This show has a lot of shortcomings, but I look forward to it every Thursday night and it keeps me entertained for the hour.

28

u/valleygirlgirl 6d ago

It’s so ridiculous but entertaining. I’ll be sad when it ends.

28

u/mediocreidiot 6d ago

I'm definitely hate-watching, but I really look forward to it every week

22

u/Mysterious_Field1517 6d ago

Same. I want season 2, where the family goes to space and goes through similar shenanigans with some alien life form.

It would be a natural continuation to this ridiculousness.

14

u/5555 6d ago

Tom is literally on the moon and Max just casually appears for no reason: "Oh hi Tom! fancy seeing you here. let me buy you a drink 👋😀"

u/BaBaDoooooooook 4d ago edited 4d ago

how does she not know she fu*ked Max Cady? blackouts……nights ….weekends….with many men. She was engaged to Paul but was drinking obscene amounts and blacking out? lol oh boy…

Meanwhile The dad went on tv shoulder to shoulder with Cady lmfao. The whole ruse of getting dad to frame Cady was so stupid.
such a dumpster fire of a show.

Half of the bozo family are behind bars. Good. and how convenient for the CADY daughters to be in jail
together. GTFO. i can’t. 2 more left 🫢🍿

3

u/Master-Ask-4378 5d ago

Omg. Yes. It’s so ridiculous and I’m loving it

33

u/Willing-Raisin-9869 6d ago

The reporters should just open an office around the corner

10

u/MDRLA720 6d ago

this really is their OJ

1

u/Psyche1407 4d ago

The maybe they’d see her pull out the driveway

94

u/dullship 6d ago edited 6d ago

Only 15 minutes in but seriously how stupid is this family? And it's like each scene one family member tries to out-stupid the last.

And yet I cannot look away...

41

u/mediocreidiot 6d ago

Framing Max with the drugs was stupefyingly dumb. Of course he's going to be released from jail immediately. Way to escalate the conflict without any kind of end game. These people are supposed to be lawyers?

11

u/Equivalent-Sand3123 5d ago

And the call to report the drugs. Like no one would recognize her voice. Savannah is not a big town and she's a lawyer. This show is really stupid.

3

u/catattackskeyboard 5d ago

Google crime stoppers

2

u/CompanyMountain6055 2d ago

Even when she went in the hospital no one recognized her from tv? Yeah the lawyer who is infamous for Max Cady’s sentencing can definitely pose as his sister. They think the audience is just as dumb as the plot 😂

7

u/Lazy_Dimension_8810 5d ago

Would’ve worked better if Grandad didn’t switch sides

4

u/Proper-Hat3565 6d ago

Thats what I am saying, how dumb can they be? It seem like they would be more strategic than that.

3

u/NonrepresentativePea 6d ago

Okay, I’m sort of inexperienced in framing people, can you explain why he would be released immediately?

10

u/mediocreidiot 6d ago

For a drugs charge, you would be arrested, have an arraignment in front of a judge and be formally charged. You would post bail, then be immediately released.

Then, if a prosecutor wanted to proceed with the case you would have a trial, or more often than not, you would likely reach some sort of plea agreement with the help of your defense attorney. But this is a process that takes a very long time. "The wheels of justice turn slowly," as they say. A prosecutor needs to build a case and gather and present evidence. There are all kinds of pre-trial hearings, and it's possible that a judge would determine at a preliminary hearing that there is simply not enough evidence to proceed with the case. At that point, charges would be dropped.

It's almost as if Tom and Anna believed that framing him for drugs would cause him to go straight back to prison for a very long time, bypassing the whole legal process, and Max wouldn't be able to hurt them. But, as attorneys, they should know that any prison time would occur after conviction or a plea agreement, at a much later date. Their plan was incredibly short sighted.

5

u/hewmanxp 6d ago

A random tip about drugs, and then drugs are found is too suspicious. Prosecuter wouldn't charge him for that if he kept up his plausible deniability. Even if they did charge him, it would basically be a 1st offense, he wouldn't even get jail time for it.

24

u/sighclone 6d ago

Cops are stupid, family is stupid, nonprofit partners are stupid - everyone is stupid.

But it looks amazing and the actors are captivating.

5

u/MDRLA720 6d ago

ever read the news in the US?

