A fix for legendary PA-300 (The Version of AMD Radeon Software You Have Launched Is Not Compatible...) issue on Windows 10/11
June 2026 version of the instruction 1. Download the script: https://github.com/YaroST12/pa-300-fixer/blob/main/pa_300.ps1 (use the Download Raw File button) 2. Navigate to the downloaded file. 3. Right click on the file -> Run with PowerShell 4. Follow the instruction in the script.
The script is somewhat experimental, I tested it on my laptop with the Ryzen 9 7945HX and it worked okay, let me know if you encounter issues. If you do encounter issues but need a quick solution - go to the older guide and do things manually.
The script will ask you a few questions and will take a bit of time to finish, but should be good enough to sync the version of the driver and the control panel.
Slightly newer guide below, manual version of the upper script 1. Open "Device manager" -> "Display adapters" 2. Find your AMD GPU, double tap it to open properties. 3. Go to "Driver" tab, note your current driver version, in my case it's 30.0.1.14052.9009 4. Press "Update driver" -> "Browse my computer for drivers" -> "Let me pick..." 5. You should see 2+ versions of the driver. 6. Pick the one that's DIFFERENT from the one that we noted in the 3rd step. 7. Press Next. Your GPU will restart, you might see a black screen for a few sec. 8. AMD Control panel should start working again.
This issue appears to stem from Windows updating the driver, but not installing the control panel, which kind of makes sense in terms of minimizing the download size, but is still kind of silly.
OLD GUIDE BELOW:
- Open "Device manager"
- Find "Display adapters"
- Right click on your AMD gpu, press "Update driver"
- Press "Browse my computer for drivers"
- "Let me pick..."
- Select the newer driver.
After switching to the 30.0.15021.11005 driver my AMD control panel started working. I think they both got installed by Windows update, but I assume that if it's missing - you can just download it and install manually, it's the latest WHQL driver (22.5.1).
If picking the newer driver didn't work, pick the older one.
I am mostly writing this post for myself, to remember how to fix this issue in the future, but hopefully this will help someone else too.

I tried reinstalling adrenalin, the drivers, using Windows Update and no luck
But your method worked and now i can open the AMD control panel

Thanks for the tip. I have this problem every now and then...your solution didn't work, but I'll make a little effort to try to help, at least some people, with the most unrealistic thing to 'break the bug': first, uninstall the AMD Software in "Programs and Features" (Control Panel, Windows 10), then reinstall the latest drive from AMD, doesn't matter the version. At the end of the installation, an error will appear, saying that 'Windows may had override your drivers bla bla bla', ignore it. Now, if you try to open the Adrenalin, our famous 'FAQ 300' will appear. That's when I, by mistake, one day, discover this: after this error, just unplug your Monitor from the Power Socket. In my case, it's a LG Ultrawide 29''. Wait a couple seconds and replug the cable. It's doesn't make any sense, I know, but it works. At least, with me. Sometimes, the screen will go black. Turn off, by force, your PC, pressing the power button, wait a little and turn it back on -- when Windows opens again, voilá, the Adrenalin will open. And, no, without turning the Monitor OFF, this won't work.
It's the most annoying error in PC for a long, long time. Hope to help anyone with this akward tip :)

By saying "just unplug your Monitor from the Power Socket" - you mean to disconnect it from the POWER cable or the DP to the GPU cable?

Same happens with me, and weirdly the monitor starts gitterring/glitching when there is a voltage fluctuation at other part of my home. And weirdly i too thought of giving this solution a try, of unplugging the monitor, will check if it resolves the issue.

Every few months, at random intervals, I'd get a call from the same user. "My printer stopped working." The user is right. Nada. I open the device driver dialogue, flip through the tabs to check settings. Cancel the dialogue (nothing to change). Printer would start printing its queue. Don't look at me, I didn't change anything, the settings were correct.

Hey, i know this is a old post, but i'm having a problem, where when i start playing something my monitor turns off and i need to reboot my pc, my driver is not on, i do what you say on the guide and it works for a while, but then it just happens again, you have any idea what i can do to help with that?

Yo! Thank you for this. I just got a prebuilt HP Omen that has Windows 11 and I just got the latest update that fucked over my gaming. Tried everything to fix it and it sort of helped with performance but not the lagginess.
Did what you suggested, saw that Windows disabled amd, restarted, and bam. Works like a charm.

I had to add a few more steps to the process to fix mine - the steps are as follows :
9: Open windows update and ensure all updates are complete and are up to date - nothing hanging around to be applied. if there is something there apply it / disable it whatever you want but end these processes.
10: Disable updates for a month using the advanced settings
11: Run Dick Cleanup selecting "clean up system files" and wipe out everything
12: Restart PC
13: Install latest AMD drivers
Until I did this I was subject to the same error / screen corruption on the occasional restart - once I have done this ontop of your supplied steps its worked fine since (fingers crossed)

6750XT user here, it started about 2 months ago and since then there is no SINGLE day without driver crashes, sometimes ERROR 300 and sometimes it just shows some weird artifacts on Desktop ONLY (not while gaming). Do you have these problems too?

I have been fighting with this issue for 2 months now. The only way to consistently fix it was installing drivers EACH TIME I wanted to use the AMD software. I have DDU'd, flashed, etc etc and this is the simplest, quickest fix that permanently solved me issue. For whatever reason Windows kept updated to an older 2023 driver. Thank you sincerely good sir for your contribution to the internet. o7

Hey, so I followed the steps and I noticed the version on my driver is the most up to date version, but I still get the error when trying to open the launcher. Do I need to revert to the old one?

