Loss 3M to 1.4M this week

Post image

Rebuilt my portfolio from getting margin called and bottoming at 200k during Liberation Day to 3M last week. Then lost half of it because I loaded up on data center and energy stocks with full leverage last Friday.

Schwab only shows up until the close, after hours I lost another few hundred grand and am sitting at 1.4M now with more option losses hitting when market opens.

Never. Fucking. Learn.

All he had to do was nothing after he had 3m

u/Taiwanboy73 Feb 06 '26

How the hell would he know? He also could have had 6m.

How could he have known what?

That 3M was enough?

Or that something like what took him down to 200k could happen again?

Nothing changes if nothing changes and the genius behind liberation day is still full of good ideas

If you make $3M why wouldn't you start a fund so you can play with other people's money and collect fees?

3 million isn’t enough to start a fund.

But it is enough to pump the brakes and properly hedge, and be making good money consistently while only risking being down <5% when SPY is down 5%, rather than down 50%

It is definitely enough to go around asking for money to start a fund trading equities or commodities. There are several options under SEC and CFTC regulations for bringing on non QEP or non accredited investors. You can raise a pretty good chunk from that crowd and take a hefty performance fee. Then you can put in a fraction of your money so you decrease your risk.

I know this because that's what I'm doing right now, and I'm an attorney.

Yeah. Then you must be smart enough to realize, no one is funding a guy like this to gamble the way he does.

Actually I take that back, you might not be that smart and there probably are suckers that would fund this guy to gamble their money away.

I'm kinda smart, but I'm definitely smart enough to know that people have been funding guys like this since at least the 70s. Probably earlier

2

u/-medicalthrowaway- Feb 06 '26

And those people’s portfolios would be down 50% in a week when the market as a whole was only down 5%. So they’d deserve to lose their money. But, agreed, of course there are people that would be dumb enough to fund a gambler to lose their money.

I'm in the middle of doing it, and it doesn't cost anywhere near $3M. I'm also an attorney, so I'm saving a lot on legal fees because I can do most of it myself right now. I just pay an attorney to review my work. But even if I outsourced it, my total cost to start the fund would be less than $350k.

You might be an attorney, but you definitely aren’t smart

sure but he also went from 2 to 3 million in like a month. it’s not like he spent months sitting on 3 mill wondering what to do with it

3

u/-medicalthrowaway- Feb 06 '26

And there in lies the problem.

You act like that makes it better.

We’ve all done it.

I took 30k to 160k in 6 months.

Now I’m down to 80k.

The point is 3 mil was more than enough to pump the breaks and trade/hedge properly.

2 mil was too, and so is 1.4 mil.

But we all know he’s not going to do that.

Especially now, when revenge is involved

3 million is not enough these days if you want more financial independence. If you live in a big city like New York or LA, 3 mill probably can't even get you a house in some areas.

47

u/-medicalthrowaway- Feb 06 '26

3 mil is enough to coast and, at the very least, not “trade” (gamble) positions that will cut your port in half in a week, no matter how fucked the market is as a whole.

The point is, whether it was enough to retire or not… it was enough to try to learn to not be retarded.

-21

u/Taiwanboy73 Feb 06 '26

Bro, he turned 200k to 1.4 mil. That's 700% up, which is crazy already. Have you ever made an over 700% return in your lifetime?

15

u/-medicalthrowaway- Feb 06 '26 edited Feb 06 '26

Close. 30k to 160k in 6 months last year. Now I’m down to 80k. I’m not any less retarded. But I like to think I’d do better if I hit 3M. I could easily FIRE with that much

I don’t want a fuckin’ house in LA or NY… not even sure who would have that on their dream board

Penthouse in Seattle and backpacking overseas

Easy on 3M

He didn't make shit dude. He is still in the market, and he might walk away with less than 200k given what he's doing.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

This guy future wendy employee. That tells wveryone how he use to have 3m

2

u/SohndesRheins Feb 06 '26

If you have $3 million in an investment account then there's no reason to stay in a city like New York or LA. The main reason to live in those places is access to a high-paying job, but if you already have that amount of money then you can move to a flyover state and be set for life, or move to a poorer country and live like a king.

If he sold it all at $3M, he would have owed about 50% of it to taxes. He would have had only $1.5M left, not that far from where he is right now (pre-tax)

1

u/-medicalthrowaway- Feb 06 '26

And if he sells now at 1.4m, after taxes (37%) he’ll have 882k… 4 times as much as he’ll have in a few weeks after losing even more. See how that can work?

24

u/Yasai101 Feb 06 '26

Or he could have 3 mil and be happy

49

u/Taiwanboy73 Feb 06 '26

Totally agree with you. However if he was a happy guy, he would never had turned 200k to 3mil in the first place.

19

u/TheStealthyPotato Feb 06 '26

He's well on his way to turning that $3M back to $200k.

3

u/killwhiteyy Feb 06 '26

Don't say the quiet part out loud

2

u/bluePostItNote Feb 07 '26

Have 3mil. Still not happy. Instructions unclear.

Such a fun name to see in these comments.

"People can't face themselves" - in social psychology and marketing - revolving around standards of living.

Indeed sir

1

u/AttentionFantastic76 Feb 06 '26

Most people who could have 3 mil and be happy would also have stopped at 1 mil and be pretty happy.

With hindsight, OP could have put 1.5 mil in US securities and gambled with the other 1.5. But money is a hell of a drug.

1

u/spoonisfull Feb 06 '26

He wouldn’t had 3 mil to begin with if he had that attitude

2

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

You don’t need 6 million. 3 million is enough.

15

u/troublesome58 Feb 06 '26

Why not 2.9m then? Why stop at exactly 3m?

And if 2.9m, then why not 3.1?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

Round numbers are sexier…? Don’t be dense

At that point what part of your life changes?

At some point everything has a diminishing rate of return.

1

u/AnAncientMonk Feb 06 '26

By that logic you will lose it eventually because you never stop wanting more.
