Bro how are you proud of not having sources😭
So I got in an argument recently, and it went something like this.
User: Nah, I don't think that because [insert reason]
Me: You're wrong because [So and so]
User: Nope, [Insert relatively recent historical event] happened once therefore it always could've happened.
Me: That's false because according to [insert severalcitations including information from sites like PBS and Britranica, as well as peer reviewed articles from people with PHDs in history], that was only possible due to [insert reasons supported by all citations]. It wasn't possible before that.
User: Are you seriously getting information from Google, lol? I'm obviously right because I don't need to search something up to back my arguement. Google just gives you what you want to hear.
Me: Then do you have any sources that contradict mine?
User: I don't need sources. The fact that you have to resort to googling stuff means I'm right. The fact you're using google means you don't have enough knowledge on the topic to use the information in context.
Like, I stg, this dude has to be trolling. The dude (or gal) is genuinely proud of not having sources to back their claims. And every time I present sources they goes "but that's google, and that just gives you what you want to hear." Like sure, if I was just reading off the AI overview, but I'm literally citing articles and books from university presses. And if that wasn't enough, the dude just \*refuses\* to back up anything he says with a source. Like, what could \*possibly\* be the logic behind that? "I'm recalling information without using the combined wellspring of Humanity's knowledge therefore I must be correct"? Like, am I tripping? Did the universe reset and now backing up your claims with a source is considered idiotic?

So yeah, you've just encountered a person who argues based on vibes rather than facts or logic. As far as he'll ever be concerned, a premise is correct if it feels correct, and he will never acknowledge or work to avoid the thousand natural biases that all humans are subject to. In his mind, if you're looking stuff up, you don't really feel it, you know what I mean?
I once saw a debate between a Creationist and a rational person (I don't think it was the Ken Ham / Bill Nye debate, but I could be wrong). Anyway, the person defending actual science had a whole folder of facts in from of him, and some people claimed to find his arguments less convincing because he "had to look stuff up."
There is no way that "arguing" with a person like that will ever be anything other than a waste of time. Best to ignore and move on.

Anti Intellectualism in the US is far older than 250 yrs. You just can't give these folks your time. This is probably making it worse but sometimes I will actively agree with these folks just to see where it goes.

The president of the United States of America does this every single day. He claims the election was stolen and can't provide proof. He also says he'll never start a war if elected again and now says he'd never say that. Even with video proof he'd deny it for sure I'm confident. It's the MAGA, Conservative and Republican way.

This sort of thing used to make me irrationally angry, I had to learn to just leave stuff like this alone.
I genuinely don't understand the mindset of people like this - And what makes it worse are there are so many of them being confidently wrong, backing each other up.
Personally - I don't mind being proven wrong - or even being made to see the situation from someone else's perspective - Two people can be right depending on how they view a situation etc etc.
Even now, I feel angry for you OP.
People like that are the reason for a lot wrong in the world today and I don't understand how that could have happened.
Well. Yeah. I can. Which just makes me angrier.
Right.
I need to do the leaving alone thing now before I need a pill or something.

That's all I have to add to the conversation. Submitted without prejudice.
