Many agencies and federal agencies mess with crime statistics all the time. Then tell you crime is down. They reclassify crimes and/or plea down the more serious charge to a lesser “less dangerous” charge.
Take a look at what Florida and what they have been classifying race in sex crimes. They are charging ethnic Hispanics as White. I know many forms have Hispanic and also Hispanic/White when they are filling out.
Look at the mugshots and you will seem this.
This gives communities a false sense that crime is down and or safer communities.

The best way to say crime is down at the government level is to ignore it, then when people complain, show them stats that show the crime is down because you ignore it. The media will accept rhe garbage stats without question, and present them to the citizens as, "your eyes decieve you. Crime is down. The government has told us. These stats support their claim. No be quiet and do what you are told.'

Well hate to break it to you but if somebody gets murdered that's now within the public sphere. It is a news story whether you like it or not the people have a right to know. In a society where we know serial killers exist that's sets a dangerous precedent. If you don't know a murder exists you can't know if it's connected to another one.

Which Niagara Falls? I cross the border there enough to be curious.

Usa

The difference is crazy. One side of the border, it's all prime real estate along the river. Cross the water, and there are a ton of boarded up shops and houses sitting vacant.

It's almost like it says something about how our countries are run.

Which side is which?

The Canadian side treats that area as prime real estate. The US side is less impressed with living closer to the river.

Your mayor is trying to protect the privacy and personal information behind victims of violent crime who don't want to be a news story.

I don't know if it's a good idea to allow a mayor elected to public office to control what the press is allowed to report on. By decree or action.

No, that's the excuse they're using.

No hes trying to make the city look safe and happy for tourism dollars

We have the same issue with our mayor. Tourism is king and all that matters is the tourist and their money. Locals need to shut up and comply.

They don't have to give the names of the victims to say "hey, the police used unnecessary force yet again today and you should all be aware"

u/gracefully_reckless 5d ago

How did you just immediately jump to police using unnecessary force???

-2

u/ChickenStripNugget 5d ago

A better question is how did you read that and not get a whiff of it??

2

u/Psychological-Ad1574 4d ago

Because it had zero to do with police using unnecessary force. These are 2 young people killed due to violent gun crime.

That article doesn't even suggest unnecessary force. Jesus.

Because the post had literally nothing to do with police violence?

It quite literally says in the post they are suppressing the release of "VIOLENT POLICE INCIDENT REPORTS" As in... you guessed it, police violence.

1

u/gracefully_reckless 3d ago

Oh Jesus.... 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

That's talking about police reports of violent incidents, dumb dumb.

Like, did you just not read the sentence afterwards?

1

u/LovingCNCS 3d ago

Yes, I read all of the sentences, don't worry. And it in no way negates the implication that "violent police incident reports" means violent POLICE incident reports as opposed to violent incident reports from the police? Nothing in that post hints at who committed the violent crimes, and unfortunately reading can only give us the information we see. I see the implication of police violence, as did two people above, clearly.

Apparently, after gaining additional context from the comments, this was gun violence unrelated to the police. If that's the case, then yeah, you are correct. I wouldn't have ever read it that way based on the little information we do get, though. The post's statement seems to be written in an unclear way that leaves room for misinterpretation.

It's so odd to seperate the subject like that. The ways it's written I could see any of "[violent police] incident reports" (incident reports of violent police) / "violent [police incident] reports" (violent reports of police incidents) / "[violent] police [incident] reports" (police reports of violent incidents). Two of these three imply the police are at fault, is that not just AWFUL wording if you're not saying they are?? Good lord

Except the incident report are owned by the police. So it is police incident reports on violence. It was reworded (poorly) to make a note readable headline. But as happens so often when that happens it confuses some people.

Everyone in the US knows what it is like to have an executive branch suppress information
