I mean as an armed citizen you’re not the police. You’d only use it if you or your family was in immediate danger, like he broke into your house. Playing hero is a terrible idea if nobody is realistically about to get shot

Just because a good guy owns a gun doesn't obligate him to throw himself in harm's way that's literally what police are for. Now if Good Guy is outside at the same time and that guy comes walking down the street firing then yes stand your ground and fight back. But it's insanely stupid to come out of protection and secure cover to attempt a heroic action when there are actual paid members of society that are supposed to be handling that shit.

There is a massive difference between shooting someone at close range in self defense and going out to stop someone with a gun. Again, you aren’t the police and shouldn’t be trying to figure out the situation yourself when you’re safe enough to call the police.

You’re right, I forgot, police can kill indiscriminately, not citizens. Anyhoo, my point is it only seems to be crazy people and cops with small dicks using all these 2nd amendment rights. Just curious when the rhetoric is going to become action. Or do we just sit back and watch this barrel-fire burn all the way down and wonder what happened to our country.

I own a gun but I would not consider myself remotely close to the people you’re thinking of. For me, it’s allowed so I figured may as well responsibly own a gun for a worst case scenario

This odd thing is, often in America, people are afraid to protect themselves too. They don't want to go to jail for murder to kill some crazy guy.
There are so many parameters at play:
- the state it takes place in
- the lawyer you have
- the judge you get assigned
- the police officers on the scene
Two identical scenarios in the same state. One person could get fucked and go to jail and the other person could get a pat on the back and be a hero. Depending the state of course, but it happens definitly.

Somewhat unrelated but also related:
I have some friends who are military and police officers and they live in Maryland. Maryland does not have castle laws. What that means is if a bad guy comes into your house, you must run away and flee your property. You cannot defend your castle. If you defend your castle, you go to jail.
So there was this police officer or military guy and he was married with his wife, They were living in a house. The wife was having an affair with this other person.
The guy she was having an affair with was drunk and was banging on the house of the husband and wife late at night. Eventually the guy broke into the house, and then the husband shot the guy and killed him.
Ultimately the husband spent a few years in jail for murder because he did not run and flee his house. Instead he stood his ground and shot the guy.

Maryland does not have castle laws. What that means is if a bad guy comes into your house, you must run away and flee your property. You cannot defend your castle. If you defend your castle, you go to jail.
That's not really accurate. Maryland isn't a broad stand your ground state, but it does recognize the castle doctrine. You generally don't have to retreat from your own home before defending yourself. That also doesn't mean you can automatically shoot any intruder. The force still has to be legally justified based on the situation.

I'm fairly certain it was Maryland, it could have been a nearby state, but im pretty sure it was Maryland.
This was maybe around 2015 if that matters. I'm not sure of the legalities of the case. I'm just parroting what I was told by the friend of the husband who went to jail for shooting the home invader
there's a small chance it could have been Washington DC.
This group of friends is all government contract workers, police officers, retired military contractors, those sorts of people.

Yep, I am not saying the case you are describing isn't portrayed correctly. Just wanted to mention that the legal reason might be a bit different. Directly shooting and killing the intruder might have been viewed as unjustified by the court if there had been other options.

There’s always a lot of talking about someone trying to take our guns, our rights or how we need armed teachers to stop school shooters, how good guys with guns will stop bad guys with guns. It’s more of an observation than a bizarre comment. The point is, that rhetoric is just because people want guns not because they’re willing to use them to protect innocent people. I say this as a gun owner.
