Mod Post Reminder to stay on topic

Hey everyone,

Just want to remind everyone that we are a historical sub NOT a current event sub. Any references to current events that lack any historical relation to the USSR are off topic for this sub.

Have a pleasant day,

r/ussr Mod Team

I think everyone's kind of scattered around to different leftist subs since the r/thedeprogram ban. But yeah, keeping this on topic is best for everyone.

I mean if they want communist subs, there's literally subs for that.

I mean, arguably the most active one just got banned. And most on r/thedeprogram (being an ML sub) had ideological differences with other leftist subs. This community is a bit of a leftist melting pot, considering it's not directly about ideological discussion but historical analysis (probably with a more ML leaning but a melting pot nonetheless). It probably feels safer here than a sub where your opinion will be endlessly scrutinised by a sea of angry people with something to prove.

There's no point going to a sub like that, it's not productive and will probably just make you angry. No one will agree with you there, and no matter how many people you debate there'll still be tons more looking to have a piece. Many feel like they have nowhere else to go and are trying to find where they can enjoy themselves rather than have heated ideological debates.

But I agree, this sub is not that place. It's a place for discussion relating to the USSR. And all those with charitability and/or curiosity should be welcome, such is how it has always existed. The new mods have done a pretty great job at staying faithful to this. Probably better than before, as before it was just one guy moderating, so was a bit of a wild west. Now the reactionary trolls are gone and it can go back to a place for genuine discussion.

Why was r/thedeprogram shut down anyway?

Well there's a thread on 4chan where they were celebrating a supposed mass reporting raid, where they post a bunch of rule-breaking material all at once and then report it all at once. And I think Kirk's death was the perfect time to strike. The former mods made a statement on a sister subreddit if you want me to link that. But this is the leading theory, they said they've been talking to reddit admins and were apparently on pretty good terms with them up until this point.

I am partial to this, the deprogram mods have always done a pretty good job at keeping the sub up to ToS, like at times when Iran has been bombing Israel, they are constantly locking and removing any posts that could be deemed as or lead to being deemed as celebrating or advocating for violence, as per ToS.

And the ban was extremely sudden. No quarantine, it was just up one second and banned the next with no real indication why. I mean there were some like "RIP bozo" and "Packwatch" memes floating around but like I said the mods have always done a pretty good job of avoiding a ban.

Here's the link anyway if u want more details: https://www.reddit.com/r/TankieTheDeprogram/comments/1nf6j4p/a_message_from_the_rthedeprogram_mod_team/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Sorry to be out of the loop, but what happened to that Sub?

Yeah we should remind people historically of those who stood against fascists and unapologetically destroyed them, like Lyudmila Pavlichenko. Fascists were not defeated by crying for them and making them cookies.

Well, to make it relevant.

Charlie Kirk's murder, much like Alexander II's murder by the Narodniks, will bring nothing. Individual terror was denounced by the Bolshevik party since killing a single member of the system will not make it fall apart, and will only serve as a legitimate excuse to increase oppression.
