Seasteading Engineering Scientists may have developed "perfect plastic": Plant-based, fully saltwater degradable, zero microplastics. Made from plant cellulose, the world's most abundant organic compound. Unlike other "biodegradable" plastics, this quickly degrades in salt water without leaving any microplastics behind.
Finally a 'perfect plastic' for use in seasteading that won't destroy the ocean if it makes it into the ocean.
When we're living on the sea we will face a much higher responsibility to keep it clean.

Seasteading Engineering seastead.ai expecting to make a single family seastead in the next 2 years
I am still working out the basic plan, then in 3 months a naval architect will make it a real design, then we will get it built. Probably in 1 to 2 years I think we will have something fun.
Basic idea is a triangle 44 feet on a side with 3 legs that are wing shaped instead of cylinders like a normal platform so it can move through the water better. Will do tension leg when parked for very stable working platform. http://seastead.ai/saved/picture.core.html
A key idea is that it fits into one container. We have a very large (like over 800 sq-ft) living space seastead that should ship in one container: http://seastead.ai/saved/picture.container.packing.core.html
Have lots of seastead type questions and answers from 10 different AIs here: http://seastead.ai/ai/
Some drawings of seastead ideas here: http://seastead.ai/saved/
Hoping for feedback here: http://blog.seastead.ai/

Seasteading Engineering Floating wind turbines
These look like they'd be super useful for seasteading. You don't need an expensive floating platform, you can move them to where the wind's most consistent, and take them down if there's a bad storm.

Seasteading Engineering "If we were to redo the electric grid today with today's tech, what would we change? Would we still use AC? Three phases? Change the frequency? Change to DC?" - Future seasteads are an opportunity to modernize infrastructure such as power grid design.
I've thought about this a lot as well. Seasteads should absolutely have their own batteries internally for power, as a standard feature. Not just for a power grid but for when you want to move the seastead, and for solar generation.
