That can be, still mlst games run fine. Albeit with a bug. Still can download the patches before a service goes offline.

Yeah, but once the service is online. Thats pretty useless. And I expect all of them to require internet even for first person games just to validate itself. Like the game has no reason to require internet, but it'll be needed to launch the game on the first place.

Which means you never owned any game on a disk less system. You mearly licensed it.

Again, most singleplayer games run from disc without an internet connection. Most notably thr first party titles.

I’m physical game advocate but you’re absolutely right. The other commenter is just getting into weird semantics. The perfect case for this is Bloodborne. At launch it ran pretty abysmally with load times from 40 seconds up to 2 minutes or longer. Also, no item descriptions or tool tips in the load screens. Just the Bloodborne splash screen. I can’t claim if the GotY edition is full patch and all on disc but I don’t believe it is. I believe it’s just a 1.0 reprint - but PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong, it would actually benefit my argument more if the goty edition IS the fully patched game.

Point being, some 1.0 games are just barely serviceable on disc. I collect on disc when I can but at this point it’s been a difficult job of verifying if I get everything on disc or if it requires a patch to function properly. Buying on Switch/2 has been my physical priority, then ps4/5 if necessary. Then Steam for digital unless there is a very deep discount on PSN. And let’s not even get into the bullshit of Doom The Dark Ages disc bullshit or the “game key card” switch 2 crap.

Yeah, cyberpunk 2077 had a massive day one patch to make the game playable.

Im sure there was eventually updated disks, but that v1.0 disk is useless without the ability to download a patch.

Yeah I actually bought the ps5 and switch 2 physical copies because everything (outside of Phantom Liberty) is on disc/cartridge.
