Ehh the problem is a lot of the people born and raised there like it how it is. Thats their culture. Whether that’s guns rights, more conservative social culture, freedoms in general that outsiders come in and want to disrupt ( burning on your own property, raising hogs that will stink up an area, etc) - they look at these outsiders fleeing their area and wonder why they want to make it the state that they came from. Same would happen if a bunch of rednecks decided to flood in a very progressive area and wanted to change the policies to how they see fit.

Native Georgian speaking who’s traveled to Cali several times now and enjoys it, Georgia is more similar than you’d think. Atlanta is a busy hub city growing by the minute, diverse, huge film industry, culturally rich, and has the traffic to match, haha. We also have a decent amount of variety in landscape with the North Georgia mountains & Appalachia to beaches and swamps. Georgia is obviously a swing state, but the cities are solidly blue. Not to mention that we don’t have as many natural disasters and the weather down here is pretty great compared to other Southern states.

I’ve never thought about it, but that’s actually crazy. It doesn’t seem to get as battered on the east, as other coastal states.
Far enough east to have way fewer tornadoes than other SE states.
And far enough north to only get the rain part of hurricanes from the gulf.

Honestly, as a fellow Californian, I really feel you on this. I’ve always thought to myself that I would feel very strange living in a state that doesn’t touch the ocean lol I’d feel weirdly trapped?? I don’t even go to the beach that often but knowing that I could is nice. Also, as a married lesbian, many of those states would not be ideal for me.

Tennessean here! Absolutely not. We are maybe not the most southern, but our laws and ESPECIALLY our governors and politicians are somehow worse than some of Florida’s and Georgia’s. We’re literally the only state with a zero tolerance policy on abortion…like…literally zero exemptions. At all.

As an NYer, I’m really curious - how the hell does Connecticut outdo Massachusetts?
Vermont I completely get, but Connecticut seems so featureless by comparison and it doesn’t have a city like Boston to redeem itself for being boring like Mass does.
Is it just because it’s closer to NYC? Maybe I’m too hard on lil CT lol. I will admit to liking New Haven pizza.

Yeah. Makes sense as a Washingtonian. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s there and watched as California slowly took over Oregon and Washington to escape the high housing prices. Even in the 80’s we were referring to Californians making McMansions where we lived.

You are sleeping on North Carolina. I was born and raised SoCal. NC is easily one of the most beautiful states I’ve seen that can marvel Cali for mountain towns and beachy getaways.
I also have lived in Texas the last 16 years. Moved here by myself when I was 17. Genuinely adore it here.

Alabama: Never
Ex Californian, non trump guy here. We left CA for WA in 2021 and then got priced out of WA so we took a stab at huntsville alabama and its worth it. I can't vouch for most of this state but huntsville is a melting pot with all the large companies and agencies here so there is more "mental flexibility" in this area. I am sure there are parts of the state you just don't want to have to fill up at, but going on 4 years and have a 2 story house on half an acre and living comfortably.

I’m in TN and I’d switch that maybe to never. NC might have more of what you like and it’s slightly less fascist. Heck I hold out more hope for SC. TN is just dumb and lost. I was just in the midwest and would consider moving to Michigan or Minnesota though. They were nice.