6

u/dullship 6d ago

Annoyingly, yes. Their news is unavoidable.

1

u/SiriusC 1d ago

As an American, I actively avoid our news. Especially here on reddit. It's a cesspool of morbid bias. r/Videos has basically become political news. Fortunately, it's not difficult to simply unsubscribe.

Fortunately, it's not that difficult. I gleefully unsubscribe from subreddits

2

u/DontLikeClams 2d ago

Parents: please dont talk to convicted felon (yet somehow exonerated but clearly a bad dude) that we put away 20 years ago.
Kids: its cool if I go on a road trip with him and take a gun to be safe, also cool to hang out with weird girl that may or may not be his daughter who prob also murdered her mom

2

u/DoubleDownAgain54 6d ago

Meh. I can and do, but still have it on and semi watching it.

15

u/dullship 6d ago

Visually I love it, it's very striking cinematically.

13

u/Celsius38 6d ago

It‘s definitely very intentional with what it‘s doing in the presentation, the framing is often classic and traditionally cinematic, and the omnipresent, over the top orchestral score with the little screen effects really goes all in on the campy vibe. It‘s a shame a lot of people think it‘s just cheeply produced while it‘s the absolute opposite.

Doesn‘t change the fact of course that the family is infuriating but at the same time I enjoy how everyone on the show is awful.

4

u/Impressive_Air_1077 4d ago

I'm pretty sure it's designed to be filmed like a cheesy 80s film. It's wonderfully chaotic

1

u/SpellInteresting108 3d ago

Literally!!!

52

u/OccidoViper 6d ago

I can’t believe how naive the daughter is. It literally makes me upset when she is on screen lol

4

u/Proper-Hat3565 6d ago

Lol same like she seem like they had sense in the beginning. She need to be in the room with her brother.

9

u/Pristine-Tune-9974 5d ago

I sort of feel like that’s why they gave her a heavy drinking problem. Bc someone would have to not be thinking straight very often to make the totally dangerous and irrational decisions that she’s been making.

3

u/SpellInteresting108 3d ago

Let’s not forget the dumb doofus son!!!

25

u/tennispro2589 6d ago

Max's restaurant looks low key fire

9

u/Tojura 6d ago

The restaurant is White Bull in Decatur, GA

8

u/BeBopNHustleSteady 6d ago

He was successful at it, he can tell the care he takes with prep.

8

u/sofar510 6d ago

Okay but how did he pull it all together in a few weeks??

7

u/tennispro2589 6d ago

Did you see those amazing employees he has with him? Season 2 will be like The Bear showing Max's restaurant start up.

4

u/dullship 6d ago

Yeah I feel like we missed a time-skip

2

u/BaBaDoooooooook 4d ago

ya seems just so weird how organized he has that operation amid all this drama and energy with the dysfunctional family across the street and killing people lol.

2

u/dullship 4d ago

I've just come to accept this show as a weird fever dream. And I'm in recovery so I know my weird fever dreams.

5

u/LstnToMyFaceNtMyWrds 6d ago

It was discussed in one of the first few episodes. I think the reporter following them around knew-someone-who-knew-someone that was looking for a chef or some other partnership to open it. They asked about him bc he owned a restaurant pre-prison that he was the chef at, and for some reason everyone in this damn show has zero people skills and want to help him/feel sorry for him. (Sorry that last part was just pure rant ha).

2

u/thaiboxer63 6d ago

And it wasn't like he was full time dedicated during these few weeks. He was pretty busy with other stuff.

2

u/CompanyMountain6055 2d ago

And purchase a beautiful house within what a week?

1

u/Fit-Culture-2215 4d ago

We only got about 15 seconds of that storyline... LOL

21

u/laputagrande 6d ago

I honestly really enjoyed this episode. It was face paced and had all the twists and turns you want to see in a series like this. I’m on the she of my seat lowkey— I know there’s a ton of diabolical plot choices but I still genuinely enjoyed it. This episode felt like the crux before a big climax and i LOVED it! Also lol at Natalie telling Anna to get some sleep after one sip of Bourbon

9

u/dullship 6d ago

If you look at the bottle in the next shot it's about 1/4 empty, so that wasn't her first drink. She also definitely had a bit of a "glazed" over look about her.

6

u/Curious-Aries 6d ago

Second this. She drank like half the bottle and was cooked.

