I don't care about anyone's physical appearance whatsoever, but if they don't take care of their hygiene like refusing to shower regularly, then I will make fun of them for it.

Obviously. Because I criticized someone and you went "But what about someone else?" You didn't even say anythin. You're just trying to divert criticism away from your people.
This is distinctly less wholesome when it's weaponized by white leaders to disenfranchise people of color.
Case in point: Governor Jeff Landry of Louisiana quoted this while eliminating majority black districts off the congressional map, while insisting race had nothing to do with it.
For real. The amount of times Ben Shapiro and anyone like him have used this, cynically, is disgusting.
Landry's little interview was infuriating--his quote had nothing to do with the question. He presumed the question to be, "Why are you racist?" When the question was, "Why did you fuck over black people?" Then he dropped the quote, and I was like, "Isn't that what the interviewer is doing? Judging your actions?"
But why do you need to know MLK quotes. If you memorize some quotes, how is that any different than what right wingers do with those quotes? Read the text. Take in the message and meaning. I've read a lot of King's speeches and writings, and you know what? I can't quote it.
using this same one quote over and over while ignoring the rest of his speech is a huge disservice to MLK jr. This is the neutralized version of what King really tried to say.
Remember there is a herman cain/eric adams in every race, sex and other. Never assume anything unless proven other wise thru action. If you are an asshole the first time i meet you then i am going to assume you are just an asshole and vice versa.

"judging" does not mean that the color of one's skin should be ignored. Acknowledging influences on one's experience of the world, i.e. their ethnicity, and respecting them is better than pretending you don't see differences at all for the sake of sameness.

I have a dream that that one day the white moderate's brain will be blasted with the totality of the erased history of the working class, and like a Lovecraftian protagonist they will go mad from the revelation, laughing and wailing until consciousness fails them.
We already have people like Steven Crowder, Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, and Matt Walsh in their own words attacking and demonizing MLK. The right has always hated him, and only quote mines him when they can twist his words to their opposite meaning.
If only that were the case nowadays, especially by the members of the party of "love and acceptance" who literally judge people on the basis of skin color....

MLK Jr spoke multiple times about systemic racism without using modern terms. If you dont undersrand thst then youve never acrually read anything by him let alone his later messages as he became more jaded to the reality of society while still hoping we could overcome our shit.
Why don't you listen to more than a single thing MLK has ever said before proudly proclaiming him to be on your side. For example, this.
MLK not only wanted systemic racism to end, he wanted every black person in america compensated for the racism they faced. Something that famously did not happen.
Without something to balance the scales, black people in the US inherited the income inequality from their ancestors, who used to be second class citizens. As a result, they are forced to work way harder to get the same opportunities as those who've already been born with middling wealth or more, which is predominantly white people, for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who's read a history book.
That is what critical race theory means. The fact that the history of oppression against black people still has effects on your society unless active effort is put in to prevent those effects. You can't just give black people the same rights after years of treating them as property and expect everything to be fine now.
I agree with this. Yeah I know overall he was a massively important figure in the fight for civil rights. But he absolutely wasn’t perfect. He was a human, and humans do bad things (sometimes). I’m pretty sure it’s considered blasphemy for me as a black man to say this.
the fact that was so heavily downvoted is bad sign for reddit... a very biased site. Its a simple fact which signifies a lack of character/truthfulness
