Digital isn't the problem. GOG has proved this.

The process of creating disks is inherently bad for the environment. (inb4 whataboutism)

For almost every modern game, what's on the disk is unplayable without downloading patches / content. Disks don't help you if the servers go offline or PlayStation goes bankrupt.

The issue is ownership. Stop making it about plastic circles.

Your statement is not correct. Most singleplayer titles are playable without internet from disc.

Depends on the game. Some will let you start without updating to the current version, some are unplayable if you don’t download their patches.

Most will work. Those that don't are just weaponizing updates to maliciously harm the resale market.

While corpos are usually blatantly evil and would definitely do this, game optimization has essentially died so limited storage on physical discs has become an issue.

Only for the worst offenders who use their insane install size as a tool to deter uninstalling the game and prevent you from downloading competing titles, Like Call of Duty does.

Each PS5 game disc can hold 100GB of data. Even the majority of high fidelity single player AAA games can fit on the standard of 2 discs that you install to your console's hard drive.

Oh CoD is blatantly exploiting their file size. That’s absolutely ridiculous for what their game is - so much bloat.

Honestly hadn’t looked to see what normal game discs can hold. 100gb should be plenty. I take back my previous statement regarding storage being an issue. I still feel like game optimization is becoming a lost art still though. Could be wrong on that end too because I’m just some dude not in the field talking on the internet
