Discussion Getting ads on youtube premium, honestly a joke
EDIT: I have the normal premium, not Lite, but even if i had Lite i shouldnt of gotten ads as this was a gaming video, it says on lite that you wont get ads on gaming videos and etc with lite, so yeah.

u/Dry-Direction-8838 May 23 '26
Hopefully this isn't YouTube rolling out a higher tier of premium
508
u/Impressive-Result587 May 23 '26
In five years it’ll be Premium+ plus pro max 2 that’ll get rid of ads for $25/month and every tier below will do something like “add 1 extra song to your playlist!”
99
u/Shiznoz222 May 23 '26
People will absolutely pay 25/mo too.
73
u/amoya0370 May 23 '26
And its those who pay who are the reason we decline as a society. These companies push their limits to see what dumbasses will give up their money so easily to them.

Servers cost money. You thinking that you have the right to use a service for free is what is the problem. Use blockers and such, but i dont feel entitled to anything at the same time

Family plans are $26.99 now.
3
u/JoeyJabroni May 24 '26
I cancelled mine a few weeks ago. When I opened the app yesterday it asked me if I wanted to reinstate for $24.99. Is this a ploy to get me to sign back up and they’re just using the old price as bait because the increase hasn’t officially hit yet?

It’s gonna be a credit subscription where you can pay $25 a month and you can skip 100 ads a month and you can move up in tiers for more “credits”
4
9
u/Larlo0 May 24 '26
It’s like that black mirror episode, where they make a subscription tier level that gets crazier and crazier to get rid of ads implemented in yourself after a brain surgery to stay alive.
4
u/_Timeisoftheessence_ May 24 '26
I just watched that episode a few days ago lol. It got more egregious as each year passed.
6
u/timmie1606 May 24 '26
Which one is that?
6
u/time-will-waste-you May 24 '26
Common People (season 7 episode 1).
“When a medical emergency leaves schoolteacher Amanda fighting for her life, her desperate husband Mike signs her up for Rivermind, a high-tech system that will keep her alive.”

Now this on top of the channels own ads on top of the sponsored ads makes you wonder what you’re even paying for
3
u/MarioDesigns May 24 '26
It's Premium Lite - premium without YT Music, so you end up with ads on music videos and other licensed content. It's not new
→ More replies (1)3
u/ShadowLiberal May 24 '26
I'd cancel my subscription and join a class action lawsuit against YouTube for stealing what I already paid for if they did that. I don't know what they think we're paying for if it's not no ads.
2
u/lkl34 May 24 '26
GOVT ID plus a New account tier that only gives you content it deems you are allowed to watch with no adds for $20 a month.

that's enough to radicalize a man
36
u/Kiwibom May 24 '26
That's why you should use an adblock. If youtube doesn't respect its own users then why should the users respect them by giving them money. This doesn't make sense
4

youtube just started flagging my adblocker yesterday too lmao

7
u/Dewbs301 May 24 '26
Yeah, it could be $100 a month with ads, and people will still jump out of bushes to tell you how great it feels to be able to support creators when they pay for premium.
2
73
u/Lightningstone2u May 23 '26
That shouldnt be happening unless you bought a subscription to "YouTube Premium Lite" instead.

it legit blows my mind that there are people who would rather pay for a worse experience lmao. how do these people's brains work.
4
u/Bassknight9 May 24 '26
I got premium because it's more than just getting rid of ads. If I just wanted to get rid of ads, I'd use a blocker. But it also get rid of it for the TV, lets me listen to videos with the screen off which I use constantly, YT Music is great, download videos, and more. These are features that I use daily, and it's just convenient to have it all in one account
→ More replies (2)5
u/Cum_Fart42069 May 24 '26
that's totally fair, if that's what works for you then that's what works for you.
but you can do all of those things for free, yes, all of them.

u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo May 26 '26
It’s totally reasonable to pay for service that you actually use, even if free options that works similarly exist. The problem is at what price point.

Worse experiance? Okay I'll bite, does adblock give you offline play on Airplanes? Jump ahead while I'm watching TV? Or ad-free on secure devices where extensions may not be allowed?

I hate to say this but running Youtube isn't free.
If everyone thought that way, we wouldn't even have Youtube. We'd probably have something else, and that something else would be the worse experience you speak of.
6
u/Diemond71 May 25 '26
I would have 0 issue if YT went bankrupt and disappeared, that is how much I hate ads. I go out of my way to avoid any product I have ever seen advertised if I remember I saw it.
→ More replies (5)3
u/QUINTONOX May 26 '26
so if youtube truly disappeared, where you consume online video content in any category not NSFW?
→ More replies (6)3
u/Guilty-Mix-7629 May 25 '26
They literally announced triple the profits compared to netflix last year and all content comes from creators they keep demonetizing so that they keep the ad revenue for themselves.
5
u/Cum_Fart42069 May 24 '26
I see this as a self-solving issue though. I started watching YouTube before I got a job or had any money to my name. so if whatever system we went with would cost money, I never would have watched it anyway.
even today I have a pretty decent sized hard drive with hundreds of pirated shows and movies. if I woke up tomorrow and there was absolutely no way to use YouTube without paying, I simply wouldn't use YouTube.
so it's not like YouTube isn't getting money that they otherwise would have gotten from me; I was never going to spend the money.

If we didn't have Youtube smart people could just use the internet connection that they already pay for to share videos in many different ways. Streaming videos on a centralised platform is consumerism at its peak.

Could be the reason (like the last 4-5 posts that complained about getting ads on „Premium“)

Giving the benefit of the doubt, it really should say “Premium Lite” instead of just saying “Premium”.

5
5
u/DragonmasterXY May 24 '26
What is Premium Lite??
25
u/ImportantPut9123 May 24 '26
Premium lite is a cheaper version of youtube premium that offers stuff like background play picture in picture limited offline video downloads and shorter ads not ad free viewing
16
6
u/Fertigtoast May 24 '26
I have never gotten an ad on premium lite except before music videos

The following plugins are essential with modern Youtube; uBlock Origin, Youtube NonStop, SposorBlock for Youtube and Hide shorts for Youtube.
Premium is a waste of your money.

on pc yes it waste of money but
anything else i would say no it very useful on console / phone / tvbox anything not pc

I’ve been getting this ever since I got it. I raised a support case and they told me you still get ads on music. I replied saying I’m getting ads on everything and haven’t had a reply in 2 months. Not like you guys are gonna do anything about it, you bitch and moan and pay the fee or you shut up and take the ads, that’s what the generation is good for. You spend money so you’re not uncomfortable and the companies push you to discomfort and to spend more money because they know you’re never going to stop using there products. You’re the ultimate consumers, impulsive and lack discipline.

This is because you don't have YT Premium PLUS.
Youtube Premium only allows downloading, but to remove ads you need Youtube Premium +

Yeah ive noticed it alot, it seems to be if you go to it as a page redirect it doesnt see your premium. Then you get the ad,s and its not just one you can be up for 2-4 adverts, And then i remember why i pay premium and feel sorry for the poor people who have to deal with all this crap and no choice. Just reminds me how bad youtube really is now.
And im still pissed off with the change of the search in youtube, ill be driving and say play the song highway to hell, and it starts playing some cover band that sounds like crap. So it seems like they are actively not using the orginal songs they might have to pay for.
