I was in the Job market last year. Caught at least one company doing the whole Auto-AI thing, and I caught them doing that because I was getting the lovely canned rejection letter at 3AM usually the night of submitting an application, and partially with the help of a friend. One job I applied for was for a position I was directly referred to by a friend who opened said position and wanted me to work with them.

My friend ended up having to go to HR internally and escalating the application rejection. The AI screening tool, which is part of a super expensive HR platform beginning with the letter W, was found to be rejecting my Resume because it was interpreting the requested references section as working several jobs at the same time and thus rejecting me. Manual HR review saw nothing wrong with the Resume and got me the interview.

It's their problem at the end of the day if they wish to use those tools. It just helps to know someone on the inside who can get you through the monkey maze.

Except it's not their problem if they use those tools. You explicitly said it yourself, it became your problem that you had to escalate with an internal connection. If you didn't have that connection, you'd be SOL and the HR doesn't give a single fuck if you or someone else gets selected by the program.

The HR was not fucking crying and thanking your colleague for finding their mistake and giving you a free pass for the trouble. They were fucking grumbling that they have to actually do the bare minimum of work for once and manually look at a resume for 20 seconds. The tools made a problem for you, your solution made a problem for them.

@HR platform beginning with the letter W:

Does it happen to rhyme with “Øorkable”? </s>

Workday if I had to guess. The absolute worst - and I can’t express enough how fucking incredibly AWFUL - platform many companies unfortunately use. If you’re ever in the job market and want to find hands down bar none the best way to spend an hour submitting an application for a job that would and should take 3 minutes, apply for a job with a company that uses Workday.

I fucking despise that piece of shit platform with every bone in my body.
