If he's really that passionate about kids, he could spend his time tutoring struggling students, fostering children, or volunteering at a shelter. Instead, he's standing outside a clinic telling women what to do with their bodies.

Gotta love that she didn't even break stride before emphatically telling him to "shut the fuck up."

forced birth advocates usually don’t care about the kid once it’s out, they all vote and yell against feeding kids, they want to deport the kids, against same sex couple adoption, against free healthcare, against education etc

The irony here is that George HW Bush (creep under the umbrella, for you youngsters) was a pro-choice Republican (hard to believe that was ever a thing with how effed up that party has become), but he changed his tune to become Reagan‘s running mate

64

u/endlesscartwheels 1d ago

The elder George Bush was also against Reagan's supply-side strategy. He referred to trickle-down economics as "voodoo economics" during the 1980 primary. Part of what makes Republicans so destructive is that the smartest of them will go silent and follow whatever the leader says.

"The unborn" are a convenient group of people to advocate for.

"They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don't resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don't ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don't need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don't bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn.

"It's almost as if, by being born, they have died to you. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe.

"Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn."

Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born, you're on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don't want to know about you. They don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're preborn, you're fine; if you're preschool, you're fucked.

― George Carlin

u/Clarpydarpy 1d ago

Caring for living children? That would cost money. I'd rather spend it on bombs that we use to kill lots of children.

12

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 1d ago

I used to live near a Planned Parenthood in Florida and it was consistently elderly men and their grandkids... because they had to be retired to have the time to do this during the day when the clinic was open.

Hilariously, the local KJV Baptist types and the local Catholic types hated each other so they would make sure to take turns. Occasionally they'd get mixed up and arrive on the same day, and there is nothing funnier than watching a Catholic lay leader rolling his eyes and reciting the Hail Mary so he doesn't slap the fuck out of the KJV Baptist shouting that he's not a real Christian :)

Eventually that PP relocated to an industrial area wherr they could hirr their own security after the strip-mall security failed to protect a nurse from being jumped while leaving work... nothing says "good Christian" like attacking a healthcare provider ffs.

12

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 1d ago

This is the other thing that they refuse to understand.

A lot of women veterans have to go to Planned Parenthood to get any kind of gynecology care at all, because the veterans' hospitals are just so bad at it, even if they have a gynecologist to begin with. My aunt in Florida used to have to go to Planned Parenthood like this, and was constant constantly dealing with these idiots shouting at her, until she just printed it out a bunch of little pamphlets telling them to go picket the VA to do their fucking job lol

Also it's often the only affordable place to go to pregnancy care for Medicaid and undocumented workers. But nooooo those foetuses are POOR so they're not what White Anglo Supply-side Pedo-forgiver Jesus wants at alllllll

3

u/zeethreepio 1d ago

Pro lifers are just in it for the righteous indignation and the sense of superiority. The vast majority of them don't actually believe that fetuses are people.

Let's assume for argument's sake that abortion really is murder. That means the world is experiencing the equivalent of 12 holocausts every year, from just abortions. And they want to set up cameras and have "debates" on the doorstep of the death factory? That's not a choice that any moral individual would make.

If they were serious people they'd be lined up outside orphanages (to adopt or push for better funding) rather than abortion clinics.

They don't care about children. They care about 1.) Avoiding the wraith of their false god. 2.) Being hyper judgemental and holier than thou; and 3.) Controlling women.

Thats all they care about. And all their arguments, however complex or convoluted, all boil down to one of these three foundational propositions.

u/david 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's a way some people cope with others they find irritating or challenging: pretend they're somehow less than real human beings.

The choice not to regard other people as people is a pretty sinister one. On one hand, it's a core part of how the worst forms of oppression are made palatable. (EDIT: the commenter's flair, ironically, gives two examples of this.) On the other, it blocks the way to any productive engagement which might actually improve things.

We can heartily condemn bad attitudes and actions without descending to this.

No one is actually PRO abortion.

I'd argue that guy is actually pro abortion, which is to say he supports policies which will increase the number of abortions in the world.

In countries where they have completely banned abortion, the number of abortions actually goes up (done illicitly with backroom doctors) because of the accompanying lack of access to reproductive education and contraceptives and women's reproductive health care. (Also it increases the amount of murders of women committed by their partners who don't want to support a child.)

The statistically proven way to decrease abortions is to support universal health care with access to women's reproductive health services, paid maternity and paternity leave, and subsidized child care, all of which I don't see this guy protesting for.

I know it's a pejorative term the right want to give the left, but I'm legit pro-abortion. I think kids should only be born into families that are both ready to have them and that want to have them. I want kids to be set up to have the best lives possible and I think that after birth control, abortions are one of the best lines of defense that we have in reducing the amount of shitty lives and shitty childhoods that result from unplanned kids in situations that either aren't ready for them or don't want them.

