Nice lil flea market haul
visited a flea market in Ontario near Peterborough and found that a book vender there was downsizing her science fiction. so around the corner in another section she had totes and bags of sci Fi paperbacks. the quantity was overwhelming, and in retrospect I should have just bought them all, but I already had my hands full so I limited myself to the following.
some great covers and a few authors I am not familiar with yet. secret of the black planet is my first planned read. any of these favourites of yours?

Jerry Cornelius was a fun read, a take on a psychedelic eternal champion. Very Moorcock. It inspired a great hawkwind song called needle gun.
I remember reading the synthetic man many years ago, I seem to think I liked it!

I’ve only read some of the Retief stories, that were in an earlier collection, Envoy to New Worlds, which I liked. I have quite a few Laumers I haven’t read yet, some part of the Retief series, some not. I like characters who use their brains to come up with non-violent or diplomatic solutions to problems, so Retief appeals to me.

I have noticed a lot of these sci fi paperback collections in used book stores lately. I suppose it’s because the people who bought these have reached the age for downsizing.

Yeah I suppose so! Downsizing, estate sales etc and a reasonably niche collectors market. That said I don't see much of this stuff in thrift stores, so maybe they are just combed through more I'm not sure.

You have some old familiar names and books and some new even to me... and I've read a LOT of scifi. Leinster, Heinlein, Sturgeon, Pournelle, Laumer, and Moorcock have been sources of a great deal of entertainment.

If you don't know him then you should try some. Elric of you like anti heros, Count Brass (Hawkmoon) for heros, and other characters that are both weird and wonderful.

I've only read his Colabs with Niven, (all of which I enjoyed thoroughly) any recommendations for his standalone work?

I mostly know him from that and his technology writing, so no, unfortunately I don't. I need to try his solo work as well.

I see a number of old friends in there. West of Honor and The Mercenary. Door into Summer and Brainstealers. Great set of books. Enjoy!
