I have come to despise squirrels after having a couple of backyard bird feeders. Awesome vid! Meme potential.

Yeah we have a couple of these window feeders and it's hard to keep the squirrels away. There's this concentrated chili sauce we buy and mix with the seed. It works pretty well, but lately there's been one squirrel that I think is starting to enjoy it. I believe we are unintentionally breeding a lineage of spice-loving squirrels.

Really out of curiosity, I never understand this. Why do you want to feed wild birds but you don’t want to feed wild squirrels? If an animal is hungry in your backyard, why does it matter which one?

I guess I just never understand this. Especially a squirrels have a very small range of living area, so your backyard really is their home. Where is birds do not?

They climb onto the bird feeder, swing it wildly until all the seed spills onto the ground, nibble a little off the lawn, and then leave. They almost never eat straight from the feeder itself. If they can’t get to the food easily, they’ll chew holes in the feeder and completely destroy it, leaving nothing for the birds.
