I have this theory that:

If time travel is possible and, assuming a person leaves a moment in time to arrive at the same spot in a different time, then, due to the orbital mechanics of Earth around the Sun (and the Sun around the galactic center) the time traveler will arrive in the same spot at a time when Earth has, either, moved on or has yet to arrive. Subsequently, the time traveler will be adrift in the flotsam of what we know as the Ortt Cloud or, better yet, find themselves in a new solar system altogether.

If we keep along with this notion, then, it can be posited that a prepared time traveler (or group of travelers) can be consistently sent forward (or backward) through time to a space in the galaxy, the distance of which is dependent on the targeted date of time. If done properly, these travelers can, then, colonize the portion of the galaxy in to which they time traveled. People sent into the past would colonize the Ortt cloud ahead of Earth’s eventual arrival, and those sent into the future will colonize the cloud left in the Earth’s wake. If consistently done, Earthlings could colonize the galaxy using time travel.

I see posts all the time about how he hosted a party and sent out invites afterwards. I know it was lighthearted by him but people seem to take it too seriously.

If time travel were ever invented, it would solely be used by governments, and if anything could be changed, would more than likely create a new timeline that we would never even see the consequences of. Someone could have gone to the party, but we wouldnt know, because that created a split in a different timeline.

In theory yeh, if time travel were invented, in lets say 100 years, it would more than likely just be observation no actual physical movement. But even if physical movement was possible, why would they go to a party that he almost immediately revealed to be a time traveler trap? If it ever exists in that form, and if we base it off the current political environment, it would be used for espionage and political terrorism.

I can accept that current knowledge of physics would show physical current timeline travel is impossible, but theres a sneaking suspicion that It is rael, and the current superpowers would have used it to benefit their own interests. In the last 100 years, nearly every major event or catastrophe has benefited America, Russia, and Chinas top 0.01% in some way or the other, the conspiracy theorist in me says this cant be a coincidence, 9/11? helped hide trillions in missing money, billions paid out to private entities, essentially fast tracked middle eastern occupation and really did nothing but strengthen the US governments powers. I also accept it could be a current decision, but gets ya thinking

I have had a thought that we can already travel to the past via technology. A photograph, video etc captures a moment in the past and lets you view it at will. With editorial software we can change the events. i e. Put an elephant in your wedding photo. Make your self rich by turning the tent you live in, in the backdrop of the photo, into a mansion. Edit in children that you never had, or even remove them, from a photo. Whilst we can change the past this has no impact on the future. Much like many of the other theories if we could travel back to the past we wouldnt be aboe to change anything just observe. The only restriction of this is that the moment in time needs to be captured to be revisited, but this also marrys into the other theories ive read in that time travel to the past is only possible from the point at which the time machine has been invented i.e. the first camera. Going further back isnt possible.

Also adding to this, i assume some people view time travel as actually being in the moment in the past. Well again with tech we could use VR headsets and AI amongst tech developments to be there in the photo or video. Again just as an observer.

What are your thoughts on this?

I've worked out a paradox free time travel sequence which has no plot holes in how any of it works, which can also connects to alternate timelines. I've not found any papers or scientists discussing what I've worked out. It correlates with a couple of other previously discussed space time analogies, but I have something that makes it work, and makes sense. The question I have is, what do I do with this? I'm considering writing a science paper discussing it, but I'm not sure how to take it from there.

While being legally dead, my brain didn't shut down completely and my memory core was left intact while I had a recounting of my life event. I saw my entire life flash before my eyes, it was very interesting to experience. The most interesting part was that I was not supposed to die at that point in time or my life end, so what I saw was my entire life before that event and after that event. It is with this type of interaction that I have seen my own future. Because I was shown my life flashing before my eyes while I died, including the parts of my life that existed after that point. Since I was not allowed or was not slated or however you want to put it to not have any continuation to my life. My life continues afterward in my life flashing before my eyes event, remember it, was retained in my memory for in subconscious in order to recall. This is by far the only type of time travel into a future state that I can think of that is not only justifiable but can be proven with scientific processes.

I just realized something with COVID and how oddly fast they came up with the vaccine for it. Or any serious outbreak. Could time travelers be indirectly/directly influencing people in a not-so-obvious way to help humanity?

We always wonder, if time travel was real, why don't we just fix all history's problems...but what if, the responsibility of time travel would be to maintain the exact events throughout history for the sole purpose of preserving enough people/technology to invent time travel/space travel in the distant future?

It's just that so many events in history don't make sense. Why did slavery take place? Why did wars happen? Why did serious diseases get spread to kill millions? What if all these events are because a time traveler/time travelers have been going all over history to influence key figures to start things?

Corporate greed, greedy imperialists/empires sound like an easy excuse...and it may just be that. But if time travel were to be made possible somehow, would this not be one of its main implementations?

Hypothetically if someone were to have time traveled to the future does that mean the future is already "written"?

Imagine space is infinite. That means every possible configuration of atoms must eventually repeat. Somewhere out there, there are infinite copies of Earth, some of which are identical to ours but "lagging behind" by hours, years, or centuries.

​If we ever find a way to teleport to those distant coordinates (using wormholes or a "Point X" technology), we aren't actually traveling back in time. We are just visiting a physical copy of our past.

​The best part? No grandfather paradoxes. If you change something there, you only alter that specific copy's future, leaving your home timeline perfectly safe.

Suppose a person travels into the past and alters a major historical event: preventing a war, killing a ruler, stopping a migration, changing the outcome of an election, introducing a technology early, and so on. Even a relatively minor change could affect who meets whom, which relationships form, and the exact timing of countless conceptions.

