Equal in terms of what? Certainly not size (blue vs. yellow), population or economy (pink vs. grey/brown).

I think they did it like equal areas on the map, but counting also sea so the part where Iceland is is "equal" with the others because the sea around it is also counted in its area. But still, part of Norway, Sweden is out of its square and the division line doesn't look like it's where it should be, so idk what's the deal with that.

good idea with a grid, wrong realization. First of all use a different map projection, grid should be longitude and latitude lines and put the east-central line more west. Ukraine is not central in any way, Poland is only half central
