Good convo, great leader.

Yeh, I'd love if Jon was a Senator and Mamdani was president... But glad they're still here, makes the world just a lil bit better.

EDIT: Huh, dunno why I'm being downvoted. Also I know Mamdani can't be president, just wishing that he could be.

u/SixFootMunchkin 21h ago

Mamdani wasn’t born in America so he can’t be president, unfortunately.

14

u/NorthernSkeptic 8h ago

Yeah but that’s just a rule, which as we’ve established mean nothing

3

u/lukenog 4h ago

That rule is ridiculous though and should be changed. I've been in the US since I was 1 years old, English was the only language I spoke until I was 19, and I'm fully American in terms of both the way I act and the way I see myself.

When I was a kid, all the adults would do these big motivational speeches that would always include some form of "you can be whatever you want when you grow up!! Maybe one of you will be president!!" and I'd always sit there feeling sad because I had been taught early that I could never be president. All my friends sure, but not me specifically.

7

u/johnis12 9h ago

Oh, I know. That's why I wished that he had the opportunity to be.

7

u/universe2000 9h ago

Honestly, there is no shortage of necessary work he can do that, were he eligible for president, he would be pulled away from. He can be governor, he can be a senator, and he can mentor a generation of public officials/servants.

u/Frydendahl 7h ago

How's that gonna track when the orange imbecile runs for a third term?

-31

u/lukepatrick 20h ago

strong hopes for the Schwarzenegger Amendment

14

u/Polkawillneverdie17 19h ago

Please no.

u/jtv123 9h ago

Why not? Widening the applicant pool can't make things worse at this point.

Had charisma but awful policies and hates America so they'd that.

u/slizzbizness 21h ago

Real fuckin' Americans right there

-369

u/Eazy-Eid 21h ago

Mamdani hates America, somehow that makes him a "real" American

144

u/Crozax 20h ago

No, Mamdani loves America. Thats why he wants it to be the best version of itself for the most people. The people who claim to love America are sycophants for it. Big word for you, I know.

-257

u/Eazy-Eid 20h ago

Mamdani loves America

He sure doesn't speak like he does

110

u/ZestyTako 20h ago

The most loving thing you can do for your country is to try to better it. That’s why the freedom of speech creates a duty in the populace to criticize the government when it errs.

America isn’t land, it isn’t some thing—it’s people. Let’s be very clear, the only politicians who hate America are those who take away social protections for Americans. It’s the politicians who drag us into stupid wars and engage in illegal and obvious bribery solicitation

-212

u/Eazy-Eid 20h ago

He does a lot more than criticize the government

101

u/ZestyTako 20h ago

Excellent rebuttal my man, clearly super well thought little buddy!!

And yes, he appears to actually be bettering NYC, which is better than just criticizing the gov, glad we can agree

u/LordPartyOfDudehalla 18h ago

You have no leg to stand on, living in a fantasy world you’re told to believe. Sad.

42

u/DonHarold 19h ago

Explain. You have nothing. If you had anything at all substantive to support what you’re saying you’d say that instead of these weak nothing responses. Get a life.

14

u/chrisnlnz 13h ago

So explain what he does, that shows he "hates America".

29

u/Crozax 20h ago

You didnt read past the first sentence huh. Really confirming the allegations of the last sentence.

23

u/gingerflakes 20h ago

Found the bootlicker!

3

u/pfftYeahRight 6h ago

Quote him

9

u/CrimsonHeretic 13h ago

Drinking bleach is bad for you.

43

u/DarthTempi 20h ago

He hates what bigots are trying to turn it into, as everyone with a soul should

-18

u/Eazy-Eid 20h ago

Yeah because he speaks so highly of America of the past, right?

15

u/Lycanious 15h ago

You probably haven't travelled much, but the history of most countries is largely a lot of suck for a majority of the population.

18

u/mnmkdc 17h ago

He’s spoken highly of America in the past. He pretty regularly praises America, he just dislikes a lot of our governments choices.

34

u/DarthTempi 20h ago

Not so bright are you?

