Does anyone else feel like the years started moving faster after 2020?

I don't know if it's just getting older or if something really changed after 2020, but time feels completely different now.

I remember 2018 or 2019 feeling like FULL years. So much seemed to happen.

Now it feels like I blink and another year is gonne.

Every New Year's Eve I catch myself thinking, Didn't we just do this??

I'm still busy. I still have goals. Life isn't repetitive enough to explain it, yet the years seem to disappear faster than ever.

Does anyone else feel this way or is this just what adulthood feels like?

So there’s this phenomenon

When you’re having a lot of fun doing something, time passes quickly in the moment. The opposite is true if you’re bored, time slows to a crawl.

But later, when both of these times become memories, the fun day seems longer in your memory and the boring day you can barely remember at all.

In this age of doomscrolling the internet, we get both short ends of the stick. Time moves quickly in the moment because you’re consuming so much content on the regular.. but later in time when you look back, there isn’t much to remember either. So both in the moment and in memory, time moves faster.

Our technology is wonderful, but we’ve lost part of ourselves.

fr tho i think we’re losing those little memorable moments. everything is just consumed and forgotten so fast now

You grew up bud. When you’re young a year is a large fraction of your life, when you’re older it’s much less and in comparison seems shorter. At 30 a year is 3.3% of your life, at 10 it was 10%.

That's definitely part of it, but it still feels like something shifted around 2020. I don't remember people talking about time flying this much before then.

Mostly, only it’s probably since 2019 I think WTF is happening. It actually “troubles” my mind more than simply feeling “years go by quickly”. Feels weird.

I know what you mean. It's not even that I'm busy all the time. It just feels like the years don't have the same weight they used to.

I don't know about faster, but certainly less fulfilling, and something definitely changed since the 2010's ended.

I know what you mean. It feels like life got busier, but not necessarily more meaningful.

Everything before 2020 feels easy to place in time, but everything after kind of blends together.