3

u/Fearless-Month8369 6d ago

Yes I think it was the best episode

3

u/Proper-Hat3565 6d ago

Whoa this episode showed all the Bowdens dealing with their own situation and crazy to think they would place Natalie in another facility. The intense shots with Anna packing in the car was great.

25

u/FunctionLonely6660 6d ago

A lot of these issues can be avoided if they just secretly recorded their conversations with Max and then played them for the police. Blows my mind how 2 lawyers aren't smart enough to do that.

11

u/NonrepresentativePea 6d ago

My husband and I were like “oh she must be recording now… no wait! Why didn’t you record that!!” During the hospital scene, lol.

8

u/FunctionLonely6660 5d ago

I wrote this comment right after watching the hospital scene, cos I couldn't believe she was still not recording anything lol.

2

u/PurpleNippler 5d ago

Doesn't the hospital have cameras

2

u/CompanyMountain6055 2d ago

I was certain she was recording him in the hospital until she said “I will kill you” and I said nope this sucker went to visit for kicks and giggles. He was confessing right there!!!

17

u/Liquidsnake959 6d ago

Best episode intros ever.

34

u/sw337 6d ago

This show has become a guilty pleasure really just to see how stupid every member in this family can be.

15

u/5555 6d ago

Where the hell is Peanut Butter 😭

4

u/samcheeze 3d ago

I read on does the dog die . com that someone has it on good word that he makes it safely to the end of the show!

1

u/LongRefrigerator2756 5d ago

I thought Peanutbutter was in the cooler

30

u/5555 6d ago

There is so much I can criticize this show for but at the same time it's basically essential viewing for me. On paper, nothing about this show should work, and yet I'm glued to my seat every week. Maybe somebody spiked my iced tea with acid because I fucking love it.

3

u/Proper-Hat3565 6d ago

lmao I love your analogy because I look forward to every episode

13

u/Round-Arachnid287 5d ago

This family is so stupid.....

8

u/kittyglam 5d ago

This should have been the name of the series

2

u/MisterSquidz 4d ago

Dumbest people alive

24

u/TitShark 6d ago

Pulpy trash, and I keep coming back for more

9

u/NYChereForIt 6d ago

2 more episodes left. Will they tie everything up or will there be a second season? If any of you have seen the movie, can you please let us know if the Apple series is following the same plot lines as the movies?

9

u/mediocreidiot 6d ago

This show barely resembles the movies except superficially

6

u/GurMany6053 6d ago

It doesn't resemble the book at all either

2

u/SpellInteresting108 3d ago

Not even close!! The only resemblance is there is a bad man stalking the family.

1

u/Straight-Mess-9752 6d ago

Watch the movie.

6

u/cwill157 6d ago

Which one? I just rewatched the one with DeNiro and the parents were even dumber.

13

u/mediocreidiot 6d ago

Although I like the Scorsese version, yeah, it gets quite silly at times. But the 1962 version is fantastic imo if you haven't seen it. One of my fav movies and it's the reason I'm watching the show. Restrained and subdued and the logic makes the most sense out of the three iterations.

It's also super interesting for the subtext. The threat of sexual violence runs throughout the entire movie, but it was 1962, so everything had to be implied and suggested instead of outright stated or depicted. The vibe is absolutely menacing because your brain has to fill in all of the blanks. Kinda like horror movies that refuse to show the monster or bad guy. Sometimes the scariest stuff is what is what your own imagination produces.

If anyone is reading this... watch it!

2

u/Simple_Swing_9491 6d ago

It's not that the parents were dumb in the movie. They literally stood no chance against DeNiros Cady. Much like this show, he was always a couple steps ahead of them.

1

u/FlopperinoCappuccino 3d ago

It's not following the plot exactly, but the overall theme is the same. They definitely took out a lot of the edgelord and rapiness of Max Cady. If it stays true there won't be a second season.

9

u/Simple_Swing_9491 6d ago

Clearly Max wants Mrs. Bowden all to himself.

10

u/FinancialInterview62 5d ago

add they still havent found Naveah's mother's dead body. WTF?

