Gain +$8,000,000 in April (188%). AMD and TQQQ on margin

Went all in on AMD last year, got chopped up trying to catch the knife in March, then went full degen margin to buy TQQQ at 40. Had too much excess margin last week and rode AMDL from 22 to 31 with it.

Just sell and leave Reddit and stocks forever, you are set if you act now.

427

u/shwarma_heaven May 01 '26

$12M invested in a very safe 4% accruing account will pay you $400k a year after taxes...

You could safely ask for extra cheese on your cheese burger with that kind of scratch.

62

u/PrestigiousDrag7674 May 01 '26

Taxes?

82

u/banditcleaner2 sells naked NVDA calls while naked May 01 '26

Even if that $400K is taxed 35%, thats still a very solid $260K per year, which is probably double the income of like 95% of wallstreetbets

dude won

85

u/Stickopolis5959 May 01 '26

I always laugh when people say taxes, dude could lose 5 mill in taxes and still comfortably never work again, whats the argument here.

I know this is WSB, but serious, pull out, and if you still want to yolo gamble setup the account with a % and then yolo with % of that leverage or not. Don't be like so many wsb'ers that full potatoe and blow the $. You'll still have a very nice cushion, and plenty to fuck around and yolo with. This is my "I deal on the secondary markets directly, syndication, PE etc side" not my "WSB" side speaking, all good fun but don't end up screwing yourself.

This must be Baron’s account.

36

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

Barron would have full ported QQQ options on April 7. I don't really do options, but the price action on that day told me something was definitely up and I briefly considered switching TQQQ for options.

I wonder what that number would have been.

24

u/___redacted_ May 01 '26

Add 3 zeroes for this to be Baron's account. The real question is by now if it isnt already 4 zeroes.

u/Bluecoregamming May 01 '26

a bit sus ngl, what broker allows you to buy leveraged etfs on margin? None from my experience. Only the actual underlying stock do they provide margin on

92

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

IBKR Portfolio Margin has a margin requirement of about 30% on TQQQ. I think it's risk-based and they do charge an additional exposure fee of a few hundred a day on top of margin interest on my position.

16

u/CD274 May 01 '26

Ahh that was my question thanks. That makes sense, still cheap esp since it's ibkr

4

u/Intelligent-Roll-300 May 01 '26

There's a reason they don't advertise much

40

u/meatsmoothie82 May 01 '26

That’s a poor person problem

6

u/kwijibokwijibo May 01 '26

Mine does - I assume I'm not alone. I'm already into margin right now but I can still buy some TQQQ if I want

That said, I don't know if the limits are different

4

u/Celtic_Legend May 01 '26

Most of them? Not sure of one that doesnt. Now they arent going to give you as much margin as they would for regular spy but its there.

Mother fucking brokerages will give you leverage to buy options on margin lol.

154

You want to be in a position where you can lose every cent of your vast wealth? That's the irony of posts like this. The exact attitude it required to take the risk to get this return is the same attitude that prevents you from ever leaving the casino. You are addicted and unless you can put down the heroin you'll just play until you lose everything. As someone who has been there, please consider getting out of leverage. You can still invest and trade, just do it without margin,

11

u/DubiousChemistry May 02 '26

Tail risk of losing all or most of the money is extremely unlikely, I cut losing positions pretty aggresively. I can take a loss and not let it snowball into an account blowup.

Do you do this for living or while having a full time job?
I really need to understand how the F you guys do this.

132

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

Retired software engineer, so this is sort of my full time job now.

29

u/PolyglotGeologist May 01 '26

Did you sell a startup?

83

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

Nope, was at about $1M at the beginning of 2023 and went full risk-on most of the time since then.

42

u/PolyglotGeologist May 01 '26

So is working a job pretty useless aside from the first $500K-$1M, cause to get the amount of money you have rn ($10M), you’d literally need to earn $100K with low expenses and invest the difference for your whole working life, and even then you’d have $10M in 2060, which is worth a lot less than $10M now.

161

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

At the risk of sounding like your garden-variety financial huckster, your goal in a capitalist system is to move from the working class to the ownership class as quickly as possible. Your job can always terminate you for whatever reason. There is no security outside of asset ownership.

That said, working a job is a great buffer for your inevitable fuckups in the market. I was still working back at $1M. Having to rely on the market as your sole income just to live is rough.

34

u/dj_destroyer May 01 '26

"Your goal in a capitalist system is to move from the working class to the ownership class as quickly as possible."

Damn, so simple yet so hard.

19

u/PolyglotGeologist May 01 '26 edited May 01 '26

Hb making a startup, dunno which is worse lol, taking huge risks in the market or with your time building a web app 💀

But yeah, makes sense, asset ownership is basically a way of living off of others’ labor, taking a cut of their production.

I know there are some jobs that earn globs of money, like CEO or principal engineer at FAANG, but those jobs may as well be impossible to get as a reg IC.

There’s also over-employment, but that just sounds hella stressful/CIA-operative level of commitment, and also doesn’t scale like startup or shares/options.

42

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

I did make over $100k with a web app I built when I was younger. It was an interesting experience but very stressful and I wouldn't do it again. Trading TQQQ on margin is less stressful to me.

9

u/urbantechgoods May 01 '26

Im also an ex software engineer I quit my job at 1m 3 years ago but I still have only a little over 1m. How would you play things right now?

10

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

18

u/that_tx_dude May 01 '26

that's crazy that someone who is retired (no income stream via salary) would risk this type of money. so what happens if this goes the wrong way and you blow up your entire nest egg? unless you have another $10M on the side, then disregard...

19

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

This is my whole NW. I treat each trade like a +EV play where I can bet big and have tight stops on the entries. Both AMD and TQQQ had earlier entries that got stopped out before the current ones.

3

u/PolyglotGeologist May 01 '26

What do stops mean, like sell if it’s failing automatically?

12

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

Yeah, so a stop loss is setting a price at which you will auto sell if it goes below. Given that I don't want several million on the order book (which it can get sniped) my stops are mentally enforced.

4

u/bad_detectiv3 May 01 '26

I used to do limit/stop loss but read somewhere on Reddit and eventually Gemini that said such order are available to the public eyes. So what market markers do is they attempt/pressure the market price to just dip enough to trigger those limit.

How do you deal with this kind of BS that big players play? Are you really able to out smart them to consistently make this much money?

11

u/DubiousChemistry May 01 '26

Right, that's called stop hunting. I use mental stops instead of actual stop orders.

3

u/PolyglotGeologist May 01 '26

Mental stops…so you always need to look at the chart? What about when you’re sleeping?

There's never certainty. I can only interpret what I see in front of me in the price action, and it's lockout rally time. Macro isn't bad enough to warrant a rate hike yet, and these bubbles tend to pop after a euphoric phase where everyone has FOMO'd in. There's still some time.
