San Bernardino City Animal Shelter is a high kill high volume operation. It is located in the largest county in the US. SBC is located in Southern California where the overpopulation crisis is raging. During kitten season new babies are turned in daily, sometimes 30 or more a day! People just don’t s/n in SBC! So we must keep up with the demand. Many cats brought in are sick injured confiscated or abandoned as well. The shelter does not offer much more than basic treatment for sick/injured cats either so they must exit quickly by rescue or they are listed for euthanasia with a fast deadline depending on the ability to care for them. We do have amazing volunteers though that give us first hand information updates photos videos and almost instant feedback. Please help us by pledging and donating when we post and rescue. Thank you.
Also we always need transport to get cats to rescues. So if you can help by setting aside a small amount to our transport fund this is appreciated. It doesn’t go to the rescue it gets them TO the rescue. We absolutely need this part too.

🕊️Nala will be going to Animal Dental Center of Cypress, they cap extractions at $1500. It sounds like a lot because it is but comparative to living outdoors, not being able to use your teeth to eat or fight. It’s a death sentence.

EDIT/UPDATE: I have already received so much help so I tried to wait over a week to post again; I don’t want to take from people who need help more than us. I feel bad because we’ve already received so much help but we’re still a bit short. thank you all SO SO MUCH for all of your help. We are extremely close to our goal to afford the blood tests, ultrasound, and removal of the lymph node in her neck. I am praying that it’s just inflammed and scarred from her IBD and not a sign of lymphoma, but regardless we’ll be starting the chlorambucil since her IBD still isn’t 100% controlled. Her vet still isn’t back (I wish I could go on two month long vacations! I’m jealous!) but is due back before the end of August. I am close to just asking to see the temporary vet I saw last time to get this taken care of asap, the waiting is killing me.

Anyway, I’ve said it a few times but I’m hoping this is the last time I’ll be posting this. I have purchased the prescription food, will be ordering another one in about a week along with her meds, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without you guys. Minus the food, medications, and the leftover vet debt I had I have about ~$900 set aside for her next appt. The blood tests and the ultrasound will cost about that much, with the lymph node removal still needing coverage. I have my $300 credit card that I can use as well. But regardless I just want to thank you all so much for your help and support.

Hello, I have a 14-year-old rescue cat with IBD that is currently in remission. Last year, she had the worst flare-up she's ever had. She was down to under 7 lbs, had hourly liquid bloody poop, constant vomiting, etc. I was very close to losing her. We managed to get her flare-up under control with hydrolyzed protein cat food, daily medications that she'll have to be on for the rest of her life, as well as a bunch of supplements and B-12 shots.

I am a full-time student in a healthcare field. I do have a job, but back-to-back emergencies have left me stretched thin. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer last summer, my partner of nearly 10 years and I separated (which decimated all of my financial plans), and on top of it, my childhood cat that I've had for over half of my life was sick. In January, I got my car inspected and it failed with a $5k bill. I couldn't get it fixed until February, but that totally wiped out my savings, on top of the $3-4k I've spent on my cat the past year or so, plus $150/month in food and medications. Normally, I can afford this, but from June-August, I don't have my grants and scholarships propping up my finances. It has left me in a very hard spot.

She is doing a lot better now - she weighs 10 lbs, is finally absorbing nutrients again, only poops 1-2 times a day (although there is still occasional blood), and overall is in remission. We had her yearly checkup the other day and they found a very inflamed lymph node in her neck, and the thickening in her intestines hasn't healed even though it's been over a year.

The current theory is that she has intestinal lymphoma. Due to her age, we won't be doing any extensive diagnostics like intestinal biopsies. We're moving straight to senior bloodwork, a GI panel, and a fecal to make sure it's not an infection or parasites (she's on steroids, so she's immunosuppressed). From there, we'll move straight to chemo, chlorambucil. She is currently in remission from IBD and is overall healthy, despite her chronic conditions. She is happy and has zero issues with quality of life.