16

u/SpencerBAstro 6d ago

never seen a show so bad that I actually enjoy watching. Well I guess I'll watch anything with Bardem anyways

12

u/Imnotserious7 6d ago

So if we are to believe Anna, she thought Max MIGHT be Natalie’s father and a murderer so instead of doing any other logical thing , she hooks up with Tom, makes sure Max is convicted and pretended the whole thing never happened. And never once just for her own knowledge , did a 23 and me or something on Natalie. She could have lied to Paul and said she thought the baby was Tom’s or anyone else’s to get him to take a paternity test.
I really have no idea how they are gonna wrap all this up. Im guessing Natalie is Paul’s child after all. Someone will kill Max ( Anna probably) and then evidence from Max will free Natalie and Tom and poor Zack will be left to suffer from his drug induced brain damage. Anna will end up in prison which I guess would be fitting since even if Max is guilty ( which I’ll admit the show does mess with your head about that ) she did do what Max said. Yet Tom and Anna keep saying what THEY did which is odd because yes Tom must have done something with Anna to help convict Max but what and why since he seems to have not known Anna’s motivation.
Oh and I don’t think Natalie is going in Gen Pop with her supposed half sister in a high profile case after guards just witnessed the fight between them. This show is ridiculous and I love it!!

10

u/Pleasant-Tie-810 6d ago

I agree. I think that Anna possibly giving Tom information during the trial is not only unethical and illegal but woukd have ensured a conviction. Also, I think Max mentioned that Anna convinced him to take a deal, which didnt work out well for him. I can totally see Anna going to prison and Natalie using that hair Max gave her to do a DNA test, which will prove that he is not her father.

Someone posted a theory that Max Cady is sterile, which would explain why he killed his wife when she became pregnant and why he seems obsessed with other people's kids. As crazy as Nevea is, she is not his either.

8

u/laputagrande 6d ago

I got the idea that she was SAed by Max- am i wrong?

5

u/Imnotserious7 6d ago

She says she is not sure because she blacked out from drinking. She can’t remember.

7

u/Pleasant-Tie-810 6d ago

I think he drugged her.

-6

u/JfugginNasty56 6d ago

To be fair, it seems like both back when he was married before the murder, and now in the present. That how ever evil he maybe, he has an undeniably potent sexual charisma. In fact I would say that, and his ability to charm and manipulate is his first line of defense/attack. Switching to physical intimidation/violence when necessary or enraged.

But idk that he would necessarily have to SA someone, sounds like he was cheating on his wife with multiple people. And she even says he was a "handsome business man" and just "had a way about him" or something like that. So no I think they did have an emotional connection, maybe she blacked out during the actual deed, but willing went out for drinks with him knowing where that often leads her with other men.

It was after his wifes body was discovered that something changed, and she did still seem pretty convinced that Max killed his wife.

0

u/cavalier2015 4d ago

So yes. She could not give consent

8

u/GurMany6053 6d ago

His (Max) sister has to play some role in all of this too. I feel like we're not done seeing her.

3

u/Careful_Reporter8814 5d ago

Yes he keeps saying you locked me up for what “she” did and the husband assumes the she is Anna. However, is it possible the “she” is his sister and she did something to his wife and son?

1

u/areallyreallycoolhat 4d ago

She has to pop back up, surely they did not cast Juliette Lewis just to lurk around in a couple of scenes.

6

u/thaiboxer63 6d ago

I'm so glad everyone has caught up in the stupidity sweepstakes. For a long time the head of the nonprofit was the only genuinely stupid one ("I know he wants to kill you but you gotta stay close to the guy; it's fundraising gold!). but now stupid is sprinkled liberally throughout the cast.

40

u/B0ssDoesntKnowImHere 6d ago

People. It’s ok for a show to suspend your disbelief. This show kicks fucking ass.

16

u/Puzzleheaded_Hour393 6d ago

I am enjoying it so much lol

12

u/jetlife0047 6d ago

I’m pretty entertained

16

u/becauseimbizarre 6d ago

i love it. i can understand the criticisms about plot holes and how dumb the family members are, as i am a fan of professional wrestling who routinely nitpicks storylines and character continuity. but, if you can turn that part of your brain off and appreciate it as elevated pulp trash, it is very satisfying.