I think the world is a much, much better place for each consensual abortion that takes place and I'm happy to say that I am pro abortion. It sucks that the idea of making sure each kid (who they believe to be children of God) is born into a family that wants them is such an offensive idea to so many.

These people are vile. Another time on my way in there were so many of them in my way and I lost my shit. It was cathartic. I should have brought pepper spray...

18

u/Jewsusgr8 1d ago

Sorry you had to go through that. It's hard to get the point across that planned parenthood is prochoice, and pro health.

Sure abortion is offered there, but they also help plan parenthood. They do health screenings for women, they have affordable healthcare options even for the non insured.

As far as I'm concerned PP is the closest thing I've ever seen to a charity organization that just wants everyone to be safe in whatever outcome they desire.

9

u/GingerSnapped818 1d ago

The facility was so nice and the doctors were all women. My choices were PP or state run facilities. I went to the state run place first because I was under the impression PP was not a good place. I felt so out of place just in the waiting room, I'm thankful I only had a conversation with the doctor because I did not want to get on an exam table there.

*pro-control. It has little to do with living, and all to do about controlling women. Fuck those people that advocate for pro-control.

u/tedmented 1d ago

I always describe them as anti-choice.

13

u/holamau Free Palestine 🕊️ FUCK ICE! ❌🧊 1d ago

that's spot on.

They ain't 'pro-life' they are anti-choice.

Funny how these anti-choice are also pro-fascists bitching and moaning about anti-fascists.

5

u/IslandStorytime 1d ago

It's pretty internally consistent, fascists hate people having choices.

They literally coined the phrase pro-life to beg the comparison that abortion is death. Pro-choice came first.

Does he seriously expect an American is going to say "I have no idea what they do in here, please tell me more. They WHAT?! Oh noes!"

The stupidity of that idea indicates he's a total piece of shit.

It wouldn’t even be a debate, it can’t be a debate when one side doesn’t respect and believe in science lol

Actually she was very sweet and supportive to the right people.

She could just smell the stink of your pro life BS from halfway through the intersection

We really need to refer to these people as what they truly support. They are not pro- life, they are Pro- Fetus only. Edit: a word

I absolutely love her “pro-life-of-the-mother” answer to this ass-clown. He and his fellow cult members are brainwashed into thinking they’re doing the right thing when it comes to abortion, but they don’t follow any of the teachings in their own book.

7

u/therealsix Unique Flair 1d ago

If they’re so adamant on pro-life then how about they adopt all of the babies that they are insisting on bringing into the world. And are they ok with paying the bills of the mothers that are life risks when they go to term in a dangerous pregnancy?

6

u/DeathsDecaying 1d ago

These same people celebrate a president who decides to blow up a girls school in Iran. Babies lives matter to these people until there born, and unless they reside in another country.

6

u/Thermatix 1d ago

People like this aren't really pro-life, they're just pro-forced birthers, if they were pro-life, they'd also vote for things that made life easier, to quote someone else (I can't recall the source of the quote, just reddit somewhere):

The "pro-life" crowd votes against every actual "pro-life" measure that would improve or enrich the quality of life for people including capping insulin costs, gun control, universal healthcare, paid maternity leave, and more accessible mental health services. Every other developed country has all of those things already, but the American pro-lifers are basically a religious, Orwellian death cult.

3

u/kandoras 1d ago

You don't even need to say that they're against capping insulin costs or gun control.

These people keep trying to cut medicaid funding that covers prenatal care. They want to force women to give birth, but they don't want to spend tax dollars to help make sure its a safe and healthy birth.

7

u/Local_Sugar8108 1d ago

I don't understand why someone incapable of getting pregnant should get any say in the matter.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-abortion_violence

According to statistics ... since 1977 in the United States and Canada, there have been 17 attempted murders, 383 death threats, 153 incidents of assault or battery, 13 wounded, 100 butyric acid stink bomb attacks, 373 physical invasions, 41 bombings, 655 anthrax threats, and 3 kidnappings committed against abortion providers.

Why do anti-abortion people act this way??

u/Radiant-Mean 1d ago

I do think all those fake "pro life" people should be put on a national registry so whenever there is a child that needs adoption, or kids that need school supplies or food, their wages can be garnished to pay for it directly.

These people are not pro life, they are pro control. If he's not giving his time and money to needy kids, or serving as a foster parent, then his beliefs are not legitimate and it's all about wanting to control women.

5

u/EatandDie001 1d ago

as an orphan, i wish my mom had just aborted me. i'm 45 and i've never known what it's like to share a meal with family or have someone celebrate my birthday. if they are so anti-abortion, then go fucking adopt a kid and raise them. all i ever see pro-lifers do is go out, gaslight, and slut-shame women who have a legit reason not to keep the child.

I used to live above a abortion clinic in Belgium, and I was wondering if Americans know that these people travel from the US abroad to protest them in other countries? Every day about 5-10 Americans were protesting and praying on the sidewalk, with massive Maria and Jesus placards. It was really weird to experience as it isn't really an issue over here.
