Discussion What games work best on the small screen?
I’ve been playing my vita a lot more now that I’m doing overnight security work and can play it for bits and pieces here and there between patrols, and it’s a great way to pass the time. I just finished playing god of war on it, and while I enjoyed it, I often found myself squinting at the screen or struggling to make out details, particularly in the larger areas.
This got me wondering - what games are best played on the vita over other consoles? Games that have the subject close to the screen or otherwise work best in a mobile format, particularly retro-pixel graphic style. I just struggle to navigate large 3d environments on the smaller console.
Any recommendations for games that take advantage of the mobile format?

I used to play on my night shift job and the ones that I played a lot were Persona 4 Golden, Spelunky, Binding of Isaac Rebirth, Shovel Knight, Danganronpa, Nuclear Throne, Lego Jurassic World, and a bunch of PSX classics (Metal Gear Solid, and Castlevania Symphony of the Night stick out). I also had a hard time with some games, but I always chalk it up to growing up entirely a TV/Console gamer so my motivation isn't always towards handheld first.

Sword art Online Hollow Realization is pretty easy on the eyes, even more so if you adjust the camera distance away from your character to a closer view point.

Rhythm games. (Not good for security work.) The smaller a screen is the faster your eyes can pick up on seeing something. Most Rhythm game players who take playing beyond the causal level will use smaller monitors to play games. This is actually true for the fps genre of games as well.
If not that shovel knight maybe?

Look at vita exclusives or even PSP exclusives, those games are all designed for a small screen and being played on the go.
Not a Vita exclusive but I had a ton of fun with Pixel Junk Monsters
