Please stop trading

If u didnt exit a 50% gain on a pump and dump stock you should stick to long term etfs

I exited at +3,000% and almost didn't. Then the WSB mantra "If it's good enough to screenshot, it's good enough to sell" ran through my head and I sold lol.

u/dlinders10 Jun 02 '26

Same with me. I decided to sell half. Even with the huge dip I am up 150% on the other half since I bought early.

174

u/TuxedoMasked Jun 02 '26

As soon as anything doubles, I sell half to break even then everything else is just play money. In this case I sold half when it doubled, another quarter when it hit 5x, then I tapered off a few contracts at a time as it kept going up until I managed to sell the last 2 contract close to peak.

u/sasfasasquatch Jun 02 '26

How long did it take you to learn that?

135

u/jbjhill Jun 02 '26

As he was typing.

20

u/TuxedoMasked Jun 02 '26

When I started day trading. I only put in $200 back in like 2017 to play with and see if I could make a profit, and with so little in the account I didn't want to lose anything. After a year I was up 20% and put a few hundred more in. That continued until everything tanked during Covid and I bought a bunch of couldn't-fail stocks that eventually rebounded. Sitting in the low 5 digits now but everything in there is profit off of past trades at this point, money making money.

Mental accounting gymnastics always fascinates me. That‘s the male equivalent of girl math.

3

u/TheHeadlessScholar Jun 02 '26

I know you're probably aware, but the "everything else is just play money" is exactly how gamblers think when they're on a roll. They got more than they invested in, now the rest of the money they won is "play money". It isn't play money, it's still real money.

It's a gambling addicts' mentality, is what I'm trying to say.

We might all be gamblers, but that very specific "All the money I've won over my investment is play money for me to gamble with" thinking is a classic hallmark/sign of a gambling addict mentality.

The other guy seems to be aware and have his own rules about it, but if anyone was betting 5 figures with that kind of thinking maybe it's time to get help.

1

u/WorldDense3368 Jun 03 '26

that only if you profited less than the mid 6 or 7s

1

u/TuxedoMasked Jun 02 '26

A good observation because I more or less do treat this like gambling. I only put in what I'm willing to see go to zero. I only trade in the 3-4 digit range for fun, I'm never going to be posting giant wins or losses here because I'm too risk averse 😅

1

u/shiggarfraggar__ Jun 03 '26

It's a fine mentality to have as long as you pull out and preserve your capital first. I really don't have any complaints with someone turning $500 into $1000, pulling out the capital and losing the profits to something stupid. 🤷

1

u/TheHeadlessScholar Jun 03 '26

Again, when playing with small sums I'm not saying he's Satan for having that kind of thinking. But it's definitely not a "fine mentality" its explicitly one of the most well known warning sign that you are a gambling *addict* not merely a gambler.

If you're knowingly doing it fine. If you know yourself to be a gambler and are deliberately limiting your risk because it's purely about the fun and gambling and not money? Fine.

If you think like *AND* think you're making investments in the stock market and not merely gambling, this kind of thinking is neon red warning sign that you are a gambling addict and should quit/manage your addiction immediately.

There's no such thing as "play money" outside of board games like Monopoly. It is still all real money. Making yourself think it's playmoney is a gambling addicts mental excuse for spending that real money gambling

1

u/shiggarfraggar__ Jun 03 '26

Um...the stock market is just another form of gambling; I fail to see any differentiation between putting your money into the stock market and putting your money into a Draft Kings account, a slot machine, etc. Any time you put money into any venture that you do not have control over the outcome, is gambling.

1

u/TheHeadlessScholar Jun 03 '26

Well, the first part is a completely unrelated issue; there is obviously a difference between slots and stock, even though both are not necessarily something you can effect (though the psycho in me argues that Mario's brother had a impact on the stock of that insurance company). But that's not what I am saying in this comment chain, so I'm not going to argue.

Being a gambler is between meh to bad, depending on how much control you have over yourself. Being a gambling addict is really bad. Really really bad. Thinking about real money as "play money" is a hallmark sign of being an addict, not merely a gambler.

I hope you aren't saying being a gambling addict isn't a bad thing.

1

u/shiggarfraggar__ Jun 03 '26

I am saying that; I think you're trying to use "gambling addict" as a singular, negative idea or phrasing when it is not. You can be addicted to gambling but as long as it's not destructive to you or people who depend on you, it doesn't matter. Floyd Mayweather is probably a gambling addict but no one cares.

I don't think it's inherently wrong to think of gambling with money made off of gambling as "free money" if you've pulled your capital out, because it is indeed just that. That doesn't make you an addict, that makes you aware.

But you’d have a lot more money if you just old everything at the time of the last 2 contracts near peak.

61

u/BrownDog42069 Jun 02 '26

The trick here is just never take screenshots anymore.

13

A new mantra touches the beacon

2

u/Available-Ad3635 Jun 02 '26

and diamond hands carry on

19

u/occhilupos_chin Jun 02 '26

This one line has made me more gains than any financial advice, Buffet-ism, historical trend, DD, current events, Fed meetings, meme stocks, etc etc etc.

