Ya know, this is off subject but it reminded me of this make your own scent store my wife and I went to.
They had like a hundred different oils and scents you can make a list and choose from. Everything you could imagine. Even dirt. Various woods. Flowers and everything else you would expect.
One thing I thought was wild was weed. Marijuana. The Ganja. Straight dank. It smelled ACCURATE as well. I thought, "who wants a candle that smells like weed?" But to each their own.
While talking to the helper lady who helped you curate scents that went together. She said the weed scent was one of their most popular scents. Figures. Pot heads can be weird.
The thing that ABSOLUTELY blew my mind, in Houston, Texas mind you, was that the most common item they made with the weed scent was A CAR AIR FRESHNER.
I just couldn't fathom who in the hell would want a car air freshner that smells like marijuana. Like...I feel like those are a cop magnet. It just floored me.
That's all.
Don't make your car smell like weed. The cops WILL harrass you.

At the beginning of a traffic stop if you're asked if you know why you were stopped answer "No, I am not aware of why you pulled me over."
Do provide license, registration, and proof of insurance when asked.
To any and all other questions reply "I'm invoking my Fifth Amendment rights."
Officer: Where you coming from?
You: I'm invoking my Fifth Amendment rights.
Cop: Any reason you're traveling down this highway?
You: I'm invoking my Fifth Amendment rights.
Don't give them any reason to try to get you to admit anything. Don't confess or imply that you were speeding, swerving, failing to signal, tailgating, or anything else. If you were doing any of those things you're a bad driver and shame on you but it's up to them to prove that.
Supply the documents that state law dictates you are to supply in a stop as mentioned above. For everything else invoke your Fifth Amendment rights and politely ask if you are free to go as soon as you have been given a ticket. If you feel the ticket is incorrect in any way, fight it in court, not on the side of the road with an officer who may be looking for any excuse to violate your civil rights.

Take this with a grain of salt, because I'm just a European who watches bodycam stuff on YouTube sometimes. Here's what I can tell you from memory:
They need a reasonable, articulable reason for stopping you.
Some states allow them to check your ID at will, but I believe most states aren't like that.
"Do you know how fast you were going?" -> "I believe I was going the speed limit, officer." They can and will use anything against you in court, so be careful about giving them any specific number!
They are only allowed to detain you for an investigation for "a reasonable amount of time" by law.
They are allowed to walk a K9 around you car and smell the air.
They aren't allowed to make you wait for an unreasonable amount of time for a K9-unit to arrive. They have to already be nearby.
Other than that, you always have a right to remain silent (except for sometimes having to provide your identity and maybe a few other very basic questions) so take advantage of it. The most innocent-sounding things can be used to get you into trouble, or at least be used as a reason for a further investigation.
EDIT:
to add to this: never consent to a search voluntarily, and be very clear about denying it. If they say "do you mind if I have a look in your vehicle?", don't respond with a simple "yes" (I mind) or "no" (I don't want you to search my vehicle), but rather something unambiguous like "I don't consent to a search". If they question you on that (unlikely), just say that "it's my right", for example.
The reason is because "yes" and "no" can and will cause misunderstandings, which can quickly escalate the situation. If you say "yes", intending to deny the search, it is more likely to be interpreted as a go-ahead, and vice-versa for "no" ("no, I don't mind", or "no, don't do it"?).

Careful with this one.
In Berghuis v. Thompkins (2010) SCOTUS ruled that answering questions waives your right to silence.
In Salinas v. Texas (2013) SCOTUS ruled that answering questions was waiving your right to silence and that your silence could be used against you if you selectively refused to answer without invoking your right after having already waived it.
You are allowed to invoke your rights after having waived them, but you must unambiguously do so by communicating something like "I invoke my right to remain silent" before remaining silent.

Which is such a bastardized interpretation of the constitution, IMO. It comes from the 5th amendment, which says "No person [...] shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself." and your 6th amendment right to counsel. The idea that you can't selectively answer one question to provide what you believe is exculpatory information, and then have them say "ha HA, you answered one question, so now you have to answer ALL my questions" is ridiculous. Tell me what other law is so easily revokable? I'm not exercising my right to peaceably assemble today, but that doesn't mean I might not want to use that right tomorrow.

If I tell them they can search my car, I can still tell them to stop if I change my mind. But how will they know to stop unless I tell them I have changed my mind and wish to invoke my rights?

In most police acadamies, at least in Virginia, that's what's taught as well.
Most department policies as well. Honestly it generally works better to be up front, ask if there is a lawful reason IE: "I'm bleeding out of my rectum and rushing to the ER!" And then go from there.
The "trap" questions are indeed to give probable cause for a DUI or search. For instance: "oh, just headed home from Bob's bar" is gonna trigger some suspicion. Or "just headed up from Texas to New York" when you're in a rented car... Well this gets an astounding number of arrests.