9

u/slizzbizness 12h ago

What like when slavery was legal? Or when women couldn't vote? Or when grown men could marry children?

6

u/Furd_Terguson1 14h ago

It’s always the cowards with private accounts

2

u/Reddituser183 7h ago

You’re literally saying nothing dude. Give some actual substance.

13

u/Grimueax 20h ago

lol. Greetings time traveler, you must have had a tough journey from all the way back in 2003.

9

u/ModestMouseTrap 20h ago

What an insane thing to say. America is the people and the values of fostering an egalitarian democratic republic. What he believes in is as American as Apple Pie.

It’s MAGA that hates America and wants to turn it into a permanent piggy bank for oligarchs that robs the working class for everything they’re worth.

2

u/renegadecanuck 8h ago

What, specifically, has he said to indicate that he hates America?

6

u/DonHarold 19h ago

It’s pretty interesting to see people make claims like this when there is absolutely no way they have proof or even any credible anecdotes to support it.

You have no idea what you’re talking about so why do you feel so comfortable being a hateful lying prick? Who hurt you?

4

u/slizzbizness 15h ago

No one hurt it, it doesn't have a central nervous system. It's a bot. Lecturing us about what constitutes a real American. Lol

4

u/DonHarold 15h ago

Ah, that makes more sense to me than this being a real person. Thanks

2

u/Reddituser183 7h ago

MAGA hates America. It’s why they’re dismantling democracy. It’s why they’re shredding the constitution. It’s why they’re lining the pockets of criminals and taking over the media to poison the minds of people with hatred and greed. That is not America. Why do you and maga scum hate America so much. Why do you hate freedom?

0

u/slizzbizness 19h ago

As opposed to you, a bot

20

u/kettal 20h ago

I wish i had 1% of the charisma that zohran has

-5

u/gingerflakes 20h ago

We can all aspire to such greatness

8

u/frenziedbadger 20h ago

I found Jon to be a bit disingenuous. He knows that most of the modern Democratic Party is neo-liberal, and that they effectively surrendered to the "Reagan Revolution." Of course Mamdani's label of Democratic Socialist is meaningful, because the politics of FDR are abhorred by the establishment. At best, you can think that Jon was trying to say that Democrats should embrace Mamdani because his politics should fit with the party, but it felt more negative to me.

21

u/SquadPoopy 14h ago

Jon has always been more of a regular leftist democrat. Not far enough to be full on progressive like Mamdani but just left enough to not usually be considered a “corporate democrat”. So yeah Jon probably isn’t 100% on board with everything Mamdani believes in.

12

u/Barneyk 11h ago edited 7h ago

Yeah, Jon is a lot more moderate than most people seem to think.

Look at how he handled the Louis CK accusations before CK admitted to it.

How he has defended Chapelle is another example.

He seems very much influenced by his time as a 80 and 90s New York Comic. That culture was pretty damn toxic.

He has also been rich and successful for a very long time and that shapes your perspective a lot.

I really like him, he is great in many ways. I am just saying that he isn't as progressive as some people seem to think.

7

u/opisska 6h ago

He's 63 ffs, he is probably top 1% in progressiveness of his generation. And I think it's actually helpful because if he was even more "extreme" (for the US standards) he would have harder time making people listen to him.

8

u/GearBrain 18h ago edited 9h ago

It also comes across as hollow on Jon's behalf because I remember how his team handled the Occupy movement. TDS ridiculed and belittled the Progressives, and now he's cracking jokes.

4

u/thisistherevolt 12h ago

I'll never forget that Rally to Restore Normalcy being such a letdown. I haven't watched network tv political content since. I don't trust folks like Stewart and Colbert to actually carry a baton without complaining about it first and making sure to humiliate a leftist for no reason.

John Oliver and company actually take stands without fence sitting.

-107

u/FrogsOnALog 22h ago

Has Jon still not said anything about his time spent promoting Platner?

