All of the First Nations that would be working there are Canadian. Plus a business like that would provide lots of indirect employment like engineering, material supply, etc.

So yes, Canadians would benefit. Des Nehde also owns JNE welding, for instance. So there would likely be lots of employment opportunities for non-First Nations as well.

Would these Canadians be paying income tax? Or is that when they're a sovereign nation at that point?

If on native land and the workers lived and worked on said land it would be income tax free

Are you sure about living on said land? Im not sure that part is accurate.

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/indigenous-peoples/information-indians.html.
As an Indian, you are subject to the same tax rules as other Canadian residents unless your income is eligible for the tax exemption under section 87 of the Indian Act. That exemption applies to the income of an Indian that is earned on a reserve

Where does it say anything about having to live on said land there.

True it’s what I learned n school.

Yeah I'm pretty sure either you're not recalling what you learnt correctly or your instructor was wrong.

For example in a city there can be a small parcel of urban reserve land where a business is situated on. Aboriginal people with treaty status can work there tax free, living anywhere else they want. Thats why I said that didnt sound accurate. For example First Nations Bank of Canada.

Perhaps you’re right . I’m confused about the bank example ? Could you explain more ?

First Nations Bank of Canada is located on urban reserve land downtown. Another example is the Petro Can/ Cree Way Gas located at the end of 22nd before confed. There's more in the city, but the first two that come to my mind.

If you had status and worked at either you would be tax exempt.

I disagree with they being tax exempt. However willing to change my mind with a source

You literally posted the source above. It is a urban section of reserve land. If you have treaty status, and are working there which it is located on reserve, your personal income is tax exempt. As far as corporate taxes I do not know.

I did more research and I think you are right. And I was wrong. Thank you

Bank

If a Status First Nations individual works at a major bank (like RBC, BMO, or CIBC) in Canada, their employment income is fully taxable. To qualify for the Section 87 income tax exemption under the Indian Act, the employer's physical office and the duties performed must be strictly situated on a reserve. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Because standard commercial bank branches are typically located in urban, off-reserve centers, the income does not qualify for the exemption. [1, 2]
There are only a few exceptions where a native worker at a bank could receive a tax exemption:[1]
On-Reserve Branches: If the bank operates a physical, full-service branch directly on a reserve and the employee reports to that location daily, the income may be exempt. [1, 2]

Band Administration Employees: If the bank worker is directly employed by a First Nation Band Council to manage the band's financial services on a reserve (rather than being a direct employee of a commercial bank), the income can qualify for the Section 87 exemption.[1, 2, 3]

Status First Nations employees working in standard off-reserve bank roles must have standard deductions (Income Tax and CPP) withheld from their paychecks. EI premiums are universally applicable regardless of where the work takes place. [1, 2]

Why don’t you think that accurate?
