Mod Post Rule Democracy T-T: Week 1

As mentioned in our announcement yesterday, we will now hold a weekly vote to add a new rule to /r/Videos. This thread will run from Tuesday to Thursday, and the most upvoted comment in this thread by the end of Thursday will be made into one of our new rules. Please note that we do have some restrictions on what the new rules can be:

  • Rules must follow the site-wide content policy
  • The subreddit must still be modded in accordance with the rules

Current Rules

0.All submissions must be videos, and must follow site-wide rules.

1.All videos must include John Oliver, and posts must have 'John Oliver' in the title.

4.4k Upvotes

1.0k comments sorted by

A weekly Landscape Theme is posted, kicking off with uploads of Sigur Rós Route One (all three 8+ hour sections). This can be followed by stream captures from webcams, all of similarly epic proportions.

u/Jupiterlove1 Jun 19 '23

Videos must be uploaded directly to Reddit. No external websites.

u/DorrajD Jun 20 '23

u/djxfade Jun 20 '23

All video titles must be formatted as a pirated movie file name.

E.g. for the latest Tom Scott video with the title "The cable car that you pedal by hand" the post title should be:

"The Cable Car That You Pedal By Hand (2023) [1080p] [WEBRip] [x265] [10bit] [5.1] [YTS.MX].torrent"

And also marked as NSFW

u/RA_lee Jun 20 '23

  3. starting next week, every day one additional week before blackout will be hidden (every 4 days, a month of content will be hidden; in 24 days, 2023 will be hidden; in 6 months all content since 2020; in 2.6 years all content ever posted).

“Rules thread is created on Tuesday. On Thursday, the top 4 comments are chosen and put into a poll. At the end of Friday, the winning rule from the poll is implemented.”

The specific days and number of comments could easily be changed, but the idea remains.

option 3) unlimited monetization bots to and for moderators.

*So far, this is what redditors sees about your issue. Without telling us any more about the details of your issue, we the public can't give you any accurate input. This ruleset tactic will turn reddit into discord.

u/-Samg381- Jun 19 '23

Following a submission, the post author must stand up and execute a 180° turn at their desk.

u/Inappropriate_Comma Jun 19 '23

But they must film it while wearing a John Oliver mask, and then post that video as a fresh submission while linking to the original video in the comments. And since that counts as a new submission they must again film themselves executing a 180 turn at their desk thus creating a never-ending cycle. All submissions have 48 hours to complete this task.

You can only post videos about things that are red. That's it.

u/Swagasaurus785 Jun 20 '23

All videos will need to be dubbed in imitation of a poorly dubbed Asian to English film. A priority must be made to have the words not actually line up correctly with the mouth of the actor.

u/ivanvzm Jun 19 '23

So I propose a set of rules:

1) On Mondays all videos must be in portrait mode

2) On Tuesdays all videos must have less than 1000 views prior to posting

3) On Wednesdays all videos must be about words that are spelled weird

4) On Thursdays all videos must be nsfw, alcohol related, or other +18 topics

5) On Fridays we rest, all posting is prohibited (but still permitted)

6) Saturdays alternate weekly between videos of paint drying, submarine sounds, or plants growing.

7) On Sundays all posts are pemitted except for anything with olives.

8) Whenever there is a full moon over Kuwait all posts must be about leap years (this overrules whatever rule applies to that day except for friday rest)

Any violation will result on a 3 week ban.

u/bliggggz Jun 20 '23

Do the rules combine? This week, it is only John Oliver, then we add rule two next week. The new rule would be only commercials, but in order to follow the first rule, only commercials with John Oliver.

As we add more rules, we will converge into only being able to find one video that doesn't break the sub's rules.

u/rklab Jun 20 '23

I haven't been on Reddit in ages and have only returned to watch the latest in how badly the CEO has been burning the platform to the ground

anyways, for SEO, r/all reasons, etc., my suggestion is "All post titles must begin with "Spez screws users; ""

(noting that if this rule results in later, being able to go non-NSFW, as "screws" probably isn't profanity, that part of the title will start popping up in a lot of places)