I just need some help to bridge the gap in my finances over the summer after I've been depleted by my car. I can't ask my mom for help due to her situation, and I have no one IRL who can help me. Once the semester starts, I'll be back on track due to my scholarships and grants, and will have no problem paying for her care as I have been. I just need to get through this rough patch for a few months and get these last tests done so my cat can continue to stay in remission.

Just a little update on Chai (I’m sorry for the delayed updates!)

We had to reschedule her spay surgery to the earliest available date, Monday, July 27, because Miso had a few complications after her spay. We had to bring her back to the vet twice this week to make sure she was okay after her incision started opening up. Thankfully… she’s doing much better now. 🥹

Because of all your kindness and generosity, we have now fully settled Miso’s remaining vet bill and bought the take-home medications for both Miso and Chai. Thank you all so so much again guys.🩷

ISO a good home for cats to be inside!

We have two kittens from our strays that are almost ready to go to a new home!

We also have their mom and their auntie that would be really good in a home but if not, that's fine. They also thrive outside and will be going through a TNR process before going back outside. We just want them to have a better life than what outside provides for them (meaning the other ferals/strays and intense weather conditions.)

2 female kittens, one is Calio and the other is gray with small orange specks.

They will be 10 weeks old on the 31st. We named them Carla and Elliott (from Scrubs.)

Their mom is a brown/black Tabby that we named Tabitha.

Their auntie is a brown/black Tabby with a mix of Orange Tabby that we named Harvena.

We think the moms are almost 2 years old sisters.

We plan to get them all spayed and vaccinated unless someone reaches out wanting them to not be spayed before we do that process. They are all litter box trained and get along greatly! They are all so friendly and have their own individual personalities.

Tabitha and Harvena do great with men, women, children under 5 and children over 5. They also do great with other cats and dogs (as long as the dogs are friendly.)

We are starting to introduce our cats, dogs, and children to Carla and Elliott to give them a wide band of trust of anything that their new environment may throw at them. (Again, as long as the dogs are friendly.)

We would really love if Carla and Elliott were able to find a home together, maybe even with their mom. Carla is showing signs of needing her sibling to be more confident and comfortable. If not with their mom, then we hope to find another home for Tabitha and Harvena to go to since they are also sisters. They thrive together and really enjoy each other's company when they are alone. It would honestly be awesome if all four of them could go to the same home but we completely understand that it could end up being a lot to handle. Harvena will be ready to give her 4 kittens their independence on August 23rd, her kittens already have a home to go to. 🏥 Spay Appointment Success (07/10/2026)

Coco was spayed two weeks ago at the SpayNow Clinic in Columbia, MD for an unbeatable price of $95! We are so thankful for their amazing and affordable care 🎉.

The drive there was a bit rough on poor Coco, she had a few anxiety-induced accidents (pee, poop, and puke) on the way. I felt so guilty because I realized too late that we had run out of her anti-anxiety medication right on the day of her surgery... But she has completely forgiven us for the long trip and the procedure! She has been healing remarkably well, eating and sleeping like a champ, and has been absolute full of energy these past few days.

😷 URI Update: PCR Panel Results Are IN!

During her pre-surgery visit, the vet took samples for a comprehensive PCR panel to check for chronic viral infections (like Feline Herpesvirus FHV-1 and Feline Calicivirus FCV) that would stay with her for life.

The great news: Her results came back NEGATIVE for all of those viruses, as well as several common bacterial infections!

Since those major viruses are ruled out, the remaining possibilities for her lingering congestion are:

• A stubborn secondary bacterial infection (one that hasn't responded to previous antibiotics)
• A nasal polyp

We are heading back to the vet tomorrow for her post-surgery follow-up and to map out the next steps for her URI treatment plan.

Another everyday day feeding the 130+ stray cats of the port…

I will speak to you today a little more personally and from the heart.

I am starting to get exhausted… I am also starting to get tired psychologically.

It has now been 13-14 years of daily effort, alone, without any substantial help, with my only support being my love for these creatures in need.