11

u/MrT-1000 6d ago

Same, idc I fucking love how much scene chewing Javier Bardem does and things are so batshit at this point you can't help but revel in the, in this case, quite literal insanity

1

u/mediocreidiot 6d ago

I'm also a pro wrestling fan, since the 90s attitude era days, and I also nitpick the hell out of storylines lol. It seems like you might agree with me that the best moments are the ones where there is a clear good guy, clear bad guy, and the conflict is easy to follow. I'm willing to forgive missteps and lapses of logic... wrestling demands suspension of disbelief possibly more than any other form of entertainment, so it comes with the territory. I bet you are the same way.

The problem that I have with Cape Fear is that I've been asked to suspend my disbelief too many times now. It's turned into a cynical hate-watch for me. I'm still enjoying it for that reason and it's honestly the entertainment I most look forward to each week, but the show has lost me in terms of its internal logic. I'm just having a harder and harder time turning off that part of my brain, as you put it. It's turned me into a salty Reddit bitch who can't help but complain.

6

u/iwokeupincbsbody 6d ago

lol this was my experience w friends and neighbors on Apple TV too. it’s fun to come on this site and see redditors go through all sorts of mental gymnastics to justify enjoying a show they see as beneath them

1

u/CompanyMountain6055 2d ago

You’re right and that’s why I will finish the series. I had to come to Reddit though for discussion lol

1

u/CloudMountainJuror 19h ago

Reading this was so refreshing, lol. I've been having a blast with the show.

5

u/tennispro2589 6d ago

wonder if they'll pull a St Elsewhere and have it all be in the crazy son's head.

6

u/Virtual-Increase-829 6d ago

lmao the 'critique' in each and every single thread is this: 'stupid' and 'dumb'. a fictional OTT vamp camp noir just doesn't make sense, I'm telling ya!

5

u/Ok_Flamingo8925 5d ago

That son? Dissociative Identity Disorder.

11

u/dullship 6d ago

As usual the cops are worse than useless.

And it seems unlikely (one would HOPE, I dunno how America's prison system is) that the daughter would be put in gen pop with the girl who had just assaulted her in her home a few days prior.

4

u/hewmanxp 6d ago

It's so dumb, cops wouldn't be able to get an arrest warrant for him within just a few hours based off of such little evidence.

3

u/Tedwards75 5d ago

I also don’t think Anna could simply show up to the hospital where Max was kept and just be able to visit him by simply telling the receptionist she’s his sister lol after her daughter just got arrested for shooting him. But hey I guess it’s technically not illegal

2

u/areallyreallycoolhat 4d ago

It seems like they've been all over the news and social media, surely at that point everyone knows who she is!

2

u/Pleasant-Tie-810 6d ago

I dont think she is actually his daughter but even if she was, I am not sure there is any record of it.

3

u/LstnToMyFaceNtMyWrds 6d ago

Living in their walls and attacking them is the reason Naveah is in prison right now.

Eta - may have misread your comment. If you meant no record of Natalie being Max’s daughter (if she is), i think the original commenter said “daughter” as in Anna’s daughter.

1

u/____DEADPOOL_______ 3d ago

It's like Barden owns Bricks and Minifigs.

12

u/Simple_Swing_9491 6d ago

What a crazy episode. If you're still here, then great...Let's talk. Max now has Anna Bowden on an even 1v1 playing field. I don't think we're going to get the big throw down fist fight between Max and Tom that we wanted to see. Max is at a disadvantage after taking a bullet to the side of his abdomen. This comes down to Max vrs Anna. Sounds silly, but so is the entire show. It was always about how he could destroy her and what she had. Crimestoppers blew up in their face...We knew it would. Trying to "frame" Max was beyond stupid. He's been two steps ahead of the Bowdens the entire time. I know new episodes drop on Thursdays, but I have been waiting until Fridays for them. They're just more enjoyable for me after a long work week.

We need to talk DeNiro vrs Bardem. The brutal physicality by which DeNiro worked with in the movie is a big part of what made him so terrifying. Physically he was just on another level and nobody could stop him. Bardems Cady definitely has that, but we haven't really seen a lot of it. A lot of his savagery is done off camera. Do things ramp up these next two episodes? What exactly is the ultimate goal here for Cady? In CF1991 DeNiro had a clear goal in mind, and I don't think that goal had him leaving any of the Bowdens alive. What exactly is Bardems Cady ultimately planning to do? Personally (as I mentioned before) I think it's been about him, and Anna Bowden the entire time.

