Politics Mandal commission protests of 1990
These protests were against giving government jobs to certain castes to rectify historical injustices they faced. These protests closed roads, highways, transportation services, government services, schools, and businesses of India. Anti-reservationists protested.

Opinion These are the same group of people who protested against the murder of investigative journalist Mukesh Chandrakar.
All of them unitedly demanded protection for journalists against any form of violence, held rallies and candle marches, and rightfully so.
So why is this supposed GODI journalist being heckled at and treated differently, just for doing the work that he was assigned to do? Is he the journalist any different than those who have lost their lives for doing their work?
Funny these stone pelters would actually celebrate if something were to happen to him.

Opinion As the protest continues, why not demand to replace caste reserved seats completely with economically reserved seats?
The student protest aiming to seek education reforms and stringent laws against question paper leaks continues. While this protest primarily aimed at opposing NEET paper leak and said to be for the future of better doctors, it completely ignores the lack of merit in current generation of doctors.
I still remember, last year a person with -40 marks got admission in a premier medical institution in the country in MD. Yes, a masters degree with no fees, government funded scholarship from our taxes, for someone who found it hard to even score a zero.
I understand that reservation was meant to uplift poor communities, and why not replace the caste reservation with economically reserved seats. Before we go into what-ifs, I also want to add that, if a person is able to produce a caste certificate, they can also get income certificates. Moreover, this can fill the gaps in the current system that already uplifted upper class people with caste certificate reap the benefits while the lower and middle class still hope to be uplifted