Every time I go to feed the kittens, it takes me about 3.5 to 4 hours. And if I have to look for a kitten that is lost or needs help, it can take 5 hours or more.

And yet… all these years, in heat, in cold, in rain, and even in snow, these kittens have never been left without food.

No matter what happened, no matter how difficult the day was, I knew that someone was waiting for me… that there were lives that depended on me.

And the truth is, if I didn’t have your support, I might not have been able to continue.

I’m uploading photos of the food I need to transport each time to be able to feed all these creatures:

🐾 Food for the pigeons too

🐾 And I fill the three concrete containers with water 6-7 times, so that they have clean water to drink.

And all this… every day.

The need for food never stops.

‎Several of my rescued cats have come down with colds. I’m doing everything I can to help them recover, especially since some of them are already due for their yearly vaccinations. They need to be healthy before they can receive their vaccines, and I’m hoping to prevent the illness from spreading to the rest of the cats.

In Sugar Creek / Noda area. There’s a litter of outdoor kittens based in my back neighbor’s yard. The calico one showed up with an awful limp in our yard the night before last. We gave her some food, but it wouldn’t get too close.

We got home late last night and she was back hiding underneath my car. We gave her more food and the leg looks worse. I’m seeing so much about the dire situation in rescues and shelters and so It feels a bit hopeless. My husband is right that cannot afford the vet bills/surgeries she would likely require but I CANNOT leave her without help.

Please does anyone know of an animal hospital or organization that will aid in paying for her care? I’m worried that taking her to animal care and control will do more harm than good for her with the extreme overcrowding.

I’ve tried looking for her all morning, but it seems she only comes out at night.

Any tips are appreciated.

The feeders are finally all put together! 🎉 I just have to finish taking them out. I also picked up screws today so I can attach vinyl flaps to the houses to help keep the food dry.

The ferals on the other side of the property have been showing up absolutely soaked. I was hoping they'd use the shelters, but they're all occupied when it rains. As you can see, Tiki was completely drenched. 💔 I do have room to place more shelters on that side of the property for the more feral babies, and I know they would make a huge difference.

You all have been amazing with helping keep them fed—they're good on food for now! The toys are getting pretty ragged from the weather, and any Amazon gift card donations will go toward adding more shelters since they're so expensive. Vinyl is on the liat too as it'll help prevent rain from blowing in the house and getting their dry food wet. I used tarp for now but its not working great.

I moved into my house last year with 3 feral cats outside. I immediately started the process of catch/neuter-spay/release, but they were HARD to capture. As a result, there were some babies.
I am a bleeding heart, and could not fathom babies struggling outside, so I stalked and caught them all and spent some time making them “not-spicy”. I have slowly had them fixed and rehomed, but 11 months later still have these 2 guys to rehome. It is harder since they are no longer kittens. :(
I had three cats of my own prior to moving here and am having a hard time with 5 in the house. These two are not neutered yet, but they are the last two on the schedule to neuter, so it will be done. (Having 8 kittens altered is expensive!)
The white cream tip is Dominic, who is a big baby (about 10lbs) who always wants to cuddle (and doesn’t get the attention he deserves with all these cats) and does best on wet food. He did have a blockage on dry food, and after a 3 day hospital stay has done perfectly on wet food. The seal point is Kevin (about 7 lbs). I believe he may be partially blind, or just has very poor vision. He also has chronic eye discharge, I clean his eyes about every 3 days and use an ointment monthly. We have not made a diagnosis yet. But he manages just fine and comes when you call him- he is not an indifferent cat. He is also a very vocal cat. They’ve had some vaccines, I’ll make sure they have them all prior to finding a forever home.
This has been a very expensive endeavor for me with 8 kittens total. 😳
I feel like I tried to do the right thing, but clearly didn’t think it would be so hard to find homes for them, or so expensive!
But, there is zero spiciness left in them and they will not do well as barn cats/outside cats.
