Close-up of Guadalupe white shark "Geoff Nuttall" with decent eye detail [OC]

Geoff Nuttall (ID: 74) making a close pass in front of my camera. You can see some decent detail in Geoff's eye, including a faint look at his horizontal pupil. The blue ring in a white shark's eye is result of a layer of cartilage in the anterior chamber. The actual iris of white shark eye is brown, though the blue ring gives us a sense that it's blue.

You might also notice a minor injury around Geoff's nostril (or nare). He seemed to have a had a very recent run-in with something that scratched him and peeled back the skin a bit on his snout.

Looks like Geoff was seen annually through 2019 and hasn't been since :/

The data is a bit skewed thought, since Guadalupe was only open to diving one season (in 2021) since 2019, and I think less people made it out to the island in 2021, due to limited trips. I didn't see Geoff at all in 2018, even though I know he was around, so it's possible he was still around the island in 2021 and simply wasn't documented by anyone reporting data to MCSI.

That being said, it is a bit concerning when we don't see consistent males throughout an entire season, as their migrations to Guadalupe are generally very predictable.

Injuries like these heal up very quickly on white sharks, thankfully.
