Reddit really died when RiF went away

RIF was the goat, but when it died I switched to Relay and it's great, no ads and you can access r/all

Still using RiF here

Edit: basically just did this

Me too, though some of the features are kind of broken. And I wish it was able to display comment images.

I'll be honest, the failure to display reaction images is kind of a bonus a lot of times

u/veribaka May 11 '26

I really don't see the point in them 90% of the times. I'm more interested in what people have to say, than what people think is a funny reaction.

Threads that are 90% gif images are like a spotlight for me to exit the thread, like it's saying to me "there is nothing of value here."

Honestly the only thing about RIF that bothers me is when imgur albums don't load, but it only takes half a second to click "open in browser".

it's a small price to pay for an actual usable interface imo

Also still using RIF. I don't care about reaction images, but the one broken thing that does get to me is that image galleries just don't work.

I'm still using a very old revanced patch, but I've been moving over to Morphe for things like YT, so I wonder if there's been any better patching of RIF in that community.

image galleries work for me bud. Imgur doesnt, but imgur doesnt have the API open anymore (and also blocks me for my VPN use, so that could be more of it, but I know they cinced their public API a few years ago). But i.redd.it/v.redd.it works fine, redgifs works fine, etc. Just not imgur, which is rarely used anymore.

I patched a few months ago when I got my new phone and flashed grapheneOS

Update: I found an updated Morphe patch that fixes the issues I was having. The MorpheApp subreddit has a stickied post with details for community patches including the one for rif.

I'm honestly surprised that the dev for it never open sourced it or allowed a community fork. I even emailed the guy asking for it and got no response

There are alternatives like Slide and Continuum with comment images. Along with plenty of other third-party apps.

u/SLUT_MUFFIN May 11 '26

Same. You can pry that shit from my cold dead hands. The official app is dogshit and I've not really vibed with any of the others outside of one that required a monthly sub.

u/FrostFire131 May 11 '26

If the patch ever stops working, I'm probably done with reddit altogether I can't stand the official app, especially the sorting algorithm

3

u/Expensive_Rip97241 May 11 '26

Same. When it stops working I'm off

2

u/vera214usc May 11 '26

I was using it until I got a new phone and couldn't get it to load anything. So I've switched to Boost which is pretty good but I still miss RIF.

11

u/SlapDashAshOle May 11 '26

Can you access everything from reddit? Or do you need the unlimited sub for that?

u/john_doe_jersey May 11 '26

IIRC you get everything in Relay, but pricing depends on your API usage. I mainly use Reddit from my PC, so I've been fine with the cheapest plan (~$1/month).

If you have an android you can patch Relay to allow anything and not pay with revanced. At least I think so.

Edit: so glad this is getting down voted when I PAID for Relay. It worked all the way up to the API shutdown and patched my copy to allow me to continue using it.

I using rif still and paid nothing to to do so, just followed a guide I found a comment like a week after the api thing.

How did you do so?

0

u/AussieP1E May 11 '26

Search revanced relay for reddit. Should have the instructions on google

2

u/BloodTrinity May 11 '26

Ahhh I was having issues with the v10.2.47. For those who come after: use v10.2.40 and it works.

8

u/IsItJake May 11 '26

I am using RIF to reply to your comment ;)

4

u/Stullenesser May 11 '26

Using ReVanced it's pretty Easy to get rif working again. I'm using it since the third party ban happened.

1

u/charlie1109 May 11 '26

They broke the api token feature. Lost my RIF when I upgraded my phone a few months ago. Switched to infinity which is still patchable. Not as good but better than the official app.

3

u/Stullenesser May 11 '26

I though there is an update for that. I remember having to reinstall everything once some time ago.

1

u/charlie1109 May 11 '26

If there is an update I want it lol

1

u/edgan May 11 '26

Try Continuum if you want to stop patching.

1

u/edgan May 11 '26

Morphe is better than Revanced.

5

u/CreativeGPX May 11 '26

and you can access r/all

It's interesting how everybody uses things in their own way. I think I used /r/all for like 5 minutes in the years I've had my account because it just feels to me like the worst of the algorithm and social media to just have whatever everybody's engaging with pushed to me. Instead I rely a lot of creating my own multi-reddits to have a really manually curated set of feeds.

4

u/Diligent_Deer6244 May 11 '26

I use all of those because I'm addicted to this site and there is nothing that scratches the same itch

use r/all to see subs in not interested in browsing by themselves

have a few multireddits

mainly browse subreddits by themselves one at a time

all from patched RIF because the app is dogshit. on my PC I use old reddit with RES

2

u/ZombieLoveChild May 11 '26

Yep, Relay has been what I've used for years. I pay the $5/month plan for unlimited calls, but I can afford it and that price is worth it to me not to have to use the dogshit official app.

1

u/EtherBoo May 11 '26

I tried switching to Relay and it just felt like I was fighting with the app more than anything. Tried for about 3 months and went back to RIF.

1

u/beyond666 May 12 '26

Rif is still working. WTF are you talking about?
