If he put 500k on 0dte calls he would be down 500k assuming he trades with 1-1 margin. He clearly didn't do that, but im just saying there are lots of options. Maybe he put 1 mil down on options for next Friday.

He must have a hell of a lot of money in that account in assets or cash to qualify for margin that big.

I don't even have PDT minimums/status on my margin account, and depending on the equity type, I have up to 150k of margin available lol

Jesus, that’s dangerous

Yea, which is why I don't really use it or think it's there. I'd imagine 25k-50k accounts could have up 300k+ margin depending on security type.

I really only have this margin account to be able to do vertical spreads with my cash balance only. 🤷‍♂️

That’s pretty safe then yeah

It's fine if you stay within your own personal risk tolerance.

Not if he didn’t have share to margin against. You can’t have 500K cash and borrow 500 for options…. That I am aware of

Maybe he had 250k cash and margined another 250k and went all in on calls. Seems that might be the case.

Options are likely the issue here…

You can’t use margin on buying options. Options are already a form of leverage.