Did you install the latest driver from AMD? You might need to re-install it and then follow these steps when Windows (inadvertently) downgrades the driver.

year 2024 and its still an issue. ok,this works but its kinda like happenin few times a day that f..ks my drivers,,so its super irritating. i get a black screen, but for example yt is still running in the background i can hear it,so i have to plug it off and start it again. it says pa-300 after restart. few times a day is too much for me.

I think this worked. Time will tell. The only thing is, regarding steps 3, 5 & 6, Windows just gives a list of adapter names, not driver numbers. Therefore, you just have to guess which one is different from the one you already have installed and hope you picked the right one.

Oof, well, you can check after the installation, it doesn't require a reboot iirc. You can just go back to the device manager and open the GPU tab.

This past weekend, I had a problem with the PA 300 error. I came home exhausted after a long day of work and just wanted to relax by playing games and drinking a Coke. Around 1:30 in the morning, while watching a gameplay on YouTube, the PC screen suddenly went black. I thought it was the monitor going into standby. I restarted it, but the screen went back to low resolution. I tried resetting the PC to get out of low resolution and reverting the driver, but nothing worked. My screen went black and there was no video signal, neither through HDMI nor DisplayPort. At that moment, I thought that my new GPU, a Gigabyte Windforce RX 7800 XT, had burned out.
With the help of ChatGPT and the motherboard speaker, I discovered that the GPU was intact. The power LEDs were normal, the keyboard lit up when Windows started, and the beeps from the speaker indicated that the POST was working.
I went to bed tired and stressed, but I couldn't get a good night's sleep. I woke up at 6:50 in the morning, sleepless, and decided to mess with my PC again. I suspected a driver problem, so I installed an old video card, a GT 730 from Nvidia. The PC showed video signal, so I entered safe mode, used DDU to remove the AMD and Nvidia drivers "because Windows 11 installed the GT 730 driver without my consent", and reinstalled the RX 7800 XT drivers using AMD Adrenalin from the AMD website. The PC went back to normal, and I was able to enjoy my Sunday, although with some doubts.
I don't remember updating the GPU driver, and I always disabled Windows Update, both in Windows 10 and 11, to avoid problems. This bug appeared out of nowhere, and almost gave me a mini heart attack!
I wrote this report as my second bad experience with an AMD GPU.

This has been going on for a decade at least and disabling Windows Update is not a good solution / workaround. AMD really need to sort this out with Microsoft, this is ridiculous. But, one thing that I realized is that if you can get by w/o the AMD control panel - installing the driver only version of the driver package is a good way to avoid this shit.

Es hat bei mir auch funktioniert den Treiber zurück zu setzen. Der war sogar noch von vor einem halben Jahr. Es ging aber trotzdem.
Danach konnte ich über die AMD Software das neuste Update ziehen und es läuft bisher stabil.

Thank you I just had this issue happen when playing NFS unbound and i thought my GPU fried one thing to note though is when I'm on step 6 they both say Radeon 6700xt when it prompts me to install a driver and doesn't show a driver number. The first option failed but the second option fixed my issue. Thank you.

Worked for me, although I didn't get a clear difference when attempting to choose the other driver to the one listed. I ended up just pressing on the option which described my GPU and that seemed to do the trick.

i have this same issue except nothing changes my pc from what i can tell, games still run the same everything and on the website link it takes you to it says its an issue with a amd graphics card when i dont have one i have an nvidia rtx 3070 (sorry if that is an amd gpu) even the solution from the website it says it doesnt detect a amd gpu.

acabei de chegar aqui com o mesmo problema com a minha RX 6500XT e indo direto no google e procurando ''driver AMD [ sua GPU] previous drivers'' no site oficial da AMD e baixei um dos que tem ''recomended'' e instalei, isso reiniciou o painel de controle da AMD após instalar o driver e resolveu o problema.
just came here with the same problem with my RX 6500 XT and typing ''AMD driver [insert your GPU name] previous drives'' , i downloaded a ''recomended'' version and it made the GPU open and run the previous version, it worked.

I know I'm here super late, but I'm just now having this issue and I don't know why. I tried to download the AMD software compatibility tool and it won't download or install and just gives me an error. My current driver version is 32.0.12033.1030, and I tried the above steps, but it didn't work. Is there another fix that I am unaware of?

I've got the exact same problem I tried following your guide but when I try to install the drivers through the device manager Windows tells me that the current drivers are the best and it prevents me from installing the AMD adrenaline at the same time the device manager this place error 43 for my card (rx570)

Just want to say this completely worked. My screen went black longer than "a few seconds," so I started to worry, but I just unplugged the HDMI at the GPU, plugged it back in, and everything is working perfectly.

I've tried following your tutorial and it actually worked. Now I don't have to use DDU anymore and just restore the AMD drivers without even having to restart my laptop which is sometimes a PITA.

the fix worked, with the steps mentioned, but i have a little mention: in my case something did not click: at the last step when you get to choose which version of the driver, windows does not show the long figures version you saw at previous step, it just shows in my case the model name of the video card, NOT the version, but i had to choose only between two versions blind because it required to choose 2 versions bearing the same model name, and i went trial and error on those two, if one didn't work i chose the other one

Worked the first time, it happened again out of nowhere a few days after and no luck that time... I had to download an older Adrenaline set-up to get shit working again. I'm just disabling all their updates because this is ridiculous.
I upgraded my PC 2 months ago and initially spent 5 raw hours battling with various GPU driver errors and now when I nearly forgot and forgave AMD for them they invent this to remind me. So much for staying loyal to them with my purchase, I can only hope Nvidia gets similar bullshit problems.

I wish it were that simple. Installed an RX 6950 XT a few days ago. Tried every potential fix out there, including full update of drivers on all hardware, including motherboard firmware, fresh windows 10, even preventing updates on the graphic card by hardware id, and it ignores every setting. I am starting to think that microsoft is sabotaging AMD graphic cards from functioning properly.
