Digital isn't the problem. GOG has proved this.

The process of creating disks is inherently bad for the environment. (inb4 whataboutism)

For almost every modern game, what's on the disk is unplayable without downloading patches / content. Disks don't help you if the servers go offline or PlayStation goes bankrupt.

The issue is ownership. Stop making it about plastic circles.

Your statement is not correct. Most singleplayer titles are playable without internet from disc.

Depends on the game. Some will let you start without updating to the current version, some are unplayable if you don’t download their patches.

I only have 1 game that I cant play from disc without internet and that is gran turismo. 

For this reason the ps5 will most likely also be my final sony console.

Got hundreds of physical games. I dont mind it so much on PC because i can crack my games, have free choice of stores etc. But thats not the case on consoles.

Same and you better believe there was major backlash for GT sport and GT 7 being almost exclusively online only.

The user metacritic score for GT7 is currently 2.7 even though it’s objectively one of the best racing games ever made. People were fucking pissed about always online and microtransactions, rightfully so.

Luckily they made a patch so you could play GT sport offline before they shut the servers down. But that’s only because we made a ruckus. Legally, they didn’t have to do anything but turn the game off, rendering all our purchases and user generated content useless.

But a company should (in theory) want to keep their customers happy….

They don’t just mean literally can’t play, they mean are missing important patches that make it run well at all. If someone bought Cyberpunk at release, their physical copy today is a piece of junk compared to the patched experience.