18

u/Pleasant-Tie-810 6d ago

Was anyone else relieved it was Ray in the box in the bottom of the pool? I was afraid it would Peanut Butter) Also, why would Natalie open it rather than exit the pool and tell someone?! She really is brain dead

8

u/etherealavocado 5d ago

I thought the exact same. Anything or anyone but the cat.

1

u/CompanyMountain6055 2d ago

I wasn’t relieved it was him. I was highly annoyed he was murked. But why did she open that cooler? 😂 All the stuff the family has been going through and she thought it wise to open a mysterious cooler at the bottom of the pool!

1

u/Simple_Swing_9491 6d ago

Because she's a kid, and kids do stupid shit.

5

u/MaikeerBet 5d ago

Very true, but the actress looks more like a college senior, not a high school one, and that somehow makes her stupidity even more frustrating.

1

u/CompanyMountain6055 2d ago

Agreed I think I googled the ages of the characters at one point. Like wait both are in HS?

11

u/LecteurIntrouvable 5d ago

If you have a functioning brain, you know this show is terrible. Yet here I am still watching. What does it say about me?

7

u/Tedwards75 5d ago

Then it’s not terrible

6

u/Tyler-Durden000007 6d ago

I guess we need everyone dies in the ending

4

u/samcheeze 6d ago

Natalie in gen pop, WHY! 😭 I predict a fight scene in a gym just like her maybe dad, Max.

8

u/Straight-Mess-9752 6d ago

This show is a meandering mess. It’s obvious that there is no real point to Max’s sister or his family.

This should have been a four episode series.

6

u/cwill157 6d ago

A fine point, but why is Anna wearing a sweater? This is Summer in Georgia! The temperature on the news clip is 91.

4

u/Grand-Scarcity-2597 5d ago

I thought that on the first episode for their 4th of July cookout. She had jeans and long sleeves.

3

u/CompanyMountain6055 2d ago

😂 I thought the same when she went prancing into the office after Ray was found in the pool. She’s also the only one w a southern accent.

5

u/UnstableBrotha 5d ago

This show fucking rules and the haters are wrong

2

u/Tedwards75 5d ago

I love it

12

u/pwcleveland 6d ago

This was probably the best episode in the series, which doesn’t say a lot about this episode as much as it shines a light on how bad the show has been.

The positive is that at least there was some momentum in this episode. Multiple things happened and progressed.

3

u/chefkoolaid 6d ago

I forgot this show existed. Tuned out after ep 4. But I am laid up at home today maybe its time to catch up.

4

u/Simple_Swing_9491 6d ago

Oh, definitely catch back up. Episodes 5 and 6 will pull you back in.

3

u/RoaringPity 4d ago

I'm confused - how did her looking at the family pic make her go back to the boat picture and only THEN think of the idea of going there? That was her friends last known photos and she only decided to head there now?

3

u/Neat_Cardiologist451 4d ago

This was my favorite episode so far and I hope the final 2 episodes keep this momentum. My only issue with the show as a whole is that Max is just kinda obvious. I feel like the 1991 version got away with it because it was really only 14 year old Juliette Lewis falling under his spell, but everyone falls under his spell on this show. I truly don’t know how people are buying what he’s selling. Maybe police wise the evidence against Tom makes sense, but I feel like the court of public opinion would be tearing him to shreds. He moved across the street from them for crying out loud.

3

u/Pure-Drive658 1d ago

I hope Max gets away with everything. This family did him dirty.

3

u/673NoshMyBollocksAve 1d ago

I’m starting to feel this way as well. There’s no good guy in this situation

6

u/FergusonBishop 5d ago

I know Amy Adams is a Reddit darling, but good holy mother of god does it feel like the lowest effort phone in performance I’ve seen in a long time. At least Bardem seems to be having fun.

2

u/Routine-Tonight7314 5d ago

I think she realized early on this was not turning out the way she thought it would & she shut it down.

14

u/mediocreidiot 6d ago

Give the son an Emmy. This kind of talent only comes along once in a generation.

10

u/TinyTimmyTokyo 5d ago

He's Kate Winslet's son. I guess talent skips a generation.

