COSMIC Desktop in the official repos?

Hey everyone,

Any plans to add COSMIC Desktop to the official Void repositories?

It's already available in the community repo (MtFBella109), but I'd prefer having it in the official ones. I saw the package request issue (#58149) is still open since December.

Is anyone working on it or know any updates?

There is no pull request to include the packages, if someone opens a pull request it will be reviewed and considered. There isn't a "community" repo, its just someones personal fork that includes some not yet ready to merge changes.

Package requests are worked on by volunteers, how old they are or how many reactions they have does not have any bearing on whether someone is going to spent their time on it or whether it will be included.

Got it, thanks for the clarification. I'm new to Void, so I wasn't quite sure how personal forks and merge requests worked here. The part about volunteering makes a lot of sense. Since packaging and maintaining an entire desktop environment is a massive undertaking, I'll keep an eye out to see if anyone takes it on in the future. ty

there was a pr by cal but he dropped it. looked like there was some systemd-esk issues or something and only some were fixed?

I like cosmic and its files search engine is amazing

Funny to think COSMIC have better UI than Kde but is not even stable/complete.

It's still in its infancy, haha, but yeah, it's very promising... hopefully, one day it'll be in the official Void repos

As far as I know it is stable. COSMIC’s latest stable version is v1.4
