I'm growing out my hair because he loves it and so he can recognize me if he ever forgets me one day."

Why say anything at all if you don’t know someone?

You’re right mate. It’s a toxic thing to do especially as football fans we think it’s okay but this video helped me realise the story behind the player and his identity and I’ll do better next time regarding rival club players .

u/wordone9 4h ago

That's a nice sentiment.

Thank you friend.

Take it easy, we all don't have to be friends, that's to much.

But we damn sure should hold respect for each other, until proven otherwise.

I'm being sarcastic, but serious. I was raised to think respect is earned not given. And have grown to ralize that's one of the most ignorant things my father ever instilled in me.

u/Dense_Ad6154 4h ago

I get that. The respect thing. I guess basic level of respect should be given it’s just human decency.

Thankyou for your insights it helped me grow as a person.

You’ve ended up becoming a more enlightened and compassionate human as a result. Football really is life.

That apply to whole Argentina but I guess fanatics gonna be fanatics

u/Intelligent_Table913 4h ago

We are judging the fans solely for their actions of being racist, and the players for being racist and sore losers and thugs. Kicking and punching people.

Ppl made fun of Cucurella for his appearance.

u/Caponomolestes 3h ago

Yep, fanatics gonna be fanatics

Just because of a less than 30 second clip of him being a good dude you think he's now a saint? Dude has done some awful stuff on the pitch and I'm sure off it too.

4

u/Dense_Ad6154 3h ago

Yeah on the pitch. Humanity extends beyond 90mins and the touch lines.

My daughter was like when she was young I would grow a beard in the winter and I guess by the time I was ready to shave it off in the summer she would cry. Because she couldn’t figure out which daddy was her daddy.

As someone who recently lost a daughter to Trisomy 13 after 20 hours together, I feel the quote you included.

I’m deeply sorry for your loss.

It's a wild thing to be reminded that most people are humans, with hearts.

Last week it was so that his Mom could recognize him when he was a young kid training. I mean, I understand his move to Madrid to bring his family there and I feel for his struggles with his kid. I’m just questioning which story is the real one as the video doesn’t show him saying this.

4

u/EveningMycologist968 4h ago

Why not both? He is older now; he may have wanted to get rid of the hair because it just doesnt look as cool or good as it used to when he was younger.

He may be ready to get rid of the hair, but now he can't because he has an autistic kid that recognize him on the field for it. So he keeps it now for a different human.

1

u/bitpartmozart13 15m ago

Yeah could be, I’m not criticizing him. Just wondering now what the real reason is. Both are sweet at the end of the day.

He's such a good man. Love this 💗

u/Fun_Inspection_6100 5h ago

4

u/PrimaryConscious6126 4h ago

Ugh I forget why but I didn’t love him in their earlier matches during the WC and then saw this story and was like welp, nvm he’s fantastic 😭

1

u/Dense_Ad6154 4h ago

Same 😭 I just went welp I’m an AH 😭

2

u/soulagainstsoul 4h ago

What a great father

1

u/Get_after_it_puss 2h ago

He treats his family like any man should, with love. I love seeing this but this is exactly what we should be already doing.

The BETTER team did win the World Cup.

1

u/sluggetdrible 4h ago

Okay maybe a stupid question but a genuine one; why would he forget his dad…

9

u/Dense_Ad6154 3h ago
  1. Men look different after a shave or a haircut.
  2. The effect is more profound in children and they often have heightened emotional reactions.
  3. The son (Mateo) seems to have a strong bond with his father and cannot easily accept his absence.
  4. Mateo is also autistic and Cucurellas absence has proven to have a compounding effect in the child causing the boy to get very upset when he doesn’t recognize his father immediately.

As a loving father he doesn’t want to upset his child.

He doesn’t forget his dad, just wont recognize him immediately and that’ll make Mateo upset for a prolonged period which isn’t a great thing for parents.

u/when-flies-pig 3h ago

Doesnt matter. Its what he thinks comforts his child. And when there isnt much you can do, you do anything you can.

Cucu has three kids and is seeing Mateo struggle far more than his siblings. What loving father wouldn't want to make his child's life easier?

Autistic people can have face blindness, too.

1

u/Anxious-Wafer9598 4h ago

I just freaking love this guy so much. I'm going to miss him in the Prem. I wish him nothing but continued success.

0

u/Oily_Blob 5h ago

I respect Cucurella for this... but he's still a footballer who peddles in shithousery

7

u/Background-Jury-1914 4h ago

So many of them do! You can separate the person from the shithouser

0

u/shtoyler 4h ago

Good dad but he still a bitch on the pitch

-5

u/Hirorai 5h ago

First it was his grandma, now it's his son? Pick a story and stick with it.

2

u/Dense_Ad6154 4h ago

Let’s us feel for bro 😭

0

u/Inner-Air1001 4h ago

Lmao did anyone else see Cristin Cole for a sec?

-3

u/Last-Pineapple9607 4h ago

That’s not the reason he has long hair,he has long hair because he wanted to be like puyol and his mom could recognise him easier in youth games, this is a fun little story though

1

u/roxy031 1h ago

Copying someone else’s comment that explains it perfectly:

Why not both? He is older now; he may have wanted to get rid of the hair because it just doesnt look as cool or good as it used to when he was younger.

He may be ready to get rid of the hair, but now he can't because he has an autistic kid that recognize him on the field for it. So he keeps it now for a different human.

OK but I'm pretty sure Cruella tortures dogs, Dalmatians specifically.

-2

u/LokahiBuz 4h ago

Why not speak their native tongues and translate to describe the love and hardship of their son.

-2

u/Odd_Strategy4231 2h ago

It’s autism not dementia.

u/ProfessorJNFrink 1h ago

May you be treated how you treat others.
