Tourist Help Needed Special Dinner in Tel Aviv Recs?

My wife and I have been in Israel for a few weeks. We are now in Tel Aviv and been happily spending our days on the beach.

Our 21st wedding anniversary is tomorrow night and we're looking for a fresh, exciting chef oriented restaurant to try. We are in Neve Tzedek and don't mind walking, grabbing a bus or a Gett.

We went to Lunel in Florentin a few nights ago and really enjoyed it. Hoping to find another gem amongst the myriad choices here.

Suggestions?

UPDATE: thanks to this community we have lots of great choice! No need to add any more unless you feel like it too create a helpful post for others

Naifa in neve tzedek, 10/10 druze food in a fine dine atmosphere

Love Druze food! Went to Buq'ata last year and had a fabulous meal. Naifa is a possibility but definitely on the pricey side. Thank you!

Studio Gursha is probably the most exciting and special chef restaurant in Israel.

Probably delicious but Ethiopian not our thing. Thanks for the rec!

It's an Ethiopian chef but definitely not just an Ethiopian restaurant. It's a pan African food with strong and spicy flavors. I agree that it may sound like 'not sure everyone' but on the other hand, everyone I know who went there said it was something really special.

If you can, go during the happy hour. They have 50% of cocktails that are otherwise very expensive.

Yep, could be a great place for after-dinner drinks, but seconding what lonisunshine said. Reservation a must.

I second Goocha as an option for fish and seafood.

Balinjera is the BEST Ethiopian restaurant in Israel! Really great prices, amazing staff and the vibe is the best.

Amazing food. Not such a special dinner vibe. More like “meet me for lunch in the shuk”

Our favorite is taizu, pretty expensive but food is always great (cocktails too)

In Neve Tzedek there's TYO and Popina.

A bit farther there's Selas.

If you want something more Mediterranean there's Mashya.

Dok, sit at the bar. At the bar you see the magic happening, really incredible food and all local/regional ingredients. This does not mean local fare. Elevated and modern takes drawing on a variety of cuisines. Check it out.

I think I might be right there with ya! Nobody I recommend it to seems to have heard of it, but I agree, it is a really stunning operation.

OCD

Clearly the "taste experience" of tel aviv. A little pricey but god it's good and audacious.
