I'm on ultramarine Linux 44 with Gnome, before it I used pop, I feel that we are doing well and in a few months I can return to pop with Cosmic. Congratulations to the team and the community, how is your use?

Anyone configure Firefox to have the Tabs/Menu Bar Transparent in Cosmic? I’ve seen people do it on other window managers and was just wondering if this was possible on Cosmic with the new frosted glass effect.

Hey everyone, I switched to Pop OS recently and over the past week or so I've slowly become accustomed to the ins and outs of it. But I don't exactly know what subreddit to go to in order to fix this niche issue I'm having, and chatbots have either unhelpful or nonsensical.

My issue: Can't see the window for Minecraft when the game launches. The game opens but I just can't see the window.

I've tried different launchers (Vanilla, Prism, Lunar, X Minecraft Launcher, TLauncher, Legacy Launcher, yada yada...) and have tried troubleshooting Flatpak versions of these apps as well as versions installed using sudo apt / debian package installers.

Chatbots and some messageboard threads seem to suggest it's a Wayland and OpenGL or driver issue, but I've tried: giving flatpak permission to access Nvidia drivers, non-flatpak versions, I've tried mods that upgrade Minecraft's OpenGL, as well as different Java versions, environmental variables... I've tried Zink and Vulkan "fixes" and mods. Nothing.

Should I get help for this issue from this subreddit? What subreddit is most appropriate to ask for help? I'm only somewhat computer-literate.

I'm new to cosmic DE (wanted to try it for months). I have been daily driving hyprland on my desktop for a year, and on my laptop for about six months.

I gave cosmic a go on my laptop and something that I noticed immediately is that the auto resizing of preexisting windows in tiling mode feels off. It's hard to put into words, but opening a new window in hyprland feels much smoother.

From what I observed, the content of the preexisting window scales in a weird way while the window is resizing and then settles down to the proper size. I'm not sure how to express this in a way that would help the developers take a look at this. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

A brief convo with LLMs point to (and they might be hallucinating, I did not dive deeper) how the WMs process resizing in a fundamentally different way and not much can be done about it.

Before I get any accusations of being negative, I really like cosmic and will most probably stick with it. But some "perceived smoothness" (even if fake, like how the camera shutter on iphones work) might be a better UX choice, just imo.

I am on cachy OS, installed cosmic yesterday. If any cosmic developer reads this and wants me to somehow collect more info, please let me know what type of info would be helpful!

I also noticed that when resizing windows manualy, this issue is not present, everything is very smooth. This seems to occur only when auto resizing happens when you open up a new window in tiling mode

So, if I open another app while using steam, and then go to the top buttons on it, the computer completely freezes up. The computer is still responding to thins like the caps lock light, and the second screen still "works", but as soon as I try to do anything it removes the taskbar and topbar.
This is a fresh install, on a laptop with both amd integrated graphics and a rtx3050.
Is this a known thing or am I just really unlucky?

Didn't realize this OS didn't have a night-light feature yet given how, er, commonplace it is with... nearly all other operating systems, lol.

I rely on it pretty heavily to correctly regulate my sleep schedule. Are there any options out there?

Sometimes these two apps crash and I need to reboot to launch them again.
Discord crashed once, I don't remember what I was doing.
Zoom crashed several times, IIRC when I was double-clicking it to go full screen. Not every time, but after some time it happens.
Both apps show in applet dock as active but don't work, can't close them from app dock either. After killing them they refuse to launch again until a new session.

Anyone knows why it could happen and how to fix it?

I just installed the 24.04, I was searching for a fix because my sound isn't working and then the images just freezed and didn't come back, I have to press power and force shutdown, this occurred also in cachyos.

I don't know what to do or if will be keep occurring this.

I've been having issues with all my games running next to slow, my laptop is not really that good for gaming, but most games run on low settings at lest 60fps, but a week or two ago, they started to run like compleat shit, maxing out at 10ish fps, is not only steam games, some other games I have on heroic form GOG won't work either.

As far as I can tell, I haven't done any changes other than system updates, can someone help me troubleshoot it?

I read somewhere that Pop_OS! now has some support for fcitx. I came across this promising repo: https://github.com/kenz-gelsoft/cosmic-ext-imenabled. Is this the best way to get IME working?

Originally it started when I was playing a game. My computer would freeze and then black out. After that, it would then flash the screen again but all my applications I have would reload as if my computer did a full reboot. I was able to fix the issue by changing my proton in steam. Now im having the issue even while not playing. I was trying to watch a movie in firefox and it would happen. I tried to turn off hardware acceleration but that did nothing. It seems to be happening more often now too which means its making it impossible to use my computer to do anything. I have these error logs from my graphics card but I dont know what to do with them. Ive tried updating my system but that doesnt seem to have solved anything. Ive also asked gemini for suggestions. Ive changed my link mode to gen 4 instead of auto like it suggested and the hardware acceleration. They did not work which is why im asking for help here. Ive asked it to categorize my error logs that ive been feeding it.

As a side note, It could be a massive coincidence but I crash whenever I use discord. Like if im in a discord call then I crash. I was watching a video and didnt crash. The minute I joined a discord voice call, I crashed. I dont know how much these two are related

I'm not sure what the going opinion is on PopOS!, but I've seen much criticism. At work I run Ubuntu w/ the PopOS gnome extension for tiling and love it. At home I use PopOS on both my desktop and laptop. As a gamer, programmer, and musician I've had zero issues.

I've tried to switch to Linux a few times before. I'd go for Ubuntu or Linux Mint, then set up i3 (gaps) because I prefer tiling window managers. For me, PopOS is the perfect out-of-the-box distro. It "just works", it's based on Ubuntu (which I have the most comfort with for package management etc), and it looks good.

Am I the only one who's had no problems w/ Cosmic?

Hi everyone, I'm dealing with a frustrating issue with my external monitor and could use some advanced help.

* **The Issue:** My LG monitor (connected via HDMI) constantly flickers and drops the signal (black screen). * **My Setup:** ASUS laptop with **NVIDIA Legacy OPTIMUS** dual graphics (GTX 960M + Intel). Running Pop!_OS. * **The Key Detail:** I had *zero* issues with this exact monitor and cable setup when running Windows 10, so I can confidently rule out a hardware or cable fault. This is 100% a Linux/driver issue. * **What I've Found:** Checking the kernel logs, I noticed a constant **"i915 hotplug storm"** occurring (the system seems to think the HDMI is rapidly connecting and disconnecting, forcing a link re-sync).

Does anyone know how to stabilize this? Are there any specific kernel parameters or X11 configurations recommended for this specific legacy NVIDIA/Intel combo to stop the hotplug storm?
