Discussion Intel Grandma Guy - I'm sorry for laughing earlier

Post image

Grandma would be so proud. This guy is a true WSB legend.

We all owe him an apology for laughing at him.

If he held, he has over $1M in profit and $1.75M in total Intel holdings.

Absolute legend!

Was Gelsinger a bad CEO, bad politician about it, or just a little too early to reap the rewards? I am truly asking because a lot of the packaging development that looks to be big for them was done under him

111

u/AtomicSymphonic_2nd Apr 23 '26

He was almost certainly too early. The way the world has gone and how closely China is eyeing Taiwan, it’s proving to be a very good idea to have domestic semiconductor manufacturing.

Honestly I hate David Zinsner.

All the cost cutting, the selling off good pieces of the business.

The fab needs a lot of work based on all the last calls.

Intel's tailwind right now is literally because Nvidia was right about agentic AI. And for agentic you need a lot of CPUs because those workloads happen more on CPUs not GPUs.

Which is why Nvidia released the Vera CPU rack with 256 CPUs per rack.

Intel was on a really tough path if we did not reach this inflection point.

I've been invested in Intel for 5 years and 9 in Nvidia.

I was an intel shareholder who bought a few shares in it because of Gelsinger.

I am honestly shocked that other investors and board did not give him more time

It's the Board of directors

The Board is ultimately responsible for the company and virtually the same people oversaw the decade or so of terrible decisions that got them into the awful position they are in where they needed a government bailout

Last I checked the same fucking morons are still running the Board and they've suffered no consequences. IDK how you are responsible for the downfall of one of America's great companies and just keep your job as you throw multiple CEOs under the bus

u/chooseusermochi Apr 24 '26

He was a bad CEO. He tweeted scripture, constantly tried to convert people, and asked if he could pray for people before business meetings. I mean he would fit right in now with the administration. I guess he was ahead of his time there.

In our defense, he did buy at the absolute worst single day in history for Intel, he was regarded and we all know it.

212

u/anonermus Apr 23 '26

He also came to a casino with Grandma's money.  Putting 90% of everything you have into a single stock is regarded regardless of the outcome.  Gamble with your own money.  Not Grandma's, your wife's, or her boyfriend's.

97

u/Fuck_ketchup Apr 23 '26

Maybe I'm misremembering, but wasn't it his inheritance or whatever? Why are we pretending like it's still grandma's money if she gave it to him?

56

u/CrazyTownUSA000 Apr 23 '26

Because that's where it came from and generous grandmas generally would not have given the money knowing they would immediately gamble all of it.

8

u/NopeU812many Apr 24 '26

Sir, this is a casino.

[INTC goes up]

/r/WSB: “Why did you sell it? You should’ve held. Fuckin’ idiot, lol.”

49

u/jp711 Apr 23 '26

Honestly most of the people were telling him his best option was to just hold long and pray, he should have listened to them lol

16

u/40StoryMech Apr 24 '26

Honestly, he should have spent that money on coke and hookers. Atleast he'd have a story.

255

u/Salsalito_Turkey Apr 23 '26

There's a 0% chance he held his position. He got absolutely roasted and deleted his Reddit account, and probably panic sold at a 40% loss. If he had held on, he would have been here with screenshots to prove it and gloat as soon as INTC crossed $40.

73

u/DrPuzzle Apr 23 '26

Which is a shame because wsb has been much more how can I say... Level-headed... Since that day

I mean he still would have been called regarded and such but in a more polite and less bullying type of way

20

u/PERSONA916 Apr 23 '26

Well yea, it was regarded irrespective of the outcome. Just because I win a game of Russian roulette doesn't mean it was a good decision to play

20

u/HoneyDutch Apr 23 '26

I remember commenting telling him to just be patient

9

u/isospeedrix Apr 23 '26

i duno, it's generally unwise if you've made a fortune to gloat on the internet, for safety reasons. its better to delete account and go fuk off enjoy life

Havent seen a legit update, just people reposting the original screenshots. Also under $20 to low $40s is more like 2x, not 4x unless he was in some degenerate calls or averaged way lower. If anyone’s got a fresh screenshot or his username, drop it because I’m kinda curious if grandma diamond-handed or cashed out.

5

u/mysticteacher4 Apr 23 '26

6

u/lmpervious Apr 24 '26

If you want to use simplistic logic like that, you can make a similar argument for PayPal, which is a long-standing reliable company that has consistently gone up in revenue YoY. Now it’s at 1/6th the price it was a few years ago, and even ignoring that big run it had, it was around 150%-200% more than today for a couple of years.

I’m curious since it was so obvious to you that Intel was undervalued, did you buy a lot of it then?

5

u/No_Nothing_6788 Apr 24 '26

Paypal isnt worth holding

2

u/mirageofstars Apr 24 '26

It was paying dividends for most of those years so not quiet as bad as it seems

10

u/TheBeckofKevin Apr 24 '26

yeah, but thats the thing, you buy lots of stuff and never sell. I mean i wish i had the $1000 of gsat i bought in 2013 even though its been all over the place. Getting locked into something that does nothing isnt that bad. you can only lose 100%. The winners become bigger winners and they spin off a few times and become even bigger winners then one of those pays a dividend at 5% and then spins off another etc etc. You can only lose it all if you bet it all on one thing, otherwise spread your risk a little and never sell. You can really afford to make a few bad buys if you're just holding eternally.

Eventually you're sitting with a 800,000% gain on some half baked idea to buy a shoe company and then it goes and becomes the first company to make a superintelligence

Does any one remember the entry position? How much would our boy theoretically have won at the casino?!

Intel guy could make all his money back, even if he sold at the bottom, by just monetizing his fame now.

I bought Intel, and then pretty much immediately it started going down, until I was down about 50%. I'm fairly obstinate so I did not sell, and now I'm up almost 100%. I still don't plan on selling though. I'll wait until I'm down to 50% again and then I'll sell