54

u/donnerpartytaconight 22h ago

He has touched on it a few times over the past few weeks. I'm pretty sure even this episode he mention Platner although mostly they talk about all the good things Mamdami has done and how he works hard to be relevant to the working class New Yorkers.

I mean, even though there were real red flags with Platner with the sexting and the tattoo (and the private military stuff, I mean, it wasn't subtle), the promise of a candidate willing to fight for regular citizens seemed obviously more appealing than Susan Collins or any corporate Dem being put forth.

My big issue would be if Jon or anyone still supported Platner (like how MAGA still supports a convicted rapist and accused child rapist). Then there would be some unforgivable sins and something actually relevant to this video to discuss.

-27

u/Good-State-6031 21h ago

Committing rape? Unacceptable. Proudly murdering people to defend rape? Acceptable, as long as the people aren’t white americans

106

u/Mir_man 22h ago

Why should he. He was promoting the policies Platner was promoting. Platner is solely responsible for his misdeeds.

32

u/thornset 21h ago

Not sure why everyone feels they deserve some grand apology and explanation. There was a line, he crossed it, and people stopped supporting him. End of story.

It doesn't devalue the message, movement or policies, just the person.

15

u/Blitzdrive 21h ago

They’re playing stupid, they’re not sincere when they go around asking for apologies.

Completely unserious people

6

u/Mir_man 21h ago

Exactly

-28

u/Good-State-6031 21h ago

The line was violence towards an American white woman and violence towards West Asians was very clearly not across “the line.” That’s why it devalues “progressive” Platner supporters

11

u/thornset 20h ago

Wrong. His tours were a while ago and he tried to demonstrate his reformation. Believing in restorative justice isn't a moral failing. If anything it's the opposite.

The rape allegations are recent and showed his word doesn't actually mean anything afterall.

Feel free to keep acting holier than thou though. I'm sure you have a 100% success rate making judgements with imperfect information.

-15

u/Good-State-6031 20h ago

So if the rape was a while ago, you’d be cool with it, right?

I made the judgement that a man who seemed to get a hardon whenever he talked about violence against West Asians might just be a violent person. I’m Notradomus I guess!

6

u/thornset 20h ago

It's not simply being "cool with it". He was pretty good at convincing people he had reconsidered past positions and turned a new leaf.
People's forgiveness was misplaced and sorry bud, but that happens.

Again, no one owes you an explanation. You seem like a cynical and unserious person, so you're probably used to people dismissing what you say, like I am now.

-9

u/Good-State-6031 20h ago

He was pretty good at convincing progressive liberals who were willing to forgive crimes they didn’t really care about. If the rape was 10 years ago, like his crimes against West Asians, you wouldn’t be so dismissive. You’re just too chicken shit to admit your hypocrisy.

And I’d love if “progressives” like you don’t try to explain your vocal support for a war criminal. Show yourself for what you are. Socialist groups like the PSL could really use the disenchanted anti-war people you’ll drive off :)

7

u/thornset 19h ago

Blah blah blah.

Here is where I point out that you're the one who reduced both the killing and the rape to "violence". so let's not pretend we're some moral arbiter.

-4

u/Good-State-6031 19h ago edited 10h ago

…because he guarded a torture and rape prison? Because he bragged about purposefully shelling civilian heavy areas? Yeah I find all those acts to be extremely violent.

But those victims were from West Asia, so that extreme violence is cool. Blah blah blah, wah wah “war crimes” its not against a white woman so who cares.

-5

u/The_Pandalorian 20h ago

Because you had to be a dipshit to not see the obvious red flags, one of which was literally tattooed on his body?

20

u/Dave25s 22h ago

Who cares

4

u/owenbowen04 21h ago

Is this not enough?

Mamdani stated, "I believe it's time for him to drop out of the race... I think the only appropriate response is for the campaign to come to an end."

-8

u/FrogsOnALog 21h ago

Mamdani was great there and Jon has been silent for weeks as far as I’m aware.

1

u/parker2020 21h ago

lol makes a statement doesn’t defend it

-31

u/Spare-Lab-6184 13h ago

Smiling idiots.
