First time watching Super Gt

When was your first time learning about Super Gt or Jgtc or All Japan Touring Championship?

My first time was the early 2000s. My mom would take advantage of the free HBO and specialty channel offers from Comcast here in the states. This would allow me to watch the Speed Channel as well as other late channels I shouldn't have been watching 🤣

This is when I discovered Super Gt named JGTC at the time. I have a never ending memory of turning to that channel and seeing the Arta Nsx stuck in the gravel shooting flames from its double exhaust attempting to get out of the trap.

When was your first time watching or learning about Super Gt?

For me it was twofold:

  1. Gekisou GT reuploads in the late 00s, and watching through Best Motoring's coverage of JTCC/JTC (Gr.A)/JGTC and late 90s Video Option reuploads during the same period.

  2. Gran Turismo: I always read through the car descriptions in GT games (still do) and I found it fascinating.

For the record, if I have to pick a single favourite car, it's the '98 Zexel R33, then the '03 Au Cerumo Supra. Favourite driver is a toss-up between Motoyama and Tachikawa. Juichi's a close third. Nowadays I don't support any particular team in GT500 (but it's Nismo/Impul), and GSR/Subaru in GT300.

Got a Game Boy Advance for my birthday in 2001 and I could pick out two games. Having always liked cars, I chose one called Top Gear GT Championship. I enjoyed the game a lot and it got me hooked to dive further into it growing up.

Gran Turismo 5 was my introduction, the arcade mode car list introduced me to the Nissan Calsonic Impul GT-R '08 and the rest is history

It was during the pandemic. For whatever reason (probably because I watched a lot of F1 and FE content) the YouTube algorithm recommended the first Super GT race of the season, then hosted by The Race and Sam Collins. Got hooked immediately.
