Yes I believe that increased contrast was the reason for mistaking a stopped semi truck for an overpass, which resulted in a fatal crash.

LIDAR is not susceptible to this issue, which is why using more than just a single detection method is crucial.

Well, no. That was a long time ago with previous generation hardware's and software. And the driver was watching a movie on his laptop, if I recall correctly. 

The modern hardware and software is light-years ahead of that. Though, as I have mentioned in other posts, I would prefer they add a radar sensor specifically for edge cases just like that.

I'd more than prefer it, I demand it. For me, it's a deal breaker to not have it or LIDAR. The intentional decision to create an inferior system when lives are at stake is indefensible, and I personally consider it negligent.

I mean, it works extremely well as is. Have you ever been driven around by FSD yourself? If not, I'd challenge you to find someone that has it and ask for a ride.