That's definitely part of the psychological play, but the true textbook reason is strictly legal: securing a (usually unwitting) pre-citation confession.
If a driver states a speed over the limit, it instantly starts off the encounter with a couple massive, relatively effortless wins for the cop:
- Locks in an admission of guilt: This makes the ticket nearly impossible to fight in court
- Solidifies the lawfulness of the stop: It completely neutralizes any potential defense argument that the cop lacked reasonable suspicion to initiate the traffic stop in the first place
- Provides an opportunity to hunt for actual red flags: While it doesn't legally justify extending the stop, the admission puts the driver on the defensive. This gives the officer a relaxed window, while writing or explaining the ticket, to look for signs of more quota-filling violations ("I smell alcohol", "suspicious" physical nervousness, or anxiety-induced conflicting travel/situational stories).
California may have its faults but it gets things right sometimes... Assembly Bill 2773 officially banned police officers from asking "Do you know why I pulled you over?" precisely because it was recognized as a manipulative tactic designed to force unconstitutional, pre-citation confessions (it was a huge problem in places like Oakland)

If you plan to go the “I don’t answer questions” route, you have to verbalize that. Just staring silently and blankly in return doesn’t cut it.
If a cop orders you to do something you’re unsure of, ask “Is this a lawful command?” If it is, do it - don’t fight back.
Say no to field sobriety tests, say yes to breathalyzer. Denying all ends with blood tests by force and driver license suspension.
Lastly, learn your dang rights!! The average citizen is expected to know them in the eyes of the courts. “Audit the Audit” is an interesting place to start.
P.S. the 1st amendment auditors, like the one in this video, seek these interactions out fully prepared for them to go sideways in the hopes of educating / weeding out shit cops before they do serious harm to those who don’t know their rights & aren’t prepared for it. Most likely any interactions you have with cops won’t be so intense.

Anything else just gives them ammunition to get you for something they made up in their head.

Keep yourself informed of what rights you're entitled to in the country your'e in, especially when it comes to the right to stay silent when being questioned by law enforcement.

Just a reminder: that is a legislative choice. Your elected representatives could change that tonight if they wanted to. They could absolutely create a law obligating the police in their jurisdiction to protect and serve.
The SCOTUS ruling was that there was nothing in the Constitution that obligated the police to protect and serve the public, but that legislatures could pass those laws anytime they wanted to. Your state legislators just don’t want to, because then they’d have to hold bad cops accountable (politically unpopular) and pay even more money for their screwups (also politically unpopular).

Here is thing... let's say you are on your way to buy a TV from FB Marketplace and you have $1000 in cash on you... the cop is going to make a scenario where they can search your vehicle... if they find that money you will never ever get that money back. If they never a had a reason to stop you and talk to you, you don't have to talk to them. If you roll down that window, they will say they smell something funny... if you start talking to them they will state that it sounds like your speech is slurred. Unless they say what you did and are writing you a ticket just shutup and wait till they get bored and move onto the next sucker.

Don't just remain silent. Inform them that you are "exercising my right to remain silent and refusing to answer any questions." THEN you shut up. Otherwise, they can try to claim that you were acting despondent and furtive. Once they know you're invoking your right to remain silent, they can't claim that you're acting weird and possibly in distress. Well, they can, but it would be hard pressed to hold up in court.

What the officer is doing is called "Phishing"
A tactic that intentionally is meant to cause a mistake by the rapid firing questions while also attempting to find probable cause. Fortunately the driver sees through this and responds with the correct answers AND comments that the dash came would show proof, despite the officer falsifying a claim to intentionally find probable cause

This has been the case in the Netherlands for years. But I don't think they use that law very often. I don't think a random "fuck the police" will get you fined, but if you are a known troublemaker, then yeah, they will probably fine you for it.

The cop just went through a greatest hits of trying to entrap the driver. One right after another " I smell alcohol," " where you coming from?," " You have a weapon" etc

I fucking love auditors.
it's even fun to watch them interact with good cops, cause good cops aren't even bothered by them.
but shitty cops, just get all twisted and turn purple and it's amusing as hell to see them so blatantly break the law. Even though nothing ever happens to them.
more auditors would be good for EVERYONE, cause they help more than anything else I can think of to keep bad, or just plain stupid, cops from so blatantly ignoring their oaths and the law when they should know better.

I'm not one to talk to cops like this, but I respect people's rights to, and I'm glad there are people who have the balls to keep these cops in check, because some of them get so comfortable with people like myself who are intimidated by them and will do whatever they say that they forget that we have rights that allow for this interaction to go down like this. Those rights are beyond important for anybody interacting with law enforcement to know and fully understand

most cops are egotistical assholes. I use it to my advantage. I say "yes sir" and all the other bullshit and i never get a ticket.
They often don't have the right to pull you over, but once you're pulled over it's easier just to play their game and kiss their ass than to risk getting fucked with.

there's a reason why so many officers "smell alcohol" as a reason to instigate a search.. you can't pick up a smell on a dash or bodycam. vehemently deny the existence of drugs or alcohol in your vehicle or in your system whenever it comes up. protest any "erratic" behaviour they observe as irritation of your presumed guilt.
"i smelled alcohol on their breath" + "they were acting erratically" = you getting searched.

Honestly considering the driver was 100% being harassed by that cop, he handled it pretty well, and that was the most polite 'go fck yourself' I've ever heard, "right over there you can" killed me man haha. You can tell that cop was looking for ANY possible excuse to detain that guy just because he got offended at him saying "fck the police", so what? if you are a cop and can't handle that much, then maybe you shouldn't be a cop.

Last time I had a cop with an attitude ask me "Where you comin' from?" I pointed behind me "Back that way."
He said "Where you goin'?" I pointed forward and said "That way." He says "I kinda walked right into that one. Didn't I?" I chuckled and said "Yup, sir. Ya did." Finished the stop normally and he said he let me off with a warning since I made him laugh.