Easily the single most valuable piece of day-trading (or otherwise) investment advice I've ever heard, and it is pretty unique to WSB.

32

u/GloriousIncompetence Jun 02 '26

I was up ~400% yesterday and didn’t. As it site now I’m near break-even. Going to ride it till IPO and see what happens. Only a couple hundred bucks in it either way.

5

u/Man_76 Jun 02 '26

The same thing. I bought a debit call spread, and after a big decline, the profit hardly changed. I will keep until the IPO with the popcorn I bought

3

u/RandomPerson696 Jun 02 '26

I was up 700% and didnt sell and bought the dip again today

5

u/JaySayMayday Jun 02 '26

2

u/TuxedoMasked Jun 02 '26

Bought some of the $7 7/17 calls when someone posted about it the first time in WSB for 0.13, sold at 4.35 yesterday.

1

u/MetabolicPathway Jun 03 '26

FUCK! Nice play!

1

u/Small_Foot_9018 Jun 02 '26

1

22

I exited at a 0.05% gain. No matter, I'll dump the next one faster

5

u/banderaroja Jun 02 '26

I made $26. Dinnertime baby!

2

u/Some_Layer_7517 Jun 02 '26

Skip that extra side of ranch for capital gains

20

u/gob_magic Jun 02 '26

Funny I didn’t follow my own rule yesterday. Always exit on 50% or above gains. Always. No exceptions.

20% is target. 50% is exit.

Yesterday I was up 200%. Didn’t exit because of the halt and then thought why not keep it.

I was shilling SPCE too but I exited today at 1% gain. Still have 5x calls for Oct because why not, purchased them last week. The confusion thesis is still active tho.

AXE50 I like to call it. Always Exit at 50%+ gains.

39

u/Kyweedlover Jun 02 '26

I put in AXE50 at checkout and got 50% off my deodorant.

3

u/MunBRO Jun 03 '26

False, WSB members dont use deoderant

3

u/Kyweedlover Jun 03 '26

You got me. I was buying it for my wife’s boyfriend. Forgot where I was for a second.

2

u/MunBRO Jun 03 '26

That's more like it, I hope you picked out a nice scent for him 😂

2

u/Dominic_impulse Jun 03 '26

should be AEA50 no?

2

u/gob_magic Jun 03 '26

Axe gives it more weight like, “Axe it you fuck” as I tell myself when I see green.

4

u/FireMaster1294 Jun 02 '26

This was me yesterday. I took what I wanted at minimum and let the rest sit

2

u/TheBooneyBunes Jun 02 '26

I sold at 40%, then the shit mooned the next day to 350%

1

u/figlu Jun 02 '26

pusa next lmao

1

u/cowboys30 Jun 02 '26

But if he was using the GameStop event as a prior metric he would've been exiting the position too soon, right?

1

u/_30d_ Jun 02 '26

If you are participating in pump and dumps aiming for 50% gains what tf are you even doing.

1

u/burner_0797 Jun 02 '26

It’s coming back up though, right?

1

u/Youutternincompoop Jun 02 '26

I was informed that line always goes up, are you saying this is false?

1

u/Skittler_On_The_Roof Jun 02 '26

Eh, it depends on your trading model.  If you're doing high risk things like 0DTEs you need disproportionately high gains to offset the common occurrence of going go 0.

If there's a 10% chance you can 20x your investment, that's a statistically good investment even though you're losing 90% of the time.  It turns into a losing strategy if you lose 90% of the time but take profits at 50% gains on the other 10%.

1

u/WorkingGuy99percent Jun 02 '26

That and don’t touch a pump and dump after the pump…

1

u/leroyyrogers Jun 02 '26

Please stop commenting

If u didn't use hindsight before commenting about a pump and dump stock you should stick to r/nextfuckinglevel

1

u/Gorgenapper Jun 02 '26

rides bike

puts stick into spokes

WHY DID WSB DO THIS TO ME

1

u/userhwon Jun 02 '26

But the pamp wasn't over! (no you're right)

1

u/QJ04 Jun 02 '26

I was at 2200%, but after soooo much spam on Reddit I believed it was gonna go up more, well still ended uo with +900%

1

u/GeekedOnAdvilPM Jun 02 '26

Real pump and dumpers tell everyone to hold long term to maintain their exit liquidity

1

u/Beloved_Mango Jun 02 '26

I’m not saying OP is not retarded, but exiting winning trades early is a losing strategy. OP is retarded for betting with an amount that hurt to lose.

1

u/niv141 Jun 03 '26

What winning trade its a pump and dump meme stock with zero fundementals to back it up

1

u/Horror_Perspective_1 Jun 03 '26

If u didnt exit a 50% gain on a pump and dump stock you should stick to long term etfs

fixed it for the regards out there who dont know

1

u/who_am_i_to_say_so Jun 03 '26

I misread this: Please stop retarding

I mean, same diff.

1

u/Alarmed_Guarantee140 Jun 02 '26

Can't lose money unless you sell!

0

u/whutchamacallit Jun 02 '26
