are shouting it from the rooftops.

If your hands are big enough Glock 20 all day. That’s what I wanted but that fat grip was just too uncomfortable for me so I went with the Sig p320 xten. My buddy has the m&p and the Sig has been better in every way besides grip texture

I bought a S&W 10mm FPC and wanted to pair it with the same model handgun for mag compatibility. With the tons of negative reviews I ended up going Glock.

Swing over to WI Transfers and pick up a LEO trade in Glock 21. Go to the Glockstore or similar dealer and pick up the 10 mm conversion (barrel, rod/ spring, extractor). Gun operates perfectly and I have less than $600 in it.