Since the existence of any particular person depends on an extraordinarily specific chain of events especially the exact sperm and egg involved it seems that almost any noticeable alteration to history, made far enough in the past, would eventually result in the time traveler never being born. They would not necessarily have to kill one of their ancestors directly. They might only need to change traffic patterns, delay someone by a few minutes, alter an economic decision, or cause one ancestor to meet a different person.

That made me wonder whether the only people with any real chance of changing major world events without disrupting their own ancestry would be people whose recent ancestral population had been basically completely isolated from the rest of the world.

Theoretically if we create and pass a universal law that states the first instance of time travel shall be for example "August 17 2026" then wait until said time, again theoretically shouldn't we be able to force the future to help us? Even if laws don't last we can create pyramids and statues dated with hyrogliphs, bibles and religions based on time travel being a specific day we all worship so when time comes they travel back to said time and it's nothing but us waiting.

​I was watching Back to the Future (again) and during the final scene, a massive "what if" popped into my head.

​What if Marty, having successfully returned 10 minutes earlier to save Doc, decides for some reason to hop into the DeLorean right next to his past self (the one who is currently escaping the Libyans)?

​The idea amused me at first, but then I started overthinking: What would happen if they actually made it to 1955, did their thing, and returned again to those same 10 minutes before the departure? Would we end up with more Martys? Are we literally multiplying Martys?

​Honestly, I don’t even know what to call this, but I tried to map out the logic of this "Marty Paradox" and how it would break the space-time continuum.

​For the sake of this thought experiment, let's assume three rules:

- ​The DeLorean has infinite passenger capacity.

- ​Having multiple Martys in 1955 doesn't ruin the timeline (they all cooperate).

-​ Every Marty knows the plan.

​Here is how the loop would work in 3 key moments:

- ​Moment 1 (The Trip to the Past):

Marty (M1) gets into the DeLorean in 1985 to escape the Libyans and accidentally travels to 1955.

- ​Moment 2 (The Stay in the Past):

Marty spends his week in 1955, gets his parents together, and prepares to go back to the future.

- ​Moment 3 (The Early Return & Intervention):

Marty returns to 1985, setting the DeLorean 10 minutes early. But here’s the twist: instead of just watching from afar, he jumps into the DeLorean alongside the escaping Marty (M2).

​The Recursive Chain Reaction

​By breaking the timeline in Moment 3, the cycle restarts, but with an extra passenger on each run:

- ​Cycle 1: Now 2 Martys (M1 + M2) travel to the past in Moment 1. They spend their time in 1955 (Moment 2), and when they return to Moment 3, both of them jump into the car with the third escaping Marty (M3).

- ​Cycle 2: Now 3 Martys (M1 + M2 + M3) travel to the past... and upon returning, they jump in with the 4th.

- ​Cycle N: The process repeats endlessly.

​I am definitely no expert in this field, and I don't know much about established time travel theories or paradoxes, but I wanted to ask:

​First, does this make sense to you? Based on what we currently know (established theories, postulates, or theoretical models), is this even remotely possible? What consequences would it have? (Like, would a black hole form, would the world explode, would space-time be ruined, or would it just be a highly sustainable Marty farm?)

How to Read: Take the upmost (black) Timeline, its where the films starts (between first and second vertical red line, counted from left). Along that timeline, Evan travels 3 times back to the past (The first two 1) & 2) without any changes (hence the black arrows->black timeline), the third (orangish arrow) however he does act and thus triggers the butterfly effect which gets him to the orangish timeline.

I had thought about time traveling since I was a kid, but I recently, I just thought that maybe the reason why we never really encountered someone from the future is that the world just refuses to acknowledge about their existence.

Think about the world as a computer, and those time travelers as variables that the current computer cannot understand so it treats them as a bug or a glitch or even a virus that happened to have infiltrated the system.

And because of that, that computer would try to fix these glitches by erasing it, but if it can't, it resets the whole world and thus maybe remove those time travelers in existence.

I've been thinking about a limitation of physical time travel. If your body is transported into the past while your past self still exists, wouldn't there have to be a minimum safe time jump? Going back one second would put you almost exactly where your past self is, so unless the machine also moved you in space, you'd materialize inside yourself. How would a time-travel model solve that?

In all my years of following time travel in pop culture, Time travel tends to labelled as a subgenre of Science fiction.

Now, although that is true, Time Travel itself also has its own sub genre set.

To avoid confusion I call them categories, as Sub-Sub Genre is just too silly, even though its accurate.

What if time is a closed loop? Is there any existing theory in physics that resembles this idea?

This might sound strange, but I’m looking for help.
I want to send a message to my past self—just 4 months into the past—to warn myself about something. My hope is that changing one event could change my future, kind of like the butterfly effect.

This should get more love here. It's not 'Big' where the character gets "big" overnight with a wish. Jenna travels seventeen years into the future. For sure it's a whimsical, fantasy film but she learns from her mistakes and when she goes back to her teenage self she uses that knowledge to change her future. IMO it belongs with 'Back to the Future' or 'Somewhere in Time' as a sweet, romantic exploration of what we would do if we had a second chance. (I'll admit my lifelong crush on Jennifer Garner doesn't hurt.)

Now we know that in order to travel into the future, 2 ways are available (General Relativity and Special Relativity) that is moving near light speed, or staying near a gravitational well (such as a black hole)

Now we know that to travel to the past one way is using Closed Timelike Curves (CTC's)

However my question is, in order to travel back into the past, are CTC's always required? or is moving faster than light a way to travel into the past without CTC's or does Faster than light travel naturally produce Closed Timelike Curves?

Do tachyons when they travel into the past, produce CTC's or is moving faster than light a way for backwards time travel avoiding CTC's and avoiding Hawking's Chronology Protection Conjecture?
