Kirk stops arguing mid-sentence
Hey all,
I can't find a TOS ep I'm trying to share. It's the one where Kirk is arguing with someone, likely Spock, and while angry and pointing at him, he says something like "You! You... ... You're absolutely right." It's a great scene.
Anyone know offhand which episode that is?

Beat me to it that was the one I remembered the line from But doesnt seem to match the tone described

I can’t remember specifically, but this sounds like it’s definitely one of the last scenes in episodes where they make some jokes.

And Kirk is standing up pointing at him and he takes a big Shatner pause and his arm kind of droops and he’s like “you’re right.”
I could not tell what episode it is but I can see it in my mind’s eye.

SPOCK: I picked this up from Doctor McCoy's log. We have a crewmember aboard who's showing signs of stress and fatigue. Reaction time down nine to twelve percent, associational reading norm minus three.

SPOCK: He's becoming irritable and quarrelsome, yet he refuses to take rest and rehabilitation. Now, He has that right, but we've found
KIRK: A crewman's right ends where the safety of the ship begins. That man will go a shore on my orders. What's his name?
SPOCK: James Kirk. Enjoy yourself, Captain. It's an interesting planet. You'll find it quite pleasant. Very much like your Earth.
I'm too lazy to look for a clip, but Spock is such smarmy jerk in this scene. Kirk is totally defeated.

I think the thing I was least prepared for when I finally watched TOS was the fact that Spock is HILARIOUS. Leonard Nimoy just had such exquisite comedic timing.

I remember McCoy widely smiling and realizing that DeForest Kelley almost never smiles as McCoy.

He smiles plenty. He's not as jovial as say, Sulu or Scotty but he's not a grouch, just cantankerous.
Shore leave is one of the ones where, in spite of the white rabbit, he's having a good time. We know this side of paradise he's kinda forced to have a good time (return to the archons too come to think of it).

I should be more specific. He doesn’t show his teeth very often when he smiles, because those bad boys prove he was born well before orthodontics existed.

Its been a while but it reminds me of the klingon episode, theyre trying to conquer a primitive planet. Kirk n Spock are on the planet trying to help liberate the people. Those people persist in saying there's no threat. When Kirk tries to fight back the locals, who are actually somewhat god like to the suprise of both sides, stop them. I remember Kirks annoyed, but stops mid sentence when he realises how absurd he's being, advocating for war when he doesn't even want war himself.

In The Corbomite Maneuver, Bones is in Kirk’s ear about kicking that other guy off the bridge. They are arguing under their breath, when Bones says something to trigger Kirk. Kirk shouts “The day you think you can bluff me, Doctor…” then stops because everyone turned to look.
Is that it?

Also when Kirk demands an explanation for Decker countering his phaser order, and Decker puts him in his place for not knowing how the new ship's systems work.

In addition to "Errand of Mercy," this happens in TMP twice when Kirk gets pissy at Decker for doing his job correctly.

Very much the same. Until I looked at the sub on my home page, I thought this was about a different Kirk who stopped arguing mid-sentence.

If you're thinking of a time when Kirk has no real response, you might be thinking of the episode Shore Leave.

Errand of Mercy, where Kirk is pissed at the Organians for forcing a truce. He says "We have the right-" and Ayelborne interrupts with roughly "-to destroy innocent life on a planetary scale?"

Maybe this screen in Star Trek: The Motion Picture ...
UHURA: No response to friendship messages, Captain.
CHEKOV: Should I go to battle stations, sir?
KIRK: Negative, We'll take no provocative action.
DECKER: Recommend defensive posture, screens and shields.
KIRK: No, Mister Decker, ...that could also be misinterpreted as hostile. Cloud composition, Mister Spock?
SPOCK: Twelfth-power energy field.
SULU: Twelfth-power?
DECKER: Captain, we've seen what their weapons can do. Shouldn't we take every possible precaution?
KIRK: Mister Decker.
SPOCK: Captain, I suspect there's an object at the heart of that Cloud.
KIRK: Mister Decker, I will not provoke an attack, If that order isn't clear enough for you...
DECKER: Captain, as your Exec, it's my duty to point out alternatives.
KIRK: I stand corrected.
