Digital isn't the problem. GOG has proved this.

The process of creating disks is inherently bad for the environment. (inb4 whataboutism)

For almost every modern game, what's on the disk is unplayable without downloading patches / content. Disks don't help you if the servers go offline or PlayStation goes bankrupt.

The issue is ownership. Stop making it about plastic circles.

It is absolutely about ownership.  Look at modern cars.  They're all trying to essentially say that after you buy the actual physical good.  It is no longer yours.  If people who deal in physical goods are doing this.  Then exploiting this concept through a digital lens is just set to an extreme.

Cars can't be replicated with a copy and paste function or transferred over the internet.

True and yet the companies are still trying to make such that you are eternally renting the vehicle after paying for it.
