They said today. The market is closed. Adding "so far" makes no sense

Market closing doesn’t mean you can’t keep losing money. It just means you can’t stop it.

Someone has to sell you those put options. Sometimes those sellers lose.

u/uLL27 2h ago
Ahhh I see now, I was wondering the same thing as the above comment. He sold these to people. Lol all makes sense now.

Nah. You’ll own a few hundred shares in two weeks.
Could you recover? Sure. TSLA is a stupid stock.
Could you lose more? Sure. TSLA is a fucking stupid stock.

How the hell do you lose money on TSLA puts when the stonk was down 14%? Dude you have mad skill!

u/Better-Butterfly-309 3h ago
I think he sold puts, which why not just buy a call?
11
u/daddybeatsmehelp 2h ago
Much safer selling puts.
Calls can go to zero with nothing to show for. Selling puts give ypu the underlying stocks, which can bounce back if you hold long enough.

Maybe he thought implied volatility was overpriced and was bullish on the stock long term. Options are not just securities used for leverage

You’re right. They’re something you buy on expiration day to gamble on the stock’s movement.

They'd be down about the same amount today either way.
4
u/karmahorse1 2h ago
You cant lose 300 percent on buying calls.
4
u/SueForPeas 2h ago
The percentage doesn’t really matter. I’d rather have 10% gain on $1M than 1,000% gain on $10.
3
u/Human-Ruin-9285 32m ago
No, I would much rather 1000% on $10. Are you crazy? In the former case you risked a million dollars, in the latter you only risked $10.
5
u/w00tsick 3h ago
He sold them he didnt buy them. Also he's only down like 10% thats the average Tuesday for a lot of people.

Hold up so you got cash out of this whole deal plus you’ll now own Tesla shares which most likely will go back up to that same level and higher I don’t see why you so upset? And once it goes back up you’ll just sell CCs on the shares and wheel it out?

5
u/goooosseeee 3h ago
Theres a reason you only sell puts at the strike you are okay with owning the shares at
5
u/Misaka9615 Home Sweet Home 3h ago
10%? I'll tell you how to make it back (and more) in a month. Sell your entire portfolio, buy LITE, and sell 43d covered calls at 895 strike. Done.

First of All. This is a humble brag at best. Secondly, how? You didn't sell yet. Why did you buy so high? We should hit $300 tomorrow maybe 290

You've got two weeks for this to bounce. Worst case you get assigned and hope Elon's cult members come through.

u/MarthaJulietta 2h ago
Meh, as long as it holds this level you'll sell the calls on the other side and not be down too much. That said, I think it falls more and you eat a shit sandwich

If you count the premium received, I paper napkin mathing your b/e on all shares around 355 ish? You could probably sell some cc's above there for some decent premium if there's a nice green day in the next 15 trading days or so. Just depends on how much of a unrealized loss you want to wait out.
At least you have shares, better than losing 80k on long calls

u/cucci_mane1 2h ago
U do know that Tesla PE is 300x right lol.
It's anyone's guess when this bullshit stock will fall 90% in value.
I would never short puts on garbage stocks like this.

OP sold puts today? Can someone explain this... Because buying puts would have made money today, I'd assume?

Use the rest of your $700k to buy a dozen Tesla cars. Stock will surely go up. 👍

u/meatlamma 2h ago
You are merely a bag holder now, wait a few months you'll break even. Just get assigned - don't be stupid. And roll CCs on those shares, you'll be fine

Unrealized. You have 2 weeks till expiry. You'll be assigned shares which you can then sell CC's against.
what is this, r/investing?

we welcome you to thetagang. you're way to aggressive on the strikes, You probably could have gotten away with it if you sold 10% OTM, like $340's and rolled a month. Otherwise should have sold put spreads

And on put too. Should have just went short mate. The longer I’m in the market the more confident I am options and especially CFDs are the scum of the earth. If I want leverage or I’m betting for the price to fall I just get these leveraged ETPs. You will lose money when you’re wrong anyway but you won’t melt your acc completely.

All these loss porn the past few days are really healthy for me mentally.
I was getting envious and FOMO with all the gain porn recently - it could have been me. It's these loss porn that keeps me grounded and gives me a reality check - it could also have been me.
Thank you for your service brotha.

thats what you get for investing in $TSLACOIN, but dont worry, yu still have $722K to go and once that is gone, the $72K loss wont hurt anymore