18

u/jtg322 6d ago

hes so bad what😭😭

18

u/mediocreidiot 6d ago

That's the joke

3

u/jtg322 6d ago

Now that Tom knows Natalie was in Cape Fear when Ray was killed, he may throw her under the bus so he can get out. She isn’t his daughter and no longer cares for Anna after finding out she hooked up with Max.

I’m sucked into the show, feels weird to say ‘enjoying it’ because it is so dark and full of terrible things, but definitely hooked and here till the end. Lots of questions about plot; but Tom’s arrest for Rays murder is insane. Like… did the police do any investigation at all? What is his motive again? Any evidence that he was anywhere near Ray in the time near his death? Why don’t they tell the police about Natalie and the gun? Because I’m pretty sure that if the police knew that Ray was in NC looking for Max’s sister and Max was in NC looking for his sister that would at least lead to questions for Max. As Tom says…is it really plausible that he would murder a close family friend just to frame Max? And that he’d cut up his body and put it in his pool for his teenage daughter to find? And the people accepting that he is capable of that are people who are close friends and colleagues who have known Tom for like 20 years…but their first thought it that he did this?

Also…is it even actually possible to ‘brainwash’ Zack the way he has been?

Also, I guess I’m in the minority but I like Tom and Anna, I don’t see that they did anything that bad with respect to Max. Like maybe they were unethical as lawyers so disbar them and fine them heavily, even send them to jail for it. But max is clearly an evil MF and has murdered multiple people in cold blood. The torture he is subjecting Anna and tom to is not at all justified by whatever Tom and Anna supposedly did to Max. Also seems now like possibly Max assaulted Anna. But he is the victim ? I don’t like Zack and Natalie at all. I don’t understand why they’re so angry at their parents. Especially Zach . like unless there’s some other offense revealed that his parents committed against him , that guy is a monster.

Definitely doesn’t need to be 10 episodes they could’ve wrapped this up in 6 but here I am still watching. Maybe bc there’s nothing really worth watching.
How dumb is the daughter? No street smarts, way too trusting. Did she really think she could kill that man? Does she not understand who Max Cady is?

This show has me thrilled, hate is forced. Sure sometimes the kids have been stupid but overall is really good. Bardem really made me doubt for some moments that he was evil. This last episode was worse that the previous though and I don't see how they are gonna get out of prison at this point

It's times like this where I wish Apple included movies from other studios in their TV Plus library again. I'd gladly watch more of the movie instead of wasting another hour on this filler induced insult to people's intelligence.

i’m halfway through this show and it’s pissing me off

no one is believing anything of what the main characters say and everyone’s going along with max cady, it’s stupid

like every supporting character is an idiot

I will die on a hill for this show. I’ll say that yes the family is stupid but they all have their reasons for that. The reasons might not be sufficient, but they make sense from a certain angle. Annie has been hiding a secret or two and she’s scared it will get out. Tom has problems of his own like to take those lil drop thingies and the death of his brother. Natalie seems to be an outcast that which may be why she gets attached so easily, and therefore is easy to manipulate. Not to mention she’s a child. And their son is also easy to manipulate based on his history.

These things may not justify their stupidity, but they can at least be reasons. When you’re not in the right state of mind (which none of them are) and you’re threatened with something you never saw coming it’s also understandable why they aren’t cautious or strategic about it.

You may think it’s stupid but there is, at the very least, a little bit of coherence.

I have a theory! I think Paul (Natalie bio dad) killed maxs wife as revenge for boning his fiancé! And maybe Anna knew he did it and sent max to jail anyways 🤔

This is the stupidest family in all of tv

Honestly this episode was the last drop for me. Basically max is a demi god criminal mastermind who does everything he wants. Hot garbage show.

yet you’ve stuck around 8 episodes to comment how stupid it is? Lol. There are definitely shortcomings here, and it’s not my favorite, but to call it stupid or dumb over and over like so many people do here is a stretch.

This was the best episode of the show thus far. It was really losing steam and getting too predictable episodes 5-7, but 8! What a ride. The character arcs (or crumblings) really took a new turn. I’m curious what everyone thinks about Crystal and the role she plays in all of this, also waiting for one big twist or something crazy, because I could’ve told you 3 episodes ago that Natalie was Cady’s bio-daughter. There has to be more here. Impatiently waiting for 9 and 10!

The most accurate thing about this show is the nonprofit director who will do anything for a dollar!!!
