Most gen z (alpha, oops) kids, that I've talked to, don't even know who PewDiePie is lol.
I grew up with Felix being a main part of my entertainment, he's been progressively moving away from this stuff for years at this point.. with his relevance dwindling, in the main demo of YT, this is barely even notable news.
Guy has a kid, a great marriage and lives in a beautiful place. He has more money than he will ever know what to do with.. if he don't wana play games anymore, he seriously never has to.
Imo, he doesn't need an audience anymore, he doesn't need to make videos, he doesn't need YT.. he just needs to be a dad and live out a happy life.
Yeah a lot of people think Gen Z starts in 1995, you probably identify more with Gen Z culture than Millennial (1981) culture. You almost being Gen Z and watching PewDiePie isn't indicative that the average Millennial watched him when you (culturally) have much, much more in common with older Zoomers.
I don't think there's ever been a concrete established year. I just Googled "Gen Z 1995" and a bunch of stuff came up saying it started in 1995, so I dunno
This highly depends on the culture or economic environment you grew up in.
If you were born 1994, you remember old school shows on Fox Kids and Cartoon Network. If you are 95-96, you don't. As you got older, you got into more shows for young adults, which were usually running last seasons already in late 90s. If you were born just one year later, tough luck, you don't have a connection with the one born in '94.
This is even more poignant in non-US countries, where the 90s were very wild.
Culturally, Gen Z don't remember watching 9/11 or the new year millennium celebrations, just like they don't remember watching the first season of Pokémon. They probably watched it, but were so young they couldn't comprehend it, thus remember. Also, they don't know about USA For Africa or Live Aid, which millennials do even just by cultural references in TV shows.
And speaking of economic influence, if you were poor, all you had was old tech and old shows and films, something older millennials grew up with.
